Caylee Cowan vs. Naomi Scott (Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Wind back to mid-2021, and no one would have believed the directions the careers of these two bantams have taken. Cowan had burst on the scene with three straight impressive wins and looked like a a rising star at both bantamweight and JMD. Scott, meanwhile, was the star of the bantam division, in the midst of an eight-fight winning streak and a six month reign with the Unified Bantamweight Championships. My, my. How things have changed. Cowan promptly lost her next four fights, saw her management collapse, was thrown a life preserver by GBS, then lost three more in a row. The former top prospect is now 3-7 career, and, while she's still plenty young enough to realize all her potential, she's also no better than fourth in a crowded, talented GBS bantamweight division. Scott, meanwhile, may have fallen even further. Since losing the title in August 2021, she's dropped six of eight, fallen out of the Top Twenty and is now on double-secret probation at HISC. And, while, like Caylee, there's no question Naomi can turn this around, let's just say, for both fighters, there's no time like the present.

ROUND ONE:

No surprise to anyone that Caylee gets after Naomi early. That's the blonde's MO, tons of aggression. What might be a surprise is that Scott SEEMS surprised. Naomi's instantly on the back foot, quickly ceding the field to the blonde, who gets to work with hard shot to both head and body. Scott's being chased out of her stance as Caylee takes complete control of things, much to the chagrin of the HISC corner, which is clearly becoming more and more frustrated with its fighter as the round goes along. The brunette can't get her feet set, can't get off in combination, and can't keep Caylee out of her grill. Instead, Cowan piles up points and punishment as Scott backs and covers, backs and covers right to the bell. When it rings, the blonde's taken it wide to lead 10-9.

ROUND TWO:

Scott hears it in the corner and she gets rolling. And the class the British brunette has shown so many times comes to the fore. Cowan's still pressing, but now Scott's moving those feet, snapping that jab into her rival's face, following with hard right hands, punishing the blonde as she attempts to close. THIS is the Naomi Scott we saw back in 2021, when she was on top of this division. THIS is 'The Hounslow Hammer', and she's dropping it on Cowan. Caylee keeps pressuring, of course, and, in spots, she gets inside and lands some hard leather to both head and body, but most of the round is fought at range, with Naomi getting much the better of things, piling up the same kind of points and punishment the blonde did in the previous frame. At the bell, there's no question. It's Scott wide and we're even at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Ladies settling in now. Naomi's continuing to work her magic at range, but she's finding Caylee harder to, well, FIND in this stanza. Cowan's not just walking forward now. She's learned her lesson from the last round. Now, she's WORKING forward, using the feet, moving the head, looking to pick off the jab. And, when she gets inside, she's taking full advantage, working head and body, landing hard shot, making Scott work to free herself and get back to range. Thus, the round is all about terms and who can enforce them. Both women have their moments, and, for the first time in the bout, things are closely run throughout. When the bell finally sounds, both fighters have scored and scored plenty, but it's the blonde who's done a bit more, and Caylee pulls into the 29-28 lead.

ROUND FOUR:

More of the same. Good stuff from both fighters with Scott in control at range and Cowan in control on the inside. There's plenty of hard shot being exchanged here, but both blonde and brunette ship the shell and stay afloat. About a minute in, however, it all changes. BOOM! Cowan caught FLUSH with a right hand on the way in and she's GOBSMACKED! Hounslow Hammer ALL IN, winging away with both hands, driving Caylee back into the ropes, then taking advantage of her high guard by RIPPING shots to the belly. Cowan crouching, trying to clinch. BOOM! Right hook, Scott! DOWN GOES CAYLEE! Cowan spilled to her right side parallel to the ropes. Naomi to a neutral corner quickly, but there's no need to rush. All power has been cut to the blonde's body. She's both down and OUT and it's OVER and your winner by KO4 is Naomi Scott!

AFTER:

Scott showing all the signs of being in a fight, but that lovely smile is in place. "She scuffed me a little, sure," the former champ admits. "But, I've gotten back on track now, and that's not just bad news for Caylee. It's bad news for the whole bloody DIVISION."
