Krysten Ritter vs. Sophie Turner

(Results: Lookout / Words: Queens)
Krysten:

(41, 5’9”, 128lbs, 2:7 FCBA, Queens of Absolution)
Sophie Turner:

(26, 5’9”, 23:15 FCBA, Foxfire Boxing)

BEFORE:

A match completely out of left field, no one expected these two to cross paths anytime soon but it seems Zooey Deschanel may have pulled some strings as Krysten Ritter wanted a truly challenging opponent. At the pre-fight presser everything went fairly smoothly.

With Deschanel in the room it seemed like both sides were on their best behavior - especially after her interview on “Late Night Before the Bell.”
“I feel Sophie will pose a challenge - win or lose, she’s a prized lightweight of Foxfire Boxing,” Krysten stated. Continuing, “I respect the young woman for her accomplishments and that’s why I asked for her.”

“Thank you Krysten, I am always looking for new challenges as well although ordinarily I want to prove I’m the best at my age level I am more than happy to participate in a match with you,” Sophie was content with saying.

Later, in the ring, both girls are dressed for battle. Turner was wearing a navy blue bikini bra with straps, matching gloves and boots, and matching tights. Ritter on the other hand adorned a strapless black bikini bra, matching gloves with “QUEENS” in gold, matching boots, and also matching tights. Sophie’s hair was in a ponytail while Krysten’s hair was loose and free flowing.

Tense looks from both fighters as the referee goes over the instructions and both women tap gloves before heading back.

The match is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division and HERE WE GO!

Round 01:

Out of the gate, both girls are cautious of the other. Neither with any real height advantage although if the rumors are to be believed, Krysten can hit well above her weight which includes her participation in the welterweight division. Turner, cautious of this, doesn’t want to get into a direct confrontation at the start. Sophie instead goes for jabs to the arms to try and weaken the ability of Ritter to deliver heavy blows but is soon knocked back by one of those heavy blows SLAMMED right into her taut tummy which pushed her back several steps.

Krysten taking the initiative, closed the pocket and both girls get to work on each other, neither letting their high guard down allowing damage to pile up downstairs. As the stanza came to a close however, Krysten deflected two incoming jabs and delivered DEEP punches into Sophie’s tummy that took her breath away.

With the stanza at an end, Krysten won the round on points, close - for her more power hitting moves.

Round 02:

Sophie, a bit more comfortable entering round two settled into a rhythm of entering the pocket, delivering jabs to Krysten’s arms, and escaping before any retaliatory strike could occur. For Krysten on the other hand, annoyed at Turner’s tactics, she got in a few jabs of her own into Sophie’s ribs and face. The second stanza was relatively calm compared to the first.

Sophie was able to rack up more points than Krysten and took the round, close.

Round 03:

With Krysten and Sophie seemingly more comfortable with each other, as we enter the third stanza both girls come out far more aggressively. Turner moving more on technique versus Krysten on seemingly agility and power. As both girls meet, Ritter gets the upper hand through raw strength - working repeated blows to Sophie’s chin until Turner is finally able to get her gloves up to block and then starts working downstairs with BIG thumping hooks to churn up Sophie’s belly and ribs. This looks like it’s going to be a one sided stanza but Sophie, who couldn’t hold a direct defense against Krysten fights back with Ritter’s own tactic of hooks to the chin until she couldn’t take it anymore and had to get her gloves up to cover her face and begun delivering hooks to Krysten’s taut tummy and ribs.

As we entered the third minute, it was becoming evident that both girls were throwing at least somewhat of what they got at each other and backing each jab, hook, and uppercut with one of their own - countering each other blow by blow with unequal force but for what Sophie lacked in raw power she made up for by getting two for every one. There was no one solid jab or hook to interrupt this war between the two girls and as the stanza wound down, both girls were glistening sweat as the heat and exercise from being next to each other like that waned on them.

The judges have to deliberate but at the end of the round, it is a draw!

Round 04:

Both women bruised, their respective corners trying to ice them down before the fourth, as time runs short. Into the fourth round Sophie is still having trouble dealing with Krysten’s strength but she isn’t having trouble countering. On the other hand, Ritter may be landing blow after blow but with Turner countering her at every turn, neither was going to get a knockout hit in. Hook after hook landed in Sophie’s belly followed by a haymaker she could not counter to the left temple knocked her back a few steps.

That was all that was needed as the round came to an end close in Krysten’s favor.

Round 05:

Halfway through now and surprisingly both girls aren’t giving way. Sure, there are probably pundits that would have said this match would not have made it this far. Again, as both girls meet in the middle the round started playing out the same - Krysten had the raw strength and was more than agile enough but Sophie had the technique. It was a war of attrition as both girls landed hooks to the body. Sophie wanting to break the cycle, threw all her weight into a punch that PLUNGED into the solar plexus of Krysten and wide-eyed her. A hook to the chin afterwards was all it took to send Ritter to the canvas.

Sophie made her way to a neutral corner and the ref started counting during minute two. 1, 2, 3, 4… Krysten was cradling her stomach but rolled onto her knees; 5, 6, 7… Krysten straightened up and it looked like the match was going to go on; 8, 9, 10… Ritter collapsed on her tummy and was out!

Official Decision: Winner by KO5, Sophie Turner!

AFTER:

Speaking to “Before the Bell: Inside Edition” Sophie Turner remarked in the postfight, “Krysten has serious strength and stamina that most women don’t have in this game. It didn’t look good at times, especially due to her overwhelming strength where I don’t even know where she keeps it, but in the end I was fortunate enough to hit her in all the right places to take her out.”

Later, speaking to Mark Lopez of Insider Edition, Krysten admitted that Sophie was a “decent opponent” and “if it wasn’t for her hitting me in the right spots at the right time, this match could have played out very differently.”

As to the rumors of Zooey Deschanel setting up this match on Krysten’s request and whether or not she’s happy she did, Deschanel did not make any comments leaving many to wonder.
