Lily James vs Blake Lively

(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Lightweight Title

Lily James (Champion)
(33, 5’7, 15-0 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)

Blake Lively
(35, 5’9, 40-41 FCBA, Fates Boxing)

Pre-Fight: League of Mighty Women’s newly crowned champion Lily James will be making her first title defense against Fates Boxing’s former one-time champion Blake Lively. Lily made an impressive start to her FCBA career and she is still undefeated, so she will be looking to keep it that way to hold on to her title. Blake found her form back since she joined Fates, so she will be looking to stop Lily and take both the “undefeated” title and the actual Lightweight Title away from her.

As the challenger, Blake addresses the audience first at the pre-fight press conference. “I told you all that I’m back and this is only the beginning. I’ll regain the title that I deserve. For that matter, I’ll take everything from this bytch. Taylor (Swift) was right to call her a nobody. She knocked her down, but then this British bytch got lucky. I’ll finish what Taylor started!” Blake is not holding back her words for her opponent before the title fight.

Lily maintains her composure to some extent as she takes her turn to address the press. “Many of my opponents called me a nobody on my way to the top, but I’m sitting here as the champion and I won’t let Blake take my title away. Don’t get me wrong, I think she is an elite fighter even if her fight-record doesn’t look like it. It is her behavior since she joined forces with Taylor that I don’t appreciate. I will shut her up just like I did to Taylor!” Lily’s words anger Blake, so she stands up and tries to get to her opponent, calling out “You bytch!” The champ is not backing down either, so she stands up and holds her ground, staring down the challenger. However, the organizers and staff of both stables react fast to separate the two and take them backstage from different sides to put an end to the tense press conference.

It is fight night and Blake enters the arena first with her coach, Ana Beatriz Barros, accompanying her. She waves to the crowd cheering loudly for her as she makes her way down the aisle. Once she enters the ring, Blake shifts her focus to the fight as her expression turns serious while shadow boxing.

She is wearing a pink sports bra and matching trunks with white gloves and boots. Her hair is tied into a ponytail.

Lily comes out next with the title belt around her waist and her coach, Ali Landry, following her close behind. She pumps her fists and blows kisses to the crowd cheering for her. Lily's expression also changes as she enters the ring and locks eyes with Blake. Ali tells her fighter to relax and focus on the game plan.

She is wearing a black sports bra with a gold trim, matching trunks, gloves and boots. Her hair is also tied into a ponytail.

The atmosphere gets tenser as both fighters meet at the center to receive final instructions from the referee. Lily offers a touch of gloves, but only gets an intense stare in return from Blake. They step back to their respective corners and everything is ready for 10 rounds of lightweight action for the title!

Fight: Round 1: It is not instant fireworks, but still both fighters are on the attack and willing to engage early on. Blake tries to utilize her reach advantage with a few jabs and one-two combinations while staying out of Lily’s reach. It is not easy to stay out of the champ’s reach though, because Lily for her part utilizes her speed advantage as she moves in and out for short engagements. Once she gets inside, Lily quickly lands a few blows to the body and a hook to the jaw and then gets out before Blake can retaliate. The challenger is having trouble keeping pace with the champion in this opening round.

Lily keeps her feet moving, rotating and cutting angles to move around Blake’s guard and land clean punches. Nothing big lands, but the numbers keep adding up in favor of Lily. Blake does land a few punches from range, but she is clearly lagging behind as she is struggling to match Lily’s pace and intensity so far. As the bell rings, Lily walks to her corner with a smile on her face knowing that she made a positive start in her first title defense as she was the clear winner of that round.

Round 2: Blake realizes that she needs to up her intensity and she decides to make that happen by being more assertive with her attacks. She shows that early in the second round as she lands a double jab-straight combo while Lily tries to step in. Instead of trying to match Lily’s pace step for step, Blake decides to do it only when Lily is stepping in. She is finding more success this way, but there are still times that Lily is just too fast for the challenger as she steps in, lands a couple of shovel hooks to the body and then steps out before Blake can land anything in return. However, there are also occasions in which Blake stops Lily’s advances with a stiff straight followed by a short combination. It makes for a much closer round in terms of points, but it is Blake coming out on top this time to even things up on the scorecards.

Round 3: Blake seems to have regained her confidence after the second round as she looks more fluid with her movement at the beginning of the third. Lily doesn’t look concerned though as she sticks with her own game plan of circling her opponent, moving in and out for quick exchanges. Lily keeps focusing on her opponent’s body as scores with a lead uppercut to the midsection and a hook to the ribs. Blake answers soon after with a one-two combo up top.

As we go past the midway point of the round, Lily rotates to her left as she tries to find a way inside, but she instead walks right into a punch as Blake times her swing perfectly and connects with a hook to Lily’s chin. The champ wobbles and goes down! Blake stands over her knocked down opponent as she mocks her “Is this all you got, bytch?!” The referee tells Blake to go over to the neutral corner and starts the count. 1…2…3… Lily lies on her back with a shocked look on her face 4…5… she sits up and shakes her head 6…7…8… the champ gets back to her feet and shows the referee that she can continue, so the action restarts!

Blake puts more pressure on the champion in the final minute of the round as she blasts her guard with combinations, but only a few of them land clearly. Lily survives the round, but it was a scary turn of events for the champion and the challenger is in control of the fight now. During the break, Ali tells her fighter that the knockdown was an important reminder for Lily to respect Blake’s power and instructs her to focus on her defense and counters for a while.

Round 4: Blake goes right back to attacking as she wants to press on with her advantage. She has a smile on her face as she is clearly happy with how things turned out in the previous round. Lily, on the other hand, looks a bit concerned as she is still in the recovery mode, so she switches to a defensive approach. Blake continues to throw combinations, but she is having trouble finding openings as Lily’s defense holds up. Lily starts to fire back with jabs to the face and shovel hooks to the body as she finds some counterattack opportunities. The champion slowly claws her way back into the fight as she blocks Blake’s attacks and lands counters one at a time. Blake throws significantly more punches in this round, but Lily ends up having a slight lead in punches that actually landed and narrowly winning the round.

Round 5: Seeing that it worked in the previous round, Lily sticks with her defensive style, letting Blake take the initiative once again. It keeps working for the champion early in the round as she continues to punish Blake’s unfruitful attacks with counterpunches, which starts to frustrate the American actress. However, later in the round it becomes clear that a frustrated Blake is a dangerous Blake. As she struggles with finding openings, she decides to create her own. When Lily gets in close to land a hook to the ribs, Blake bumps her with her shoulder to create some space and lands a lead uppercut followed by a straight right that gives the Brit a bloodied nose. Late in the round, Blake uses a forearm push this time to create another opening and land a double jab-straight combo. Lily returns fire with a one-two combination of her own. They continue to stand and trade as the round winds down with each fighter landing a few more punches. Then Blake lands a late punch just after the bell rings, which starts an argument between the two and they start shoving each other. The referee ends up having to get in between them and order them off to their respective corners. This fight is getting nasty and it seems to be working in Blake’s favor as she goes on top once again on the scorecards.

Round 6: Both fighters want to trade leather after the tense ending in the previous round. They meet at the center of the ring and start a lengthy exchange. Blake lands a jab-hook combination, while Lily scores with a couple of hooks to the ribs. The next few punches are well defended on both sides, but then the American slips a straight through the Brit’s guard, who answers right back with a lead uppercut. They continue to stand and trade with similar success in clean shots landed, but a strong uppercut to the midsection by Lily finally forces Blake to clinch. They continue to hit each other with body shots in the clinch, while pushing each other around, so the referee ends up having to separate them again.

Neither fighter is sticking to their game plan anymore as they continue to trade punches, clinch, get separated and then repeat the cycle again. What started as a tactical battle of two different styles has turned into a brawl. The impact of Lily’s body shots are getting clearer as red marks on Blake’s skin show up, especially over her ribs. Both fighters look exhausted as they walk over to their corners after the bell rings. It was a close round, but Lily takes it to even things up once again.

Round 7: A slow start to the seventh round as both fighters are still catching their breath after six hard-fought rounds. They are slowly circling around and throwing a few jabs, not necessarily aimed to land, but more for keeping their opponent away. When they engage later on, they look sluggish as most of their punches either miss or get blocked. A clean punch lands once in a while, but there is more clinching than actual boxing in this round. As a result, there isn’t much for the judges to decide who wins the round, so it goes down as a draw. They will have some more time to recover during the break, so hopefully there will be more action in the next round.

Round 8: Another slow start by Blake and it looks like she is struggling with more than just exhaustion as all those body shots she received have taken their toll. As for the champ, she seems to have recovered enough to up her workrate once more and go back on the attack. Blake tries to use defensive jabs to keep Lily away, but they are too lazy to be effective, so Lily dodges them easily and steps inside to land a couple of hooks to the ribs. Blake winces with each impact and starts backing away. The champ is in pursuit and she changes levels to go up top with a hook to the jaw. Blake cannot react in time to block the punch as her movement is getting very sluggish. She goes for a clinch, but Lily pushes her away and lands an uppercut to the American’s abs. Another hook to the chin and the challenger wobbles, but she is able to clinch with the champ this time to get a breather.

Lily keeps control of the action after they get separated, but she is not attacking relentlessly to manage her stamina. Blake fires off single punches and some of them lands, but she is not generating as much power as she used to in earlier rounds. Lily cuts the angles and catches Blake with a one-two combination that drives the challenger back to a corner. The Brit launches a barrage of body shots and while Blake is able to block most of them, the ones that slip her guard do damage. However, the bell rings and the challenger survives this round and keeps her hopes alive. Lily does win the round though, so she is now in control of both the action in the ring and the lead on the scorecards.

Round 9: The penultimate round of this championship fight starts as Lily takes the initiative to engage with her opponent. She throws two hooks to the body, but Blake is able to defend them. However, she cannot defend the next one that targets her chin. Lily tries to finish her off with another swing that targets the chin, but Blake avoids this one on pure instinct and then backs away before getting in more trouble.

Lily increases the pressure as she switches between attacking the body and the head. Blake tries to fight back with occasional wild swings, but the champ either avoids them totally or partially blocks them. Just around the two-minute mark, Lily ducks under one of those swings and lands a big hook to the ribs. Blake winces and lowers her guard to protect her body, but Lily is quick to switch levels and land another hook, this time to the chin. Blake is wobbly as she takes two steps back, but Lily follows with a one-two combination that lands square on Blake’s face and she goes down! Lily isn’t celebrating just yet as she walks over to the neutral corner while the referee begins the count. 1…2…3… Blake lies on her back as she blinks her eyes to clear her vision 4…5… she rolls over and gets on all fours 6…7…8… she gets up on her feet and while she may not look in great shape, she shows the referee that she is still able to continue. The action restarts and Lily puts more pressure on the challenger right away. A double jab-straight combo forces Blake to the ropes. She raises her guard up to protect her face, but Lily targets the ribs with hooks, relentlessly. Blake’s guard drops and Lily switches targets. Blake is swaying left and right with each blow to the head and she is not offering any defense, so the referee gets in between the fighters and signals for the bell. It is all over!

Official Result: Winner via TKO in round 9 and STILL the Unified Lightweight Champion, Lily James!

Post-Fight: After a hard-fought, nasty battle, Lily is uncharacteristically expressive as she celebrates with a double arm flex in Blake’s face and she redirects the challenger’s earlier question back to her “Is this all you got?” No answer from a docile Blake, who is being helped to the safety of her corner by the referee and her coach soon joins them. Ana tells her fighter that she fought well and that she will get her next time. Blake needs a moment to recover, sitting on her corner stool before leaving the ring. Meanwhile, Ali hugs her fighter and congratulates Lily on her first title defense. She then proceeds to clean up Lily with a towel as the champ looks like she just survived a long battle, which she did!

Lily gets her hand raised by the referee and her championship belt back around her waist in the center of the ring. She then takes the mic to address the fans. “I must confess that I was nervous about my first title defense, so I’m very happy and relieved that I was able to do it successfully. I would like to thank you all for your support as well as the support of my team at LMW. Finally, I should also say that I’m happy to be able to silence Blake just like I did to Taylor, because they deserve it!” With that Lily leaves the ring with the belt around her waist.

A great comeback win for the champion in her first title defense. It was Lily’s longest and arguably hardest fight to date. If she hasn’t already, Lily definitely made enemies of the Fates’ blond duo after this fight, but she might also find allies within the same stable. As for Blake, coming up short in a title fight is of course disappointing, especially after leading the fight early on, but there is nothing to be ashamed of with her performance and she will still end up having a successful year.
