Intro:
Two bantamweights needing a win to get themselves moving up the rankings. Sophia Bush and Saoirse Ronan have been around the top end of the rankings but hasn't ever won a title in the division. Can this be the start of a run to that goal?

Both women spoke to Alicia Atout for the FCBA Network in the backstage area earlier in the night. First up was Sophia wearing a black vest with blue jeans and black shoes. She shakes the hand of Alicia as they are both smiling.

"I have been watching Saoirse since she started in this sport. As you know I am getting any younger so I need to take my chances to fight and beat these younger fighters before I get lumped into the cougar division." Winking at that last part as she speaks.

Sophia adds "I need to take this run at winning either the bantamweight title or the JMD belt. If I don't then I will look back on my career wondering what might have been." With a more serious look, knowing that time is catching up to her.

Saoirse meanwhile wears a black leather jacket with a white vest, black denim jeans and heels. Smiling as she hugs Alicia. Then says "it's great to be back on pay per view. Here's hoping I can get back on the winning run." Wiping her brow with a wink.

"I should say I respect Sophia and like her but I have to beat her. Too long I have been in the shadows. Needing to keep moving forwards and not worrying if I will be signed by anyone. I need to grab every opportunity that presents itself." Says the Irish lass with a nod to herself. Looking focused on her task tonight.

Fighting time, first out comes Sophia Bush with coach Hilary Swank. She jogs down the aisle with a smile. She is wearing a black sports bra, matching trunks, shoes and gloves, hair tied into a braid. She gets into the ring with her demeanor turning serious as she bounces on her toes. Eyes shut for a moment as she tells herself to take down Saoirse.

Who is out now with her coach at her left side. Saoirse taps her green gloves together. Looking forwards to this fight. She wears a white sports bra, white trunks with green stripes down the sides with matching shoes. Hair tied into a ponytail. She climbs through the ropes into the ring giving a wave to her supporters.

The fighters jog to the center of the ring. Bouncing on their toes as the referee finishes their instructions. Touching gloves up respectfully with a nod. Both return over to their corners. The bell rings to start 10 rounds of bantamweight action.

Round 1:
Coming out to engage around the center of the ring, touching each other up with jabs to start as they get a feel for each other. Bodies looking a little tense, as they know the other is a solid boxer. With bigger punches starting to come as they head closer to the second minute.

Sophia soon turns the tempo up as she ducks a jab to step inside with a counter right to the ribs of Saoirse, a left hook follows to make the Irish girl grit her mouthpiece. Slamming a straight into Sophia's head as she takes two steps back. Before Saoirse can properly reset though Sophia is back on her. Clearly now triggered into attack after her success. Landing a crisp jab/straight to Ronan's face.

Fighting off her back foot. Saoirse showing her fighting spirit but she is getting caught as she opens up, a right hook smacks Saoirse across her cheek. Allowing Sophia to pin her back against a neutral corner. Needing to clinch as Bush digs her fists into the midsection. Both break at the second time of asking. Saoirse getting into space firing back as both let their hands go in the final twenty seconds. At the bell both jog back to their corners, Sophia has to be the happier of the two fighters there.

Round 2:
Saoirse showing early on that she is a scraper, coming back at Sophia head on as they trade on the inside. A few stray punches land around fighters boobs to make them hiss. Sophia is nudged back by a left before a right hook slams onto her jaw. Making her retreat back as Saoirse now motors forwards on the attack with punches aimed at her head.

Covering up more as she throws single punches back, Sophia is getting outworked by her foe. Saoirse looks to want payback for the opening round. Slamming in some body shots of her own, mostly looking to land a hook over the top into the face of the older woman. Getting clipped back into her own face when Sophia sees a path through her guard.

They nearly clash heads late in the round as Sophia tries to muscle her way back to the center of the ring, another clinch taking place as they look to wrestle the other back. This time the referee does step in to break them apart. Eyes firmly locked when they do so as they come back together in a flurry of punches till the round comes to an end, Saoirse showing her skills with her toughness that round.

Round 3:
Both have certainly loosened up as they box around the center of the ring with double jabs and hooks flying. Saoirse gets caught under her chin by a straight to knock her back a step. Sophia drives forwards with a left hook on her jaw to turn her head to the side.

Pressing right into the younger woman, Sophia is mauling her to the body with short body shots till Saoirse holds onto her. Both wrestling for control before being split apart. Saoirse quicker off the mark with her jaw landing flush into the face of Sophia. She just misses with a left hook as Sophia darts back out the way. Then lands a counter right into the cheek of the blonde just under her left eye to make Ronan hiss out.

Final minute sees Sophia getting inside to work before Saoirse shoves her back. Pounding in punches from the outside in return. Battling for control as they bark in effort. Crowd cheering both women on. The round soon ends with Sophia nodding to herself as she returns to her corner. Growing in confidence that she can win this bout. Saoirse meanwhile takes a breath to keep herself cool, nodding to her coach as she listens to them.

Round 4:
Trading harder shots from behind their jabs. Sophia is looking to get in closer to hurt Saoirse. Getting clipped around her cheeks as she does so. A left forearm bumps into the chest of Bush to put her on the back foot before a right hook smacks across her cheek to send her back a step.

Saoirse pushing forwards with another crisp jab/straight combo. Sophia finding herself driven back into a corner, where Saoirse looks to pound on her with power punches. Needing to hold on before she finds herself getting knocked out by one of these big punches. Sophia looks annoyed that she was forced back again after having such a good round before that.

Broken up by the referee. Sophia is again on the defensive as Saoirse steps after her. More punches coming from the aggressor as Bush is only landing jabs. a few power punches miss from Saoirse as she starts to swing from her hips. Getting caught with counter punches late in the round with the bell ringing soon enough. Both sit on their stools with a sheen of sweat forming, attentive to their coaches as this is hard to call whose on top.

Round 5:
Pushing off their stools to resume. They are exchanging stiff punches around the center of the ring. Each trying to land a punch to ward back the other. Saoirse swings in a haymaker like right that finds air. Sophia instead with a counter harpoon right, STRIKING SAOIRSE ON HER LIVER AREA! DOWN GOES THE IRISH GIRL TO ALL FOURS AS SHE CRIES OUT!

Gumshield is spat out by Saoirse as Sophia gives her a hard look, then heads to the neutral corner. 1...2...3... Saoirse is panting as she holds her stomach with her right hand, 4...5... Rolling to her back fighting back tears as her cheeks are rosy red. 6...7...8.. Saoirse shutting her eyes as covers her face with her left glove. 9...10 upset that she has been counted out!

That should help boost Sophia's confidence heading into 2023! Arms in the air as she has a beaming smile. Looking out to the crowd to see her fans on their feet cheering and whistling for her. A mark difference to her defeat only a few short weeks ago.

While Saoirse has an ice pack applied to her stomach. Gloves taken off as her coach strokes her hair and tells her "you'll be ok" as she looks up with tears in her eyes. As much from the sting of defeat as well as the pain in her stomach. She nods when she is helped to sit up, holding the ice pack herself as her breathing is more under control.

Over comes Sophia after being wiped down and gotten her gloves taken off. Putting her right arm around the back of Saoirse, she kisses her left cheek and tells her "sorry about that" which Saoirse laughs at. Replying "well next time aim for my chin, I could have took those punches all day." Both laughing to show no hard feelings.

Saoirse congratulates Sophia before she heads out the ring. There's plenty of untapped talent it seems in Saoirse. The question though has to become as she nears thirty can she really become a contender without the backing of a stable or even maybe a former fighter to advise her.

Inside the ring Sophia is a different story. Getting the win as her left hand is raised by the referee to make it official. Question is how long is a piece of string for her? She has talent but at forty can she really replicate what the current bantamweight champion Minka Kelly has done and win a title aged over forty in this age of top younger stars?

She seems up to the challenge as she tells the cameras "Minka you better keep that title till I can earn it. Show the world us older brunettes are really the best." Winking at that last part. Before going on a lap of honour to blow kisses to her fans.
