Dove Cameron versus Billie Eilish
(Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)
BEFORE:
Lots of storylines for this fight, Eilish fighting on PPV for the first time, Cameron looking to rally from a loss earlier this month to 'Nessa, Billie returning to flyweight for the first time in nearly a year after four straight JMD fights, Dove looking to stop the run of another Front Street fly like she did Winter's, and Eilish's 19-fight winning streak put to the test. But, that's all noise, frankly. The real headline here is Billie looking to prove she's the real deal at flyweight against a girl who can make a strong argument for being the cream of the weight's crop all on the biggest stage there is. And, Dove is convinced the singer can't do it. "This girl is Winter, but not as good. And, you SAW how I disposed of Winter."
"I spent a LOT of time watching video of Dove and Ariel," says Billie with a hint of a smile, "And I don't think Cameron remembers that fight very well. And, when I'M done with her, she won't remember THIS fight AT ALL."
ROUND ONE:
Billie wants to get physical early, but the blonde former champion isn't having any. Dove's on the move, jabbing, circling, stopping to pop, getting right back on her bicycle. Eilish patient, stalking, working to cut the ring, but Cameron's seen all of that before and she knows JUST how to deal with it. The former champ's staying in open canvas, snapping that jab in Billie's face again and again, punishing her with quick, effective combinations, piling up points and punishment while making it all look plenty easy. If Eilish is frustrated, she isn't showing it. The brunette, a former dancer, is plenty athletic and she's moving well, staying after Dove, but Cameron's leading her a merry chase from bell to bell, and, when the final chime sounds ending the first, Cameron's taken the points wide and leads 10-9.
ROUND TWO:
Same again. Only Billie's starting to get the geometry down now. As athletic as Dove is, and she IS athletic, Billie can move with her. It's just a matter of figuring the angles, finding ways to cut the ring and bring Cameron to battle. And, in the second, the brunette does more of that. Oh, there are still plenty of times when Dove is out in open canvas bouncin' and misbehavin', but there are others when they're trading shots at middle distances or in the phone booth, and, while Dove holds her own on those terms, it's the younger woman who gets the better of those exchanges. Result is a good, two-way round, with Billie offsetting Dove's ranged work with her own offense in closer. At the bell, it's plenty narrow, but it's Eilish who grabs the stanza and evens things at 19.
ROUND THREE:
Both ladies now comfortable on these terms. Cameron legging, jabbing, but taking every opportunity to stop, let go a nice, accurate flurry, slip or block a rejoinder, and get right back moving again. Billie patient, looking to match footwork, slow Dove down, bring her to pitched battle. Sharp exchanges result when the brunette can do that, and, while nobody's hurt, everybody's feeling some of that leather. The one change in this round is Eilish working a little body, something she's well known to do, but hasn't done much of tonight to this point. Cameron responds in kind at times on the inside, hooking ribs and midsection. Add it all up and we have another close, two-way round, but, this time, it's the former champion who grabs the points, putting Dove back in front 29-28.
ROUND FOUR:
More good, two way stuff. Dove being Dove right now, using all her athleticism and boxing skills to great effect. She's getting the left on target as she works the jab-and-circle, forcing Billie to stalk. Eilish willing to do that, willing to take some of those jabs to get to middle distances or into Cameron's grill and bring her power to bear. When Billie cuts the ring, the brunette scores in bunches, working head-body-head, all while Dove bangs back and looks for an exit, slipping away to open ocean at the first opportunity. It's action-packed, fan pleasing stuff as blonde and brunette go at it with very little in it. Once again it's close throughout, and, once again, it's the more-experienced former champion who grabs the points close and extends her lead to 39-37.
ROUND FIVE:
Same again, Dove on the move, Billie looking to close that movement down and force exchanges at middle and short distances. First minute goes like that. Second goes differently. Eilish is able to cut the ring, bang away at Dove, trap her in a corner and let the hands go. Cameron all to the defensive with the hands high and the body on sale. Blonde isn't hurt, but she doesn't want to trade with Billie on these terms. So, Eilish starts buying ribs and midsection IN BULK, thumping away downstairs, forcing Dove to crouch and clinch. Billie levers, lands a SOLID right hook to the chin that shakes the former champion. Dove grabs hold, hangs on, forces a break, gets off the ropes. But, she's looking a little buzzed the rest of the round, and Eilish takes advantage, piling up points and punishment right to the bell. When it rings, the brunette's grabbed the round wide and cut Dove's lead to 48-47 at the half.
ROUND SIX:
Billie pressing the advantage now. She's walking Dove down behind the left hand. Cameron not moving as well as she had earlier and that's playing into what Eilish wants to do. The brunette's squaring the blonde up, backing her up with heavy leather. Dove not playing all defense, she's firing back when she can, but there's no question the younger woman's getting much the better of things at the moment. Cameron working hard to stay off the ropes, and managing to do that. At times, she's able to land some nice counters. But, Billie's willing to take those to land her own heavy shots to body and head. Late in the round, Eilish manages to pin Dove to the cables again and work body while the former champ clinches and tries to slip away. At the bell, there's no doubt. Billie. Wide. And we're even at 57.
ROUND SEVEN:
Dove back on the move now, jabbing and circling. Billie stepping forward to cut, getting physical, backing up the older blonde. Cameron tying up when Eilish gets inside, holding on, forcing breaks, then getting back to the war of movement. Younger woman's pursuit is relentless, however. She's determined to close and bang with the blonde, paying special attention to the body. Dove wrapping around the head now, doing anything she can to slow this down, but Billie's shoving off, levering, punching free. BOOM! Right hook, Eilish and DOVE IS STEPPIN' IN FENCE POST HOLES! Brunette immediately all in, letting the hands go and DOWN GOES CAMERON! Dove dropped to her back after a short right hook! Eilish to a neutral corner. Cameron rolling to her belly at six. Pushes to hands and knees at eight...and SINKS BACK TO THE CANVAS! It's OVER! The count passes Dove by and it's OVER! And your winner by KO7 is Billie Eilish!
AFTER:
Billie not even TRYING to play down the excitement of this one. No doubt the biggest win of her career and the biggest Front Street win at flyweight in four years. "She's really slick," Billie admits with a shake of the head. "Very quick. Smooth. Great boxer. Makes things tough on you in there. You can see it on video, but, until you're actually IN with her, you don't get it. But, I've got the power. And I know how to use it. I got into her, worked her body over, slowed her down, then took her a** out of there. And, that's all there was to that!" |
