Intro:
Experience versus raw power here as Hilary Rhoda's quest for her fiftieth win comes against English model Iskra Lawrence. Who is seeking to keep winning after starting her year off by clubbing the lights out of Daphne Groeneveld.
The fighters both posted to their social media accounts to build up the fight. Hilary telling her fans "Iskra Lawrence is my next opponent and boy have I got my hands full. I won't disrespect her as I know she is arguably the hardest hitter in the division. But she lacks the skills I have developed and I believe the stamina to really reach the level I have in my career. So come on win number 50!"
While Iskra replied when seeing the post "oh thank you for the praise... Well till you said I was just a hard hitter. Trust me once that bell rings you will see I am more then one dimensional. Just because I am not some size zero wimp doesn't mean I can't go for the full ten rounds. I will go as long as needed till I knock you out." A little fiery between the two gorgeous models.
Fight night comes with first out onto the aisle is Hilary. She has her coach Rebecca Romijn to her right. Hilary walking to the ring looking serious. Not taking her eyes off the ring as she knows she is in for a rough night if she isn't at her best. She soon climbs into the ring wearing a black sports bra, matching trunks and shoes, white gloves, while her hair is braided. She taps the top turnbuckle in her corner with her gloves as she barks "come on!" To herself.
Now here comes Iskra with her coach following her. She bangs her white gloves together as she walks down the ring with purpose. An ice cold expression as she means business too. She soon enough climbs into the ring wearing a white sports bra, matching trunks and shoes, hair tied into a ponytail. She bounces on her toes with a light tap of her cheeks to get herself set for this fight.
The referee brings both to the middle of the ring. Hilary the more lean muscle of the two. Iskra big and powerful as she flexes her arms to show Hilary the guns she carries. They do touch gloves without any incident. Though it isn't a friendly touch. Before jogging back over to their corners. Ready for the bell to ring to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
Out they come with Hilary looking to use her height early. Jabbing and moving away from Iskra. But it isn't too long before Iskra lands her own stiff jab. Driving it between the gloves of Hilary to knock her head back. Just missing with a right hook as the American gets her head out the way in time. Moving back to range as Iskra stalks after her. Both trying to gain a firm hold on the action as they fight around the ring.
A straight catches Hilary under her chin. Knocking her back a step as Iskra drives forwards. Bashing Hilary to the body as she forces her into a neutral corner. Mauling at the body of Hilary, who responds by pulling her into a front headlock. Referee needed to split them apart. Hilary moving out the corner first chance she gets as Iskra bangs her gloves together looking keen to get them back on Hilary.
Stepping after Hilary again. Iskra takes some stiff punches around her forehead to knock her own head back. Managing to crowd Hilary against a corner though after landing a sharp right to the chest of the former champion. Making Hilary hiss out but try to fight her way back out the corner. There's a bit of a grandstand finish to the round before the bell rings. Strong start for the powerful Iskra.
Round 2:
Stepping back out to engage. Hilary doubling up her jab now as she sticks and moves. Not looking too happy when she gets hit. Especially around her chest by Iskra. Who is just missing with her bigger punches. Allowing Rhoda to spot counter punching opportunities as the opening minute passes by.
Hilary lands a straight into the face of Iskra to knock her head back. Stepping in with a further left hook/straight combo to push back the beautiful blonde to the outside part of the ring. Iskra covering up more tightly. Not exchanging as much as Hilary looks to land combos. Several punches are blocked on the gloves and arms of Lawrence, but the ones that get through knocking back the head of the English fighter.
But Iskra catches Hilary with a left hook when her opponents right fist dips. Iskra pressing right into Hilary, fighting on the inside as now Rhoda is the one covering up more. Driving Hilary to the ropes across from where they were moments ago. The bell soon rings with Hilary having a better round, still she got a swift reminder of how dangerous Iskra can be with that one left hook.
Round 3:
Engaging around the center of the ring. Hilary is landing some crisp punches to the cheeks of her foe. She is taking some heavy punches back around her face when Iskra spots a chance to fire back. There's a few scruffy moments as Hilary holds onto Iskra when the powerhouse tries to drive through her. A few hints of frustration from Lawrence as she can be heard hissing at Rhoda.
Into the second minute. A straight lands under the chin of Hilary. Driving her onto her heels as Iskra steps in after it with a sweeping left hook. Hilary stumbles two steps to her left. ISKRA THEN LANDS A RIGHT HOOK THAT SENDS HILARY ONTO HER BACK!
Iskra raising her right arm in the air to cheers from her supporters. Walking to the neutral corner with a smile. 1...2...3.. there's blood on the bottom lip of Hilary where that last hook opened a cut on it. 4...5.. Hilary pushing to all fours after turning over her left side. 6...7....8.. Hilary beats the count with a shake of her head to clear any fog she has in her head. Raising her gloves and nodding that she wants to fight on.
The referee waves them to fight on. With Iskra looking to close the gap earlier. Hilary showing her experience to hold and hit Iskra around her ears, which earns her a warning from the referee. Iskra not happy either as she nearly pushes Hilary through the top and middle rope at one point. The round comes to an end with Iskra scoring the big knockdown but looking annoyed at the stalling tactics from her opponent to kill her momentum in the final minute.
Round 4:
Understandably Hilary not looking too pleased when her lips are being hit by Iskra. Who is looking to drive back the American early on. Hilary showing good footwork with a solid one/two combo to keep Iskra from overrunning her. Still Hilary is giving up ground around the ring. Needing to clinch when Iskra drives her into a corner.
After the opening minute of this round. Hilary catches Iskra after the latter misses with a left hook. A counter straight lands on the left eye of Iskra to make her hiss out. A left hook then follows to turn the head of the English lass. Hilary starting to put her punches back together. Snapping back the head of Iskra as she takes hold of the center of the ring.
Both are groaning out when being hit. Cheeks reddening up with Hilary having blood trickling onto her chin. While Iskra's left eye is looking puffy. Iskra can't get enough time to load up on her punches. Hilary catching Iskra with a short right hook on her eye again. The round soon comes to an end. Both staring hard at each other before they return to their corners. Showing the intensity of the fight as they sit on their stools being patched up.
Round 5:
Exchanging around the middle of the ring. Iskra getting caught around her cheeks towards her left eye. Forcing Iskra to lift her glove up to protect that eye. She is swinging in power punches. Hilary getting hit with a few solid punches to make her retreat back and reset. Both staring hard at each other from behind their guards as they try to win control of the action.
Second minute sees Iskra miss with a left hook. Getting caught with a counter right into the eye of Iskra to make her cry out. As Iskra backs up with her left rubbing her left eye. Hilary lands an uppercut to rock Iskra onto her heels. HILARY POUNDING AWAY AS ISKRA TRIES TO FEND HER OFF! A LEFT HOOK AROUND THE TEMPLE OF LAWRENCE SENDS HER DOWN TO HER LEFT SIDE!
Taking a deep breath before heading to the neutral corner. Hilary looks a little relieved to have put down the hard hitter. 1....2....3... Iskra rolls to her back with her left eye clearly swollen. 4....5... Iskra kicks the canvas with her right foot. Shaking her head in frustration. 6...7.. Iskra trying to push herself up. 8...9... But Iskra slips with her right hand when she tries to get up. Slipping back to her backside. 10 getting counted out!

After:
That's win number fifty for Hilary as she raises her arms in the air. Cheeks marker up and a little blood dripped from her bottom lip onto her chest. She walks back to her corner to get a hug from Rebecca. Admitting that Iskra had her a little when she was put down by her. Hilary coming back to win.
While Iskra is helped to her feet by her coach. Who helps to get her back to her corner onto her stool. She shakes her head as she stares at the canvas, annoyed at how things played out in the bout. Having possibly the victory in her grip and letting it slip.
Both women get patched up by their coaches. Exchanging a few looks from their stools. But they mostly stick to chatting to their coaches. Iskra being consoled by her coach, while Hilary and Rebecca are both in a good mood.
Up get both fighters to head to the middle of the ring for the final result to be announced. Hilary getting her left arm raised by the referee as Iskra shakes her head. When Hilary looks to give her a handshake. Iskra tries to wave her off. Which makes Hilary stare daggers at the blonde. Grabbing her left shoulder to turn her around. Iskra angrily pushes Hilary to her chest. Coaches and the referee get between them as they trade threats.
Iskra waves off Hilary before leaving the ring. Furious as she storms up the aisle to the locker rooms. Will this loss affect her going into the second round of the Diamond Boxing Tournament against Ireland Baldwin?
While in the ring Hilary cools off with Rebecca telling her to forget about Iskra. She poses for the cameras with her arms flexed. Eyes trying to hide a fury behind them. After that she steps out the ring with Rebecca. This might not be the last we see of these two sharing a ring together in their careers. |
