Elettra Lamborghini vs Evangeline Lily

BEFORE:
Battle of hard-hitting brunette bantams sees Italian beauty Elettra looking to work her way out of a slump that's seen her lose three of four against Hall of Famer Evangeline, who's had a mirror-image last four, going 3-1. Both women are showing plenty of respect for their respective opponents in the pre-fight, but neither is lacking in confidence. "She's a Hall of Famer, yes," says Lamborghini. "One of the best ever at this weight. But. I am stronger, hit harder, and that will be the difference."
"She's dangerous," Vangie admits with a nod. "But, as she's about to find out, so am I."
ROUND ONE:
Some recon early in this one. Ladies probing forward, jabbing, angling, looking for weaknesses that can be exploited later. Italian a bit more aggressive, which is no surprise to anyone who's seen her fight before. Lily plays a bit more defense, slipping and dipping, working off the counter, where she's able to fill some open spaces with leather at times. Add it all up, and there's not much in it, though there's plenty of action as both fighters remain busy, if both remain pretty cautious during what's definitely an information-gathering stanza. Late in the round, Elettra lands a couple of hard shots to the head that back up the Canadian. The Italian follows with some solid body shots just before the bell. And, that's enough to push Lamborghini past Lily and garner her the points and the 10-9 lead in the narrowest of fashions.
ROUND TWO:
Another good, two-way round, but more action this time, as the recon is complete on both sides. Elettra wants to come forward behind the jab, back up the Canadian, drop hard rights on her. Lily, on the other hand, wants to play geometry, stay off square, get to middle distances and get off. And, while Lamborghini has moments of getting what she wants, forcing the Canadian back and landing some solid shot on her, she doesn't hurt Lily. Meanwhile, Vangie gets more of the terms she likes, and she takes advantage, putting punches together nicely, scoring points, and even landing some power shots that back up the Italian. Final seconds sees the sharpest exchange of the fight with Evangeline landing a NASTY right hand that sends Elettra stumbling backward at the bell. On the cards it's close to Lily, who's evened things at19.
ROUND THREE:
If there's any question about the effectiveness of that late right hand, it's answered early in the third. Lamborghini is more than a little buzzed, and the Hall of Famer takes full advantage of it. Now, it's Vangie who's stepping to, backing up the Italian, punishing her with hard right hands. Lily digs a little body, but just a little. She's trying to fully exploit this thing, take Elettra out of there. Lamborghini's listing, definitely in trouble, but the Italian is nothing if not sturdy. She's hanging on, sometimes literally, clinching every chance she gets. Late in the round, Vangie has the younger woman on the ropes and she's calling in artillery strikes. Elettra won't go, however, and the referee, while looking in closely, doesn't act before the bell finally rings. Shutout, Lily. And Vangie leads 29-28.
ROUND FOUR:
Lily pressing forward, backing up the Italian. Elettra engaging in a bit more of a fighting retreat this stanza, but she's still retreating as the Canadian sits down on punch...BOOM! Right hand, LAMBORGHINI and VANGIE IS HURT! A SCINTILLATING counter from Elettra and Lily is WOBBLY BUTT! And, now the Italian goes onto the offensive in a BIG way. She's lashing lusty leather at the Canadian, who finds herself giving up canvas in gobs until she's trapped against the cables and taking. Lamborghini staying patient, going body some, then back up to the head. She's looking to finish, but, mindful of Vangie's power, she's not getting sloppy. Instead, she's piling up punishment as the ref, again, looks in closely but stays his hand until the bell rings. It's Lambo and wide in the fourth, and we're even at 38.
ROUND FIVE:
Lamborghini pressing aggressively. She's stepping to the still wobbly Hall of Famer, punishing her with hard leather to both head and body. Vangie backing, covering, jabbing back here and there, trying to play for time to get those legs back under her. But, Elettra's not giving her time or space. She's ALL up in the Canadian's grill, thumping her upstairs and down, looking for the fini...BOOM! Right hand, Lamborghini and DOWN GOES VANGIE! Lilly BLASTED to her back by a straight right from the Italian, who moves quickly to a neutral corner to watch and wait. Lily rolls to her belly at six. Pushes to hands and knees at eight, but can get no farther! The count passes her by while she's still on all fours and it's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is Elettra Lamborghini!
AFTER:
Elettra's gotten a very nice "W" here and she knows it. "She's very, very tough," the Italian admits. "Hits very hard and can really take a punch. I hit her with shots that would have put three quarters of this division down and she took them and kept coming. But, eventually, I got her. I knew I would. And, I did. Because, I'm just too strong for her."
