Before: Maddie coming up short in a de facto #1 contender bout to end the year, looking to jump back into the title picture by taking out a former champion and it’s Olivia in the crosshairs! “She’s had her time, we’re going to be showing her where her place is, and it’s behind us!”

Olivia coming back: “I’m a two-time champion, which is two more than every flyweight in her stable has managed! It’s time to show her just where she sits in this division!”

Maddie wearing a green bandeau bikini, blue gloves, her dirty blonde hair in a tight high ponytail as she bounces up and down in her corner. Olivia in a brown and black tiger stripe, black gloves, hair up in a battle bun.

R1: Little women step-to, get to choppin'. Maddie elbows in, hands up - dipping side to side with short, hacking strokes from either hand, beating Olivia about head/shoulders. Holt bending into short, hacking rights to head - both women bouncing hard punches off the other. Fighters typically falling in after exchanging a few blockbusters, Ziegler riding her left hand behind Olivia's head, tugging her in close for ref's break. Down the stretch, Maddie using that left hand head-control technique when Olivia shocks the brunette a ripping right across the belly, doubling it into a vicious right uppercut: Ziegler's right leg swings out to the side, causing her to stagger backwards a couple of steps, Holt able to step-in a clubbing hook across chops to steal the round late.

R2: Same bashing give-and-take early - both women getting their backs into brutal, compact power shots from either side. Maddie changing tack midway through - punching her jab to Olivia's face to prep; taking a little counter-clockwise step; jabbing again to make sure, then dropping in the hot right cross. Holt getting tagged as she's turning-with, Maddie able to use angles, get some murderous looks at blonde's chin - Olivia's legs passing a series of tests, though blonde's wobbly-butt at bell.

R3: Maddie breaks out the jab - spitting out poke while keeping the right hand at temple...she's scoot-stepping in close, chopping-righty from the high angle, engaging Olivia inside blonde's jab-range. Holt on her back foot much of the round, but feeding Ziegler a useful right uppercut from that posture...balance of trade grows wider in Maddie's favour however as she's coming forward. Final minute sees Olivia hopping to her right along the perimeter, trading space for time as Ziegler wins back-to-back rounds.

R4: Olivia stepping in off her own jab, chopping short-righty, finishing up with her head in close to Maddie's face, leads to more of a bump-and-slug close-quarters fight as girls work-and-get-out. During an early engagement, Ziegler's legs give a shimmy after she eats a chopping right, brunette momentarily wobbly-butt, tying up rangy around Holt's elbows. After that, Olivia relentless in pursuit: jabbing Maddie to ropes; carrying thick right hands to breadbasket; clobbering away on biceps/shoulders; jerking compact, inside-uppies, then bodying up to smother receipts. Ziegler increasingly shabby under the weight of her foe - she's pushing on Holt, tying her up, just bogging down the assault as blonde imposes will.

R5: Maddie standing her ground, triggering the heavy left jab off the shoulder as Olivia's coming, trying to walk her blonde into chin-checking right crosses. Holt aware of the traps being set, but she's intent on breaking Ziegler down through front-door pressure, taking the risks to do so. Maddie worked in stages to ropes: once there, Olivia able to work methodical - cycle the jab in over and over from the shoulder; feed straight-stamping, palm-down right hands to breasts/belly - blonde just putting her back into these bashing wallops. Maddie visibly dismayed by the thudding patience of the assault, Holt never reckless, just slamming away righty every few seconds after prepping with the jab - reducing her girl in the pocket. Ziegler unable to break-out, any attempt to slide to the side or push forward met with holt bodying up and muscling brunette's back deep into ropes. Bell: Olivia pushing up off Maddie all sweaty big-girl, regaining the swagger she'd lost to Zeigler's slamming right hands earlier in the night.

R6: Maddie bull-rushing Olivia, wrapping her up chest to chest, driving her ropeside. Holt wrestling to turn Ziegler in the grasp, bodying HER to ropes...primeval struggle for ropeside supremacy. Short, inside punching evolves from the scrum - fighters scrubbing hairlines, digging right hands at offending guts, trying to fit tight hooks onto chins to finish. Withering brutality all along the ropes - crowd squealing as both fighters absorb hellish clout when suddenly, Olivia lays back sleepy from a trio of close-cropped hooks to chin! Maddie steps-with, sweeps the left uppercut through the strike-zone, clouting underneath Holt's chin, then turns over a bashing hook across the jaw to get blonde staggering-left into corner! OH she catches ‘Livy a fat right hand on the face, smashing blonde's head back, dropping her hands to her lap! Short, muscular clouts slamming onto drowsy face - crowd up and screaming AND HOLT GOES DOWN! Olivia dropping forward to knees-and-forearms, her forehead on canvas as Maddie shrieks, leaps away! Holt straightening up onto all fours - rickety and trembling...she's left her mouthpiece on the canvas, dimly fumbling for it with her gloves. IT'S OVER! 10 count passes Olivia by as she's obsessed with picking up her gumshield - she's basically out on her knees, functioning on autopilot. KO6 as Maddie remains in the thick of the most dominant flyweight stable’s hunt for its first title!

After: Maddie notching her first win over a former champion, becoming the third flyweight born in the 21st century to nail down a title-ready designation. She’s fallen to both Brown and Ortega, is this enough for a rematch?
