BEFORE: Selena Gomez might be the best bantamweight not to hold a lineal title but she's ready to make another run coming off back-to-back wins over elite contenders Ana de Armas and Elizabeth Olsen. However Kyra Santoro intends to rise up the ladder and use Gomez as the perfect platform to secure her own shot at the divisional straps - something that she's never sniffed in six years of FCBA duty: "Yeah, let's forget how many chances Selena wasted lately. She can't win the BIG fights... like never! They should trade her to Front Street or something! Meanwhile here I am working my butt off and guess what, zero frickin' title bouts! That's a travesty like I ever saw one! Once I smash Selena into a pulp even Lili Reinhart will know my name!" (winks).
Selena Gomez wears a crimson red bikini set & black gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a curled ponytail. Kyra Santoro wears a yellow bikini set & red gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a braid. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1:
Some quick slugging from Kyra who really believes she can make a huge statement tonight and she simply bashes hard leather into the fellow brunette's body before lacing her on the breasts for a good measure. Selena didn't really expect this high-octane start from the VIX fighter and struggles to adjust to the tempo which only allows Santoro to extend her advantage through more effective striking. Selena gets bumped onto the ropes while leaking more hooks upstairs before a left/right combo on each temple slumps her into a shocking earmuff cover. Ugh! Kyra has all the space to pile on with the heat and she almost shoves Gomez through the ropes as she enjoys a monster opening round that even leaves the VIX entourage stunned!
Round 2:
Kyra on the charge... she stacks up more quick body blows as Selena is slow to react and come out of her funk. She's almost fortunate enough not to suffer some kind of physical damage here before she finally displays supreme footwork to leave the younger brunette hanging in mid-distance come the second minute. However Kyra keeps the pressure up and bounces the reeling Gomez around the ring to add to the artistic impression value; she clobbers the Latina woman onto the ropes and forces a slugging back & forth that finally allows Selena to land some meaningful shots but overall it's another Santoro clinic as she tears a small gash under Gomez's left eye at the bell and sends coach Eva Mendes into furious reaction during the intrerval. Make that 20-18 VIX!
Round 3:
Selena has to find a way to stop the rout and she tackles Santoro to the body early in the third. Kyra claims she can take all the hits around the area... until she can't! One harpoon drills the liver area just too close for comfort and sends the California girl reeling into mid-distance. Ugh! Selena catches a lucky break and tees off upstairs landing a vicious double on each temple to bend Santoro to the side. The VIX fans want immediate reaction and Kyra bites on the high-upside chance to trigger another back & forth dust-up however this time she ends up with a bloody gash under the right eye as Selena outworks her in the process and lands some superior shots to leave head trainer Steve Boyd fuming at the bell.
Round 4:
Selena seeks more facial damage and Kyra just refuses to back off on that title challenge promise so she accepts the slugging invite and keeps floating around the singer's head hoping to smoke her with a genuine haymaker. Easier said than done and things only get worse when Selena adds another cut under the left eye to maintain the superior display in the middle of another back & forth tussle. This is no longer the creampuff Gomey of old to say the very least (or least Bazz fans forget) and Kyra suddenly finds the jabbing pace too hot to handle once she realizes she's leaking more fluids on top of yielding the real estate. Selena bashes her butt-in-ropes in style and cranks up some hits to the stomach to leave Santoro gasping for air in visible discomfort at the bell.
Round 5:
Kyra is somehow lethargic to get up in the fifth and gets picked off straight away to the point Selena glues her to the spot in the center of the ring and rings her bell in more ways than one. Uh-oh Hardly a swing in response from Santoro and more blood is spilled here before a gut-checking double folds the VIX brunette into outright spasms. A quick uppercut on the jaw does the rest sending SANTORO DOWN FOR THE COUNT amid some wild roar from the audience. Kyra claims she's doing just fine as she battles back to her feet at seven but then bursts into spasms when more blood starts to leak from her nose and there's no time for a rebound here on the packed PPV card. The fight is waved off! TKO5 Selena Gomez!!!
AFTER: There's no chance Selena enters the bantamweight title picture anytime soon but she admits she removed Kyra Santoro from it instead: "That's a favor for Cassandra Lynn more than Lili. I still feel like some girls owe me something so let's don't count those chickens yet! I'll never be satisfied with the Dan Marino comps. Well, not until I'm Eva Mendes' age!" (laughs).
Grim hollow in the VIX corner. Kyra won the first two rounds with room to spare but fumbled away a golden opportunity to emerge as top title contender. One can only wonder when she'll come so close to that elusive championship fight again?
