Amber Heard vs. Kaia Gerber (Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Blonde/brunette battle features Heard, who, at 36, is now highly-unlikely to fully realize the awesome potential she's flashed over the past decade, against Gerber, a second-generation FCBA member who's shown enough, despite a winless 2022 to make some believe she's also going to be a second-generation champion. But, if Heard is concerned about any of that, well. She's not letting on. "She's good," Amber admits. "But, she's green. And, green isn't getting it done against me."

"I may be green,' says Kaia, "But, when this fight is over, Amber is going to be black and blue."

ROUND ONE:

Heard quickly works to establish the jab. She's giving up range here, but it doesn't matter. Blonde beauty angles it out perfectly again and again, getting to spots where she can get off and consistently slipping or blocking the brunette's rejoinders. Gerber ALL out of sorts after a minute or so. She can't get Amber lined up and is missing way too much, giving Heard plenty of opportunities for solid counters. By the third minute, Gerber's actually on the back foot, giving ground as the blonde gets off again and again in combination, snapping the younger woman's head back repeatedly. Gerber's never hurt, but there's no doubt she's taking a beating, and she takes it right to the bell. When it rings, there's no question that Amber's taken the first and very wide to grab the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Gerber hears it in the corner and gets to work off the bell. She's more aggressive now, stepping to the blonde and backing her up with hard right hands. Amber, though, willing to play this game. She's not afraid to trade hard shots with the brunette, and the result is some scintillating exchanges that see heads snapped back and the crowd getting into things in a BIG way. Heard slippin' and dippin' as the round goes on, working a little body in spots. Kaia, meanwhile, all about getting that left on and following behind with hard right hands. It's good, two-way stuff, with both fighters getting some, but not enough of what they want. And, while everybody feels some power, nobody's hurt. At the bell, it's very, very close, but it's Kaia, and Gerber evens things up at 19.

ROUND THREE:

More two-way stuff. Gerber continuing to be aggressive, but Amber handling that like the veteran she is. She gives ground in spots, holds it in others, steps in at times as well. It's all about not letting Gerber dictate and not letting her get comfortable. And, to an extent, Heard succeeds. She's able to slow Kaia's advance, keep the brunette off, all while getting to spots of her own and responding to the younger woman's flurries with solid, sharp counters. For Kaia's part, she's getting work done, if not as much as she and her shouting corner want. She's not able to impose will, but she is able to hold her own and do so quite well. Final seconds of what everyone knows is a close round see Amber land her best punch of the fight, a nasty right that has Gerber backing and covering to the bell. When it rings, Amber's grabbed the points and the lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Heard looking to follow up on her big finish. Blonde stepping to behind the jab, landing solid shot and EATING A RIGHT FROM KAIA! Amber is GOBSMACKED as Gerber goes all in, battering the older woman back into the ropes and letting her have it with both hands. Heard in the tight earmuff, Kaia bouncing punches off it, looking to finish this thing, Amber hanging on grimly, jabbing back in spots, working hard to avoid the finisher and keep the referee at bay. Kaia staying sound, not giving Amber opportunities to counter. She's setting up her punches, even working a little body at times, though too little for the tastes of her corner, which keeps demanding she go downstairs more often. When the bell rings, Amber has ridden out the storm, but Kaia's taken it wide to even things again, this time at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Gerber pressing steadily forward. She's looking to follow up on her big round, using that long left jab to set up hard right hands. Heard effecting a fighting retreat, giving ground but firing back with hard shot of her own, making Kaia pay a price for every inch of canvas she takes. But, Gerber's willing to pay. She's determined to continue imposing will here, no matter what Amber does in response. BOOM! RIGHT HAND, KAIA! And DOWN GOES AMBER! Heard dropped straight to her back by a perfectly set-up right hand, coming in directly behind a stiff jab! Gerber quickly to a neutral corner. Ref counting down on the blonde, who lies, eyes closed, arms and legs splayed, unmoving. It's all a formality. Heard isn't just down, she's OUT and it's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is Kaia Gerber!

AFTER:

Gerber matter-of-fact. She's clearly not surprised that she came out on top in this one. "Nice to get on the board before the year ends," Kaia says with a smile. "Next year is going to be a big year for me. I'm going to be more active, stack some wins, and force my way into the title picture. Lightweights, you've been warned. Kaia's coming for you!"
