Kyra Santoro vs Caity Lotz

Kyra:

Caity:

BEFORE:
Kyra Santoro grinning madly in the pre-fight segment, speaking to reporters who keep mentioning the Vixen’s newly ranked status in the FCBA.

“I know, right?! I couldn’t believe it as well,” Kyra says, beaming. “It’s the first time I’ve broken into the Top 20, and I intend to stay there. It’s my highest ranking to date, and you know, by beating Caity, I hope it shows how serious I am at breaking into the Top 10 one day.”

At the other end of the ring, Caity looks half-impressed, half-dismissive, talking to her own group of press kits and emphasizing her own prospects:

“I know, I know. I’m having a rough year and all. But everyone has those dry spells, right?” Caity says, trying to maintain a smile. “Santoro’s got heart, but heart alone ain’t gonna win you titles. I’m gonna focus on getting my first win of the year. If it’s at the expense of Kyra’s place in the rankings, I can live with that.”

Cordial meeting between these two big girls, Kyra slightly taller but no less toned and bulked up from a side-to-side comparison. Blonde and brunette actually touch gloves - a rarity in this day and age - before heading back to their corners to await the opening bell.

HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Bantamweight action! Can Santoro tie off the year with another win, or will Lotz score her first? Referee signals for the bell to find out!

ROUND 1:
Big girls get to fighting, both Kyra and Caity striding in close with their arms up at first, but quickly pulled back to swing. First hooks land to the stray arms, as they struggle to intercept each other’s punishment, Santoro then landing the first hook to the tummy, before she takes one of Caity’s to her side. First round and they’re NOT shying away from giving it their all, plugging leather to the sides and then going wide with the head swings, trying to score a first-round KO. By the bell, the judges can’t keep up with the constant attacks, and from the overall look of it, it did look like both girls torched each other well enough. Draw to both fighters.

ROUND 2:
All that changes when Caity scores an early hook to the temple, which dazes Kyra when she went low instead to the body. Santoro sent reeling, but quickly reorienting herself as Caity no doubt strides in to try and finish her off. Santoro blocking and ducking her head behind her arms, but Lotz with few qualms, getting in close and scuffing shots at the Vixen’s belly, then blasting away with big lefts and rights to the arms, again trying to throw her off her game (and feet). Santoro manages to get away by the middle mark, falling back to jabs and crosses to keep the blonde at bay. She can’t stop the wide round won by Lotz this time, however!

ROUND 3:
Caity again comes in strong, arms up and the rest of her body brimming with KO power. She sends in an early jab combo ending with a straight hand to Kyra’s body, earning a grunt from the Vixen’s lips. But Santoro adapts and steadies herself, still moving backwards and just waiting for the best moment to strike back. That moment comes when Lotz takes another swing for her chin, ends up bowled over instead when Santoro DUCKED under and sent an uppercut into her midsection! Lotz groans, instantly covering up and stumbling back. Santoro merciless, hammering away right back at the blonde’s flanks, trying to get those arms lower and away from the face. She sees the opportunity and STRIKES, a hook blasted to the chin to send Caity reeling to the side, big blonde FALLING down to all fours, breathing hard! It’s a KNOCKDOWN for the Vixen!

Santoro nodding amidst heavy breaths, immediately moving to the neutral corner, whilst Lotz begins to crawl her way back up, still some fight left in her! Caity recovers by the count of 8, taking deep breaths with her back to the ropes. For now, this fight continues!

ROUND 4:
Santoro has a murderous look in her eyes, her entire body itching for the bell to start! She has Lotz in her eyesights, and CHARGES! Can Lotz truly survive the onslaught?! Big girls meet near the ropes and THROW DOWN, Kyra launching the first wave of hooks to the side of the head, blasting away at the tummy to try and get Caity down. Lotz being stubborn, eyes set and swinging back, hitting Santoro with a hook of her own across the chin, another above the eye, ignoring the body shots for now! Santoro didn’t plan on her prey actually hitting back, not at this point! The Vixen groans as another of her hooks goes WAY off, making her stumble awkwardly to the side… Caity ready and waiting, TURNING her chin upwards with an inwards uppercut to the jawline, which DROPS the Vixen on the spot!! OUCH indeed! A return KNOCKDOWN for the blonde fighter, who raises her hands in the air in a shock comeback victory! Kyra on all fours by her feet, groaning and heaving, trying to recover from this humiliating turn of events. Lotz rests up best she can in the neutral corner, looking a little dismayed when Kyra balances herself out by the count of 8 as well. These two WANT to go all the way, indeed!

ROUND 5:
Fifth round and we’re already got a knockdown apiece from either fighter. They come in, more slowly, arms loose and reactive, now more reluctant to strike first in case the other girl is waiting to pounce back. Lotz in the end makes the first moves, lunging for the younger girl’s head, to no avail, Santoro leaning back or blocking with raised arms. Lotz looks content to go after the toned stomach, catching Kyra with a couple more thrusts to the body, but then gets her head TURNED to the side with a catching hook! Santoro was ready and waiting, suddenly stepping in and slamming a right hand clean into the side of her head! OUCHHH! Lotz looks stunned, mouth open as another hook crashes into her cheek cleanly… Big blonde is staggered, getting hounded and hounded with more blows from the Vixen. Santoro rearing her shoulders and getting those fists in there, throwing a final overhand to the temple to CLOTHESLINE the blonde flat to her back!! This HAS to be it!? Lotz looks stunned and breathing hard, FLAT on her back and staring up at the ceiling lights! Referee is already counting numbers above her but this time, she doesn’t even seem to be reacting! He reaches the end of the 10-count and WAVES it over!

Official Decision: Kyra Santoro defeats Caity Lotz via KO5!

AFTER:
A dominant win for Santoro, who never dreamed of reaching this level of achievement even after more than five years of doing this boxing thing. She throws her hands in the air, big struts about the ring, and shaking her fists in the cameras, demanding the next challenger step up!

Perhaps 2023 will be Santoro’s year, through and true! Lotz getting mended to by the medics, later helped up by Kyra herself and the two women sharing a sincere embrace. Best of luck to the Medallion fighter for the future! She’s proven she can hit as hard as some of her younger contemporaries, and all she might need is a consistent push!
