BEFORE:
"This year has been quite a rollercoaster for me,” Roberts says, speaking of her recent, painful losses to both Avril Lavigne and Brec Bassinger. “It started very poorly, I wasn't in my element due to personal reasons, but then found my groove and took down 6 girls in a row. Now it seems like I'm back to not being able to live up to my own expectations of myself. It sucks. I was supposed to be sitting here as the freaking champion!" Roberts sneers, crossing her arms and looking pissed. "This slump ends tonight. I'm ending the year with a win in the form of a spectacular knockout over Mendes. Last time she only lasted 5 rounds and I doubt she'll even make it that far tonight. Hope they have an ambulance ready for you, Camila, because you caught me in a REALLY bad time." The Dollhouse Ice-Queen ends with her patented b*tch-stare directed squarely at Camila Mendes who’s sitting at the other end of the conference table.

On paper, this match-up makes a lot of sense, with both girls recently KO’ing Emma Watson and both trying and failing to secure the Flyweight title earlier this year with Roberts falling to champion Brec Bassinger in her last outing and Camila losing her shot against former champion Dove Cameron in June.

“I don’t know who Emma still thinks she is, but losing FOUR title fights in 3 years should be a pretty big indication that you don’t belong at the top of this division. I guess she can’t really take a hint. Ego will do that to you.” Mendes retorts from across the room, drawing laughter from what sounded like Avril Lavigne herself somewhere from the back of the hall. But when Roberts glares and scours the room for any sign of her nemesis, she’s nowhere to be found. Mendes continues, relishing the sight of her opponent getting riled up. “She also lost 5 times just this year…So yes, I may have lost our first fight, but that was what? FIVE years ago? Things change Ems. Only one of us is a former champion in this division and as we all know it’s definitely not her. Ms.“Ice-Queen” here is going to learn her place tonight.”

Mendes and Roberts size each other up at the podium, and just like last time, both ladies are of similar height, but the younger Mendes with the bulkier build, wider frame and hips, giving her both the sturdiness to absorb punishment and the punching power needed to knock out those girls who mess with her. Roberts ain’t looking too concerned, however, having her own set of qualities as a fighter, namely her quickness and agility coupled with plenty of punching skill. The “Ice-Queen” turning her chin up at the Odds & Ends starlet, and refusing to back down before the fight official comes between them.

Fight night rolls around and the girls await the bell in their respective corners. Emma doing some last minute stretches in her usual pink sports bra and long fighting white tights, blonde hair in a tight ponytail and she’s wearing white gloves for this contest. In the opposite corner, Camila looking toned and ready in all-black, jumping up and down in her tight-fitting black sports bra, matching short tights and black gloves, her raven-black hair in a ponytail.

Referee signals for this fight to start, and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Flyweight action!

ROUND 1:
Emma knows Camila has the power advantage, and so she’s moving in a zig-zag pattern instead of straight towards the brunette, holding back her punches and waiting for Camila to strike first. Mendes has no such qualms, eagerly dashing forward, already winding back a right hook to sail at the head. Of course, it doesn’t land. Not this early at least, with Roberts showing off her dodging and weaving and counter-punching skills, before slamming a return hook to the cheek, another off the forehead to put Camila on notice. Mendes thinks Roberts is primed to go down to a third girl by the end of the night, namely, herself, but is rudely awakened when her attacks don’t land, and instead, she’s the one taking damage to her face. The bell rings and it’s as wide of a round as you can get, with Roberts looking on fire despite her earlier claims at being in a slump.

ROUND 2:
Emma continues to run with her strategy of run and duck, counter and pepper. Mendes ain’t adapting as well as she’d like, taking grazing shots to the chin and cheek in the first minute, in a repeat of the last round. It’s not until the Odds and Ends starlet wakes up and smells the bacon, hangs back and just lets the Doll dance left and right in front of her. Emma not punching, and neither is Mendes - not until she has a clear shot, at least, as a powerful cross hand slams hard into the Doll’s arms, another catching her on her body as Mendes lunges south and under the arms instead. Emma lets out a grunt and immediately falls into a retreat, having tasted the brunette’s power for the first time in a long while. Camila smirks, slowly stalking forward and striking, and it looks like she’s found herself her winning strategy going forth!

ROUND 3:
Emma’s trying a new strat here: skirting forward and sending burst fire into Camila’s face and body, hoping to outpoint the stockier woman that way. Mendes again not adapting fast enough, trying to block and intercept and then swing back at the Doll’s head all at once, and she’s just a little too slow, with Roberts long gone and smirking from across the ring by that point of time. Camila learns to be patient again, however, by the third minute withholding her hooking arm and just twitching forward, making Emma flinch at the first sign of trouble. This primes the blonde for a nice feint to her side profile, before a chunky right hook catches her on the side of her body. Roberts’ eyes go wide, desperately backpedaling and trying to recoup the air that just got expunged from her lungs. Mendes gives chase again, but this time, the bell rings soon after, giving her only a narrow lead.

ROUND 4:
Roberts looks on, frustrated at not being able to crack this tough nut. Yes, she put Mendes away in five rounds back in 2018, but both women are very different fighters four years on. Mendes keeps her hands up, again making short forays forward, hoping to entrap Roberts against the ropes or corner before knocking her out in one fell swoop. Roberts denies her this strategy, a constant stream of jabs to the head to frustrate and obscure her vision, so that when Mendes does swing at her head, it’s more or less entirely off target, and Roberts is able to swerve under to avoid it with no problem. The same problem can be said of Mendes, too: how do you catch a fighter who doesn’t want to brawl? For now, whether Roberts realizes it or not, she’s taken the lead in this fight with another wide round.

ROUND 5:
Emma continues to control her foe from a distance, keeping that right hand extended and primed at Mendes’ face. It’s worked in the past, so the Doll grows a little complacent (and triumphant, even), when one of her jabs lands clean on the chin. But Mendes wasn’t planning on staying put, or even falling back this time. The Odds and Ends starlet realizes she NEEDS to get in close if she ever hopes to blast Roberts off her feet and score this much needed comeback victory for herself. And so she RUSHES in despite the hail of gunfire sent towards her face, literally SHOCKING Emma’s head to the side with a well-placed hook from outta nowhere! Roberts is too stunned to speak, let alone see that coming! Her head gets swiveled to the side, with the rest of her body following… and all Mendes has to do is swing at the faltering Doll for the fences, bashing her to the chin on her way down to the canvas! It’s a KNOCKDOWN for Camila Mendes, who grins wide and pumps both fists in the air, showboating in front of the sold-out crowd! Poor Emma’s lying flat on her back, conscious but looking stunned! She tries to push herself off the ground, but seems to be having some difficulty… Referee’s too quick, already standing over and shouting numbers down into her face. But the Doll DOES manage to get back up, quickly accelerating the pace only in the final seconds of the count, then steadying herself by the count of 8.

There’s still two minutes on the clock, however, and judging from that look on Mendes’ face, we all know EXACTLY what she plans to do! Sound of the bell and HERE COMES MENDES, looking to clean the Doll’s clock! Emma’s corner shouting at her to BRACE, and Emma does her absolute best, as the first big hook comes sailing in from the side - BLAM!! Mendes is using ALL of her remaining power to make a statement, sending hook after hook crashing into the blonde’s arms, before dipping her shoulders and laying waste to Emma’s waistline! To her credit, Roberts is holding on, her eyes squinted in pain but using the rest of her body to get in close and personal, lunge forward into a clinch around the arms whenever she can. This tactic wastes precious time for her assailant, and Mendes is slowly beginning to tire from all that frustrated growling into forehead and shoulder. Still, the brunette ain’t about to give up on her prey, still battering at the ribs and side of Emma’s head, but by the third minute, is lacking the power and speed to actually send Roberts back down to the mat. Instead, Roberts is being methodical in close quarters instead, keeping one of her hands in the pocket and socking her foe to the chin with some nasty uppercuts, knocking Camila’s head skyhigh! Mendes takes a THIRD shot to the jawline and suddenly the black beauty is the one reeling dangerously on her feet before slumping into Emma’s frame by the ropes!! Roberts takes a deep breath and BASHES another glove into her ear, a well-placed strike that seems to do the trick! Mendes gets TURNED around on the spot, her head and shoulders flying off to the side, the rest of her thick body in suspended disbelief! AND DOWN SHE GOES, falling face-first to the canvas! It’s a return KNOCKDOWN from the Dollhouse Flyweight in the final minute of the fifth! Good lord do these two NOT like each other’s guts!

Emma Roberts is still trying to find her own bearings, stumbling into the nearby ropes in shock before being herded to the neutral corner by the referee… The blonde slumps against the corner post panting as she watches her opponent layed out on her stomach and hoping this will be enough to secure this win from the depths of despair! And she might just get her wish as the referee begins to count a very groggy looking Mendes. The former champion manages to slowly roll to her back at the count of 5 but Robert’s accurate head shots did some work and Camila’s is NOT cooperating with her! the O&E beauty lying FLAT on her back, with both arms cocked high above her head! 8….9…..she can’t get up ! It’s all OVER! The ref calls for the bell!

Official Decision: Emma Roberts defeats Camila Mendes via KO5!

AFTER:
The crowd erupts as Emma Roberts stares in shock at her handywork after managing to salvage a surprise knockout from the jaws of defeat in one hell of a 5th round, ending her year with this HUGE win over the former Flyweight champion! The Dollhouse corner elated as a now smiling Roberts waddles her way back to her own corner, looking hurt and exhausted but very happy and ready for a big group hug with Dollhouse CEO Carmen Electra joining the celebration!

The O&E corner in sharp contrast are beside themselves, and who can blame them after watching their figher being on the brink of knocking Roberts out only to find herself down and out a minute later!

Emma Roberts may not be the strongest or sturdiest Flyweight around, but her excellent technique and accuracy combined with her intelligence are the things that make her offense so deadly, keeping her in that title contender conversation in recent years. Those offensive talents were on full display tonight when a few pinpoint accurate head shots managed to put the sturdier Camila Mendes down and out just like that!

“She really thought she had me there.” The Ice-Queen chuckles in a post-fight interview at ringside. “Maybe I should give her some lessons on how to punch. It’s not the volume or the power… it’s the accuracy and skill, dummy. I mean, just look at you now……” Emma sneers, smirking in satisfaction as she watches Camila’s team attempt to help their fighter make it back to her feet after a few long minutes spent on the mat.

With this final fight of 2022 behind them, Emma ends her year with a big win to bounce back from her title fight defeat and a 7-5 record overall, while Camila goes down 0-2 to Roberts, ending her year with a still impressive 6-3 overall record despite losing tonight.
We can’t wait to see what these two’s future looks like in 2023, and with their rivalry reaching new heights after tonight, here’s to hoping we’ll see another Roberts vs Mendes showdown sometime next year!
