Maddie looks excited during the press conference, smiling wide. "Me and Jenna actually go way back!" Maddie chuckles, before continuing. "We had a ton of fun doing 'The Fallout' together - and since then I consider her a friend. But unfortunately for Jenna....I'm not friendly at all when I'm in the ring…” Maddie shoots her co-star a playful, cocky smile. “I'm too competitive. So I hope she's ready for that and that it won't damage our friendship. She'll get a hug after I beat her though,” Maddie says, ending her segment with a smirk.

At the other end of the room, Jenna Ortega grins, the Global Boxing Syndicate starlet and recent Netflix and TikTok darling not looking too intimidated by the friendly trash talk.

"Hey I'm not very friendly either, just ask Parrish, Breslin and Cole,” Ortega continues to smile, referencing the three other girls she’s KO’ed since the start of this year. “As much as I love Maddie I'm sure I'd enjoy beating her up a little, or a lot. She's much bigger than me, actually she's the tallest opponent I've faced so far, so it's going to be quite the challenge, but I feel like I'm ready for her. I'm still undefeated after 3 and I'm getting better every day. I'm going to give her hell. It's 4-0 tonight baby!"

Height difference of four inches (and possibly more) is immediately apparent when both girls face off from opposite ends of the podium, Jenna smirking upwards and Maddie looking down with an equally confident smile, both girls somehow relishing this re-encounter and sending the photographers into a mad frenzy.

Someone even shouts from the back, “Go on, kiss her!!” to which the entire room erupts in cheers and laughs. But no such naughty action tonight, with both fighters acting professional both off-screen, and more importantly, as future opponents in the ring. They separate to audible disappointment from the room, but promise plenty of action in just a couple of hours’ time.

Fight night rolls around and Maddie is looking fit and toned in one corner of the ring, brandishing a pair of blue gloves, clad in neon yellow sports top and dark blue ankle-length tights, her dirty blonde hair in a tight high ponytail as she bounces up and down in her corner. In the opposite corner, the 5’1 Jenna Ortega looking focused and ready to rumble - she’s wearing a purple sports bra and black boxing trunks, her dark brown hair in a high bun as she shadow boxes for the fans with her black gloves on at the sound of her name.

Both young ladies seem ready and willing to punch each other’s lights out and judging by the noise levels in the arena the fans cannot contain their excitement much longer! There’s the bell and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Flyweight action!

ROUND 1:
Nothing special from Maddie, at least not this early, with loads of footwork left and right before the Doll pounces upon her shorter compatriot, firing flurries towards her arms and head. Ortega has only had three fights under her belt but she’s won them all, focusing on defense in this first round as she takes the punches to her guard, occasionally returning fire with a snap jab to Maddie’s face. Ziegler, though, the one landing shots more often, and harder, using her power and height to impose upon her once upon a time co-star. Ortega ain’t making many moves on her blonde rival so far, and she’ll need to do so if she wants to win this fight in the later rounds. For now, keeping at the distance, she falls short of expectations, letting Maddie take it wide by the bell.

ROUND 2:
Jenna makes up for her sluggish first round, some early charges at Maddie when she least expects it, then sending flurries all over her arms and body. Ortega might be shorter and smaller in size, but the brunette’s heart is full of fury and fire, just like her on-screen counterpart. She lands several blows off Ziegler’s tummy, circumventing the arms and going all out to the Doll’s holes in her defenses. Maddie’s grunting early, but soon counters with wide swings to the head, trying to stave her foe off, and establish more distance to strike back. First two minutes go by, however, and she can’t quite nail Ortega in place before the lean American slips by and in close, lunging another uppercut at her body to drive the air out of her lungs. Ziegler returns fire at the last minute, managing to land a hook or two off the side of the brunette’s head, which dazes Jenna enough to keep her back.

ROUND 3:
One would expect Maddie to be more agile and used to counter-punching, and the Doll does use her longer reach to fire combinations towards Jenna’s head in the very first minute. But Ortega’s smaller stature and recent dance moves means she’s able to slip in and out of each flurry, dodging left and right and then under, before firing her own fists into Maddie’s face. Ziegler needs to move even faster and smarter if she hopes to fight her foe’s agility. Maddie takes a breather in the middle minute, evaluating her options. She doesn’t want to get in close and brawl… not just yet at least, and tries shocking Ortega with well-aimed crosses to the middle of her arms, nailing a fist to the body to stop Ortega in her tracks, but only in the final seconds of this round. Close call goes to the Adams Family actress, who begins to lead in points due to her aggression.

ROUND 4:
Maddie not having it, however, blocking more effectively and often, before blasting away at Jenna’s head like she’s been insulted by the newcomer. No love lost between this pair of frenemies, as Jenna gets in a thick right hook to the body before Maddie responds immediately with a swipe across the face, scarring the chin and sending the brunette stumbling off to the side. It might be the opportunity for Ziegler to strike, but she relents, choosing to keep a firm defensive line and stalk inwards to push her advantage bit by bit. Ortega manages to steady herself, as a result, resumes her lightning flurries towards Ziegler’s arms and face, scoring again and again off the Doll’s forehead. Not enough to turn the tide of this round, but Ziegler’s earlier lead has evaporated somewhat by the time the bell sounds.

ROUND 5:
But Maddie decides to RIP and TEAR her way in, shocking Jenna with an early hook to the head before barreling inwards to try and finish her ‘friend’ off! Ortega looks like she’s in trouble, covering up and no longer smirking as she gets banged about by those powerful overhands, Maddie having practiced in the gym for exactly this number! Ortega gets nailed between the eyes by another cross hand, which sends her careening dangerously into the ropes! AND HERE COMES ZIEGLER, chugging away at the body hup hup before doing her best to KO her former co-star with more headhunting hooks! But Jenna survives the onslaught, relying on instincts to duck and weave, then lunge forward to clinch up, buying herself some much needed, soul-breathing time! Maddie does NOT look pleased when the bell rings, meaning Ortega has managed to survive her killer combo! Shutout performance for the Doll, but that continuous rush might have taken its toll on her!

ROUND 6:
Jenna on the ropes in the first minute, literally skirting the perimeter of the ring and letting a tired-looking Maddie come at her, if she can. Ziegler’s moving hella slower compared to the fifth, making sudden lunges at Ortega’s head but not scoring a whole lot more than a paw to the arms or body. Meanwhile, Ortega’s quick to rebound, having conserved her stamina and now unleashing it with quick bursts of combinations, sneaking left-right-left jabs to Maddie’s nose and lips, then going to the Doll’s toned midsection with more thudding action. Ortega actually pushes the Doll back in the final seconds, after having scored a big overhand of her own to the forehead, which throws Ziegler back and towards her corner! The Doll is quickly losing her cool, and though she got in a couple of hard thumps to the ribs and body, she still loses the round close.

ROUND 7:
Not that common for Maddie Ziegler to chase her foe all the way to the seventh round, let alone go all the way to the final quarter. The Dollhouse newcomer has been a force to be reckoned with, so far only having gone down to Millie Bobby Brown and Avril Lavigne in her otherwise promising career. She tries to duck and fire at the incoming Ortega, but there’s surprise in the blonde’s eyes at Jenna’s sheer audacity of her own: here’s a girl four inches shorter and leaner, but Ortega’s rushing at her and spraying jabs all over, bashing several to the lips and then driving more fists straight into her body! Ziegler gets backed into the ropes from the onslaught, before taking an ill-fated number to the chin and cheek, her arms going south when she should have maintained her guard high. Crowd ROARS as Ortega pounces on her mistake, rocking the bigger girl with another big hook across her chin, before an uppercut plunges into her solar plexus which doubles the Doll over in agony! Maddie has her eyes wide, lips parted, looks about to spit out her gum shield, but Jenna Ortega certainly has OTHER ideas, the American actress squaring her shoulders before whipping a final hook across her temple, and MADDIE COLLAPSES! THUD! The blonde hits the mat in a heap of splayed limbs and is looking absolutely out of it as her head lolls to the side! IS THIS IT?! Poor Ziegler’s eyes are still open and blinking but it doesn’t seem like anybody’s home as she lies motionless on the canvas! Looks like Maddie’s completely unresponsive! She’s out of it and the referee concurs, skipping over and then quickly waving his hands in the air, skipping the count as well! It’s OVER in upset (?) KO7 fashion!

Official Decision: Jenna Ortega defeats Maddie Ziegler via KO7!

AFTER:
WOW! The fans in the arena POP as a victorious Jenna turns to face them with a smirk, raising both arms in the air! The little 20 year GBS star remains perfect with a 4-0 record after absolutely wrecking Ziegler, putting her friend out of commission here after 7 rounds of back and forth action. Maddie with NO answers tonight for Ortega’s quickness and aggression, succumbs to a round 7 blitzkrieg by the smaller girl that sends her crushing to the mat and in need of medical help.

Dollhouse corner in shock, rushing into the ring to attempt to bring Ziegler back to reality, a reality she’s probably not going to enjoy being back to. Ortega remains standing next to her fallen friend, this time the smaller girl is the one towering over her friend as she watches the Dollhouse team lift Maddie to a sitting position by the ropes as reality starts to set in for the defeated Doll.

As Maddie comes to, tears begin to form on her pretty face as she realizes what has happened here tonight, with the Dollhouse star suffering her second KO defeat of her career at the hands of yet another fellow 20 year old friend. It’s a tough pill to swallow for someone as competitive in nature as Ziegler after going on a 9-1 tear since joining the the Dollhouse roster.

To her credit, Jenna sticks around for several long minutes to make sure her friend is okay, with Maddie finally making it back to her feet with the help of her team after 10 long minutes. The girls exchange a friendly hug with Jenna adding some encouraging words but Maddie’s face make it clear she is devastated not only physically but mentally too after coming into this fight as the favorite and getting floored by the smaller, less experienced actress.

A cheerful Jenna Ortega and her team continue their celebration inside the ring for several long minutes after a tearful Ziegler is escorted out, and judging by tonight’s performance and her perfect record this year, the 20 year old 5’1 dynamite is going to be one of the most exciting prospects to watch in the flyweight division through 2023.

As for Maddie Ziegler, her excellent debut year ends in tears tonight, but the talented blonde is still very young and will surely learn from tonight’s setback and come back stronger in 2023, hopefully getting right back to her winning ways and fulfilling the great potential her stable sees in her as a future Flyweight champion.
