Abigail Breslin vs Vanessa Hudgens

(Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Breslin a girl who was on quite the run until about six months ago. She was on enough of a roll then to get a shot at the JMD title. But, Abigail fell to Bella Thorne in that bout and has lost three of four since, including a defeat at the hands of struggling Hayley Williams. But, the busty blonde comes into this one with plenty of confidence. "Yeah, I've hit a bit of a rough patch," she admits, "But, everyone knows I can beat top-level girls. I've proven it. I just need to get back on track. And, that's exactly what I'm going to do tonight."

Abigail's confidence, of course, is matched by 'Nessa's, because confidence is one of MANY things Ms. Hudgens is never lacking. "Breslin would do well to worry about tracks tonight. Because, she's STANDING on the tracks, and The Hudgens Express is about to come through town."

ROUND ONE:

Breslin's looking to come forward, close, bang. No surprise there. The surprise is, 'Nessa lets her do it. Rather than use the legs, stick and move, brunette stands in front of the blonde and trades. And, it does NOT go well. Almost immediately, Abigail has the older woman in retreat, the weight of shot forcing her backward. And, still, Hudgens doesn't do much moving. She's content to stand in front of her rival, willing to take a punch to give one. And, the younger woman is more than happy to fight on these terms. She's getting the better of it, and in a big way, while the brunette, ignoring the pleas of her corner to get moving, get off square, is taking a licking. 'Nessa is never hurt, but she's definitely feeling her rival's power right to the bell. When it rings, it's Breslin wide to grab the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Hudgens hears it in the corner, shrugs it off, but gets the feet moving to start the second. NOW we're seeing the Vanessa Hudgens we expected to see. She's on her bicycle, jabbing, circling, stopping to pop, then slipping away before the younger blonde can do anything more than fire back an occasional counter. Breslin begins to stalk, move the feet, try to cut the ring. But, try as she might, she can't manage to slow down 'Nessa, who's ranging around the ring, dictating pace, snapping that jab in Abigail's face over and over again, piling up points, all the while frustrating her opponent who continues to work hard to bring her to the kind of pitched battles we saw in the first. But, Breslin can't do it. The entire round is fought on 'Nessa's terms, which is a recipe for a round that goes wide to the brunette to even things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

'Nessa on the move. Breslin stalking. Abigail having a little more success cutting the ring this time, though. She's able to slow down the brunette at times, force her into exchanges, and, when she can, just like in the opening stanza, the blonde gets the better of things, forcing Hudgens back, punishing her to head and body. But, when Vanessa is able to slip away to open canvas, it's a different fight, the one we saw in the second round, with Hudgens jabbing and moving, stopping for quick, accurate flurries that toss Abigail to the defensive, before getting out of Dodge before the younger woman can do much in the way of rejoinders. With both fighters getting some of their favored terms, the result is a close, hard-fought round. But, when the bell rings, for the second frame in a row, Hudgens takes the points and takes the lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Fourth begins with...BOOM! Out of nowhere, Abigail steps forward, cuts the ring, ROCKS 'NESSA WITH A RIGHT HAND! Hudgens wobbles, nearly goes down...and Breslin goes ALL IN! Blonde winging away with both hands and DOWN GOES HUDGENS AFTER A SHORT LEFT HOOK! Brunette on her back and sputtering as Abigail stomps to a neutral corner. Hudgens sits up at six, gets to her feet at nine. Ref thinks about it during the mandatory but waves on the blonde! Breslin ALL OVER a flat-footed 'Nessa, driving her into the ropes and SAVAGING the body, hooking ribs and midsection, then going upstairs to buffet the head back and forth as she hammers hooks off the high guard. Vanessa seems ready to go and the ref is on high alert, but, before either can happen, the bell rings. It's a huge 10-8 round for Abigail, who now leads 38-37.

ROUND FIVE:

Breslin looking to finish. She's walking Hudgens down behind the jab, sitting down on hard follow on rights. 'Nessa wobbly-legged, unable to get off square. She's playing defense and playing for time, keeping the guard high, willing to trade space for time. Veteran Vanessa staying off the ropes, but that's about the only good news. Her offensive output is limited to the odd counter, while the blonde piles up points and punishment. She's being denied the finisher, but she's effecting a very nice clean up, landing solid shot to both head and body. Late in the round, realizing the finish isn't coming, Breslin concentrates downstairs, working ribs and midsection, looking to get into 'Nessa's legs. At the bell, there's no doubt about it. It's Abigail wide and the blonde leads 48-46 at the half.

ROUND SIX:

Abigail still calling the tune. She's walking Vanessa down, just has she has the last two rounds, bringing that power to bear, punishing the older wom...BOOM! Right hand counter, HUDGENS! Oh, Vanessa walks Breslin into a BEAUTY of a right hand and Abigail is GOBSMACKED! Breslin on jelly legs as Hudgens lets the hands go, banging away, sending the wide-eyed blonde stumbling backward and then DROPPING HER WITH A STRAIGHT RIGHT HAND! It's another absolute beauty from 'Nessa and when it lands the Hall of Famer raises her hands in victory and DANCES to a neutral corner. Abigail is down on her back, eyes closed, unmoving, where she stays WELL past the count of ten. It's OVER! That quickly, it's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is Vanessa Hudgens!

AFTER:

Hudgens all smiles. "Yeah, I traded with her early," the brunette admits. "I wanted to FEEL her power, see if it was all it was cracked up to be. It WASN'T. I've been in with LOTS of girls who hit harder. Once I figured that out, I knew I could do what I wanted, and that's JUST what I did. Like SO many girls around here, she's just NOT in my league. It was just a matter of when I wanted to take her out of there. When I figured I'd gotten my work in, well. You saw. Out she went."
