Anya Taylor-Joy vs Alexa Collins

(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Anya Taylor-Joy
(26, 5’7, 18-5 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)

Alexa Collins
(27, 5’6, FCBA Debut, Beever’s Babes)

Pre-Fight: Next up, League of Mighty Women’s Anya Taylor-Joy will be taking on a newcomer to the FCBA, Beever’s Babes’ latest signing Alexa Collins. Anya will be looking to build some momentum after her win in the last fight as she hopes to make a better start to this year. As for Alexa, she will be looking to make an impressive start to her FCBA career by pulling off an upset against Anya.

Anya starts off the pre-fight press conference as she seems upset about something. “Normally I would be in a more welcoming mood, but I got burned too many times last year, so I’m not in that mood anymore. As I see it, Alexa has the potential to become another bully in the league, so I consider this fight as a precaution. I’ll deal with her before she becomes a problem!”

Alexa looks a bit confused, but she shrugs and takes her turn to address the audience. “I don’t know what she is on about or who made her the expert on bullies, but I got a feeling that she is just trying to take her frustration out on me. She might think that I am an easy target as I’m new around here, but I’ll prove her wrong! I’m fit and strong and I’ll prove that I’m ready to take on anyone in this league!” After her remarks, the press conference comes to an end as they stare intensely at each other.

It is fight night and Anya makes her entrance first accompanied by her coach, Gillian Anderson, who has taken over that responsibility after Anya had an argument with Summer Glau about her coaching methods. She waves to the crowd as they cheer for her, but she seems completely focused on the fight as she enters the ring.

She is wearing a yellow sports bra, matching trunks, black gloves and boots, while her hair is tied into a ponytail.

Alexa comes out next accompanied by her coach Sabrina Washington. She looks excited for her debut as she waves and blows kisses to the fans cheering for her. Once inside the ring, she shadow boxes as she listens to her coach.

She is wearing a black sports bra, matching trunks, red gloves and boots, while her hair is tied into a high ponytail.

Both fighters come to the center of the ring to listen to the final instructions of the referee and then they go for a stiff touch of gloves with a cold stare from Anya as Alexa shakes her head. They step back to their respective corners and we are ready for 10 rounds of bantamweight action!

Fight: Round 1: Alexa looks excited to experience her first action in the ring as she eagerly rushes to the center and engages with her opponent. She throws a one-two combo, but she cannot connect as Anya steps aside and lands a counter hook to the overly eager Alexa’s face. That doesn’t deter the debuting fighter though, as she continues to stand and trade. After a few more misses and eating a couple more counterpunches, Alexa scores with her first punch as she slips a straight through Anya’s guard. She starts landing more frequently after that, but she is still missing with more. Meanwhile, Anya is throwing less, but landing more as she is precise with those counterpunches.

It ends up being a close opening round due to Alexa’s very high workrate, but it is not enough for her to win the round as Anya edges her by using her experience and landing cleaner punches. During the break, Sabrina tells her fighter to calm down and relax as she needs to pace herself for the rest of the fight.
Round 2: Alexa is on the attack once again in the second round, but it looks like she is listening to her coach and not throwing punches as frantically as she did in the opening round. As a result, she is not giving as many openings to her opponent, which in return forces Anya to be a bit more aggressive herself. Right after the minute mark, Anya gets inside to land a couple of hooks to the body, but she eats a one-two combination on her way there. Then they both get the same idea as they simultaneously land a right hook to each other’s jaw. Looks like Anya got the worst of it though, she gets hit with another jab-straight combo to the top of her head as she starts backing away. As a result, Alexa gains the control of the center of the ring and doesn’t relinquish it until the end of the round. She also doesn’t make the mistake of attacking recklessly and instead keeps scoring with short combinations. Anya also finds the mark with single head and body shots for the rest of the round, but the debuting fighter ends up winning this one to tie the score. In between the rounds, Gillian tells her fighter to put more pressure on her opponent to capitalize on her inexperience.

Round 3: With the confidence she gained from the last round Alexa starts this one on the attack again as she quickly gets to the center of the ring to take control of it. Anya is using a defensive jab to keep her opponent away, but Alexa keeps coming forward with left and right hooks, forcing the more experienced fighter to block these attempts with her guard. She finds the mark with a couple of those attempts too, but the tides turn as she misses wide with a left hook and Anya counters with a one-two combination landing straight on Alexa’s nose. The newcomer doesn’t look happy with this new experience of getting hit on the nose as it is not something you can train for. She starts backing away, which gives Anya the opportunity to put more pressure on her opponent just like her coach asked her to do.

As Anya continues to press on with her attack, she constantly switches levels to pick apart the inexperienced Alexa’s defenses. Anya starts landing combination after combination as Alexa struggles to defend herself. Another stiff straight lands and gives Alexa a bloodied nose, while driving her back to the ropes. She tightens her guard up high to protect her face, leaving her body open for Anya to attack, which she does with a barrage of shovel hooks. The bell rings just in time to save Alexa from more punishment or a referee stoppage. Anya walks over to her corner with a smirk on her face as she thinks she got this fight in the bag.

Round 4: After a pep talk from her coach, Alexa shifts to a defensive approach in this round to not get blasted again. Anya looks relaxed as she takes her time, poking Alexa’s guard with jabs. Seeing that Alexa keeps her guard up high, Anya decides to put pressure on her by going to the body with a couple of hooks to the ribs. She switches targets again and goes for the face, but Alexa ducks under a lazy jab and lands a big overhand. She quickly follows it with a double jab to the face that forces the LMW fighter to step back. Anya fires off a one-two combo, but it only slows her opponent momentarily and then Alexa steps in with a right hook landing on the jaw. Looks like Anya didn’t expect any resistance in this round and got careless, so now she clinches with her opponent to slow her down. As they get separated, Alexa goes right back on the attack, not willing to give her opponent a moment to recover. It is now Anya’s turn to tighten up her guard, hoping to weather the storm. Actually her defense fares better and holds up for the most part, but Alexa still slips some good shots through.

At the end of the last round, it looked like the fight would be over at any minute. However, as the bell rings to signal the end of the fourth round, it is once again anyone’s fight with Alexa coming back to tie the score.

Round 5: Both fighters look fully focused now as they meet in the center and start to trade. After a few missed and blocked attempts, Anya is the first one to land a successful one-two combo and then Alexa quickly replies with a couple of hooks to the ribs. Alexa tries to go for the body again, but ATJ gives her a forearm push and lands an uppercut to the chin followed by a left hook to the ribs and a right one to the jaw. Alexa stumbles backwards and Anya steps in with a straight to the nose, which starts bleeding again. This time, Alexa clinches with her opponent to save herself from a knockdown. Another round, another momentum swing!

The referee separates them and Alexa switches to a defensive stance as Anya starts chasing her, throwing short combinations to keep the pressure up. Alexa tries to make a surprise attack to break the pressure as she steps forward with a one-two combo up top, but it turns out to be a mistake as Anya ducks down to avoid them and then comes back up with a huge counter hook to the jaw. Alexa is unsteady on her feet again and another hook almost knocks her down. Looks like she is about to fall as she takes a step forward, so she tries to clinch with Anya again out of desperation, but ATJ steps aside and lands a big uppercut! Alexa goes down hard face first to the canvas! Anya walks over to the neutral corner, mouthing “it is over” to the fans as the referee begins the count. 1…2…3… Alexa is still lying face down on the canvas, slowly starting to move 4…5… she starts pushing herself off the canvas 7…8… she gets on all fours, but she still looks a bit dizzy 9…10! She can’t get back up in time and falls face down to the canvas again as the count passes her by! It is all over!

Official Result: Winner via KO in round 5, Anya Taylor-Joy!

Post-Fight: Anya walks over to her defeated opponent and plants her foot on Alexa’s back. As Alexa moans, Anya bends down and says “I hope this teaches you not to become a bully. Welcome to the FCBA!” Sabrina quickly comes over and tells Anya to leave her fighter alone. As Anya stands there with a smirk on her face, Gillian comes and pulls her away before things can get out of hand and then hugs her fighter to congratulate her. On the other side, Alexa needs a moment to recover before she is helped back on her feet and gets cleared by the medical staff. She then leaves the ring with her coach Sabrina’s help.

At the center of the ring, Anya gets her hands raised by the referee and then she takes the mic. “I must say that she fought better than I expected, but in the end, I dealt with this threat before it became a problem. I hope this lesson sets her on the right path. I will be dealing with the bigger problem next! Priyanka… it is payback time!” Anya ends her post-fight remarks with a message to Priyanka Chopra and leaves the ring with Gillian.

Back to back wins for Anya as she builds a bit of momentum, which she failed to do last year. However, we will have to wait for her next fight to make a better judgment about her improvement. As for Alexa, she showed that she can hit hard, but she clearly needs more experience to be competitive at this level.
