Karlie Kloss vs. Taylor Hill

(Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Battle of a couple of girls being touted as future welterweight champions a few years back. Kloss started her career with seven straight wins, including a huge TKO over Amanda Righetti, got a title shot in her eighth fight, lost it, and has been a below .500 fighter since. Hill's success above 130 never even reached that level. While Karlie managed a second title shot, Taylor's never had even one. After winning seven of her first eight fights, the brunette beauty got blasted by Righetti, then lost her next welter bout to Prinsloo and left the division for three years, finding success at lightweight, where she won the straps. She's back working some at welter now, but questions remain about her viability above 130. Karlie is among those asking them. "Taylor," says the taller brunette, "Should stay at lightweight. She doesn't have what it takes up here, as I'm about to demonstrate."

"I can win the title here," Hill insists. "And, Karlie's just the next roadblock I'm going to shove out of my way."

ROUND ONE:

Taylor begins the removal of said roadblock. Karlie, at nearly 6'2" has the reach advantage against even a girl as long as Hill, but, despite being used to having that edge in length, the younger brunette handles the geometry perfectly, much to Karlie's dismay. Kloss wants to work at gunnery range here, get that long left on, drop hard rights behind it. Hill's more than willing to box with, but she's angling very well, getting to her spots, getting off in combination, forcing Kloss to the defensive again and again. Karlie's frustrations mounting as the round goes on. She's not able to get much done and Taylor's building herself a solid lead. Final seconds see Hill SNAP Kloss' head back with a NASTY right hand that punctuates a big first for the Front Streeter, who takes it wide and grabs the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Second begins the way the first ended, with Taylor controlling the geometry as Karlie tries to enforce the distance she wants with that long left hand. BOOM! Right hand KLOSS and Hill is HURT! Karlie times a PERFECT one-two and sends Taylor reeling backward! Taller brunette lets the hands go, driving her rival up against the ropes and having at her! It's brilliant stuff from Kloss, who's setting up her punches perfectly, banging away at the younger woman, who's pinned to the cables in a tight earmuff just trying to ride this thing out. Body is on sale, but Karlie's not buying. She wants to FINISH here, and with the ref looking in closely, she's very close to doing so. Somehow, though, Taylor rides it out and makes it to the bell. When it rings, however, Karlie's taken it wide and evened things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Kloss walking Hill down. Taylor's legs are still wobbly and this allows the taller woman to line her up with that left hand and drop big rights on her behind them. Hill on the defensive, playing tor time here, time Kloss is determined NOT to give her. Older brunette CLINICAL, picking Taylor apart, punishing her, working her around the ring, and, finally, about two minutes in, trapping her on the ropes again. It's grim stuff for the younger woman, but she does manage to land some in counter, even against the cables. That keeps the referee at bay, but it doesn't do her any good on the scorecards, where Karlie continues building up a lead, all while piling up punishment that's going to have an effect as the fight goes on. Taylor again survives the round, but, when the bell rings, Karlie has another wide round and a 29-28 lead.

ROUND FOUR:

Hill moving better and it makes a difference, partly because Karlie's still determined to finish. Kloss working forward behind the jab, but she can't get Taylor lined up. Instead, the younger brunette's angling, staying off square, replaying that first round in which she had so much success. Kloss gets taken to the proverbial woodshed for two full minutes before she settles down, realizes the finish isn't coming right now, and gets back to range where she starts boxing again. Result is a very even final minute that sees both fighters land some nice combinations and a few power blows, including a VERY sharp shot from Karlie right before the bell. But, all of that is much too late for Kloss to make up the stagger, and Taylor takes the round wide to even things at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Ranged boxing now, with both fighters willing to work on these terms. Kloss getting that loooonnngggg left on target, following with solid right hands. Hill trying to work the angles, offset the reach, having moments, but not enough of them. Kloss is outboxing Hill for the first time all night. She's got everything working now, in perfect rhythm, and it's helping the older brunette to build a solid lead. Taylor having her moments. She's getting to spots and getting off, but it's just not enough to offset the work Kloss is doing. Instead, Karlie continues to have the better of things right into the final seconds when Hill lands a SCINTILLATING right hand counter that WOBBLES KLOSS! Unfortunately for Taylor, the bell rings before she can do any damage. It's Karlie and wide in the fifth to lead 48-47 at half, but the question is, how quickly can Kloss shake the cobwebs.

ROUND SIX:

The answer is, "not quickly enough". Kloss still iffy-legged as the round starts, and Taylor notices immediately. Now, Hill's walking forward behind that left jab, putting Karlie into retreat. Kloss keeping the hands up, countering in spots, looking dangerous with some of those counters. But, Taylor is damning any and all torpedoes here, determined to take the fight to the older woman and doing so very, very well. Karlie manages to stay off the ropes and land a few of those sharp counters, but, that's about all she can do, as Hill keeps the pressure on from bell to bell, sitting down on punches, piling up the punishment, and scoring plenty of points along the way. When the bell finally rings, Hill's taken it wide and we are all even at 57 after six action-packed rounds.

ROUND SEVEN:

Hill pressing. Kloss giving ground. Karlie countering a bit better this frame, but she's still being forced to the defensive by Taylor's aggression. Hill VERY effective coming forward, and it's all because of that accurate left. She's popping it in Kloss' face, then following on with solid right hands, keeping Karlie mostly on the back fo...BOOM! Right hand, TAYLOR and DOWN GOES KLOSS! Hill with a perfectly timed and placed straight right and Karlie is blown to her back! Taylor to a neutral corner. Ref begins counting down on Kloss. Karlie, eyes closed, shaking her head back and forth. Finally opens the orbs to stare at the ref as he reaches six. And, DRAPES AN ARM ACROSS THE EYES. It's OVER. Karlie can't get off her back and it's OVER! And your winner by KO7 is Taylor Hill!

AFTER:

Hill clearly pumped after a second-straight win over a Top 40 welter. "I TOLD you," the brunette beauty says with a gorgeous smile. "I can win up here. I can win the title here. Just keep giving me opportunities, and watch what happens!"
