Dove Cameron versus Jenna Ortega

BEFORE:

Battle of talented brunette flys sees Jenna, who started her career 5-0 and earned herself a title shot against Millie Bobby Brown, looking to bounce back from a loss in that bout against Dove, who's been in a bit of a post-title funk since losing the belts to Brec Bassinger just before Hallowe'en. But, Cameron's confident she's about to get back on track on this very evening. "Yeah, this girl got herself a title shot," says Dove with a smirk. "And, maybe she even deserved it. But, she's NOT in MY league, as she's about to find out."

"Dove," says Jenna, "Is yesterday's news. And, I'm going to throw her out like yesterday's newsPAPER. From, you know, back in Dove's day, when they HAD newspapers."

ROUND ONE:

Dove to work early. She's got some reach in this one and she uses it. Wants to box at range, and she's getting that done. Jenna wants to step in, get to middle distances, get off from there. She's able to do it some, but not all that often, because Cameron's getting it rolling. She's firing on all cylinders by mid-round, vintage Dove stuff that some of the best girls in this division have seen...and been unable to HANDLE. Jenna can't handle it, either. She's being preempted and touched up, taking fire from, seemingly, everywhere. Near the end of the round, she's covering up, trying to clinch, doing anything she can to slow this down, but the train keeps rolling right to the bell. When it rings, Cameron's got the round wide and Ortega's already starting to puff up a little.

ROUND TWO:

Dove a bit more aggressive now. She's got the younger woman on the back foot and wants to keep her there. She's stepping to some, backing Jenna up with hard sho...BOOM! Right hand counter, ORTEGA and DOVE is HURT! Cameron all WOBBLY BUTT as Ortega goes all in, battering the blonde back into the ropes and then just TEARING into the body, which Dove has left on sale. With a ring intelligence well beyond that of a 19-year-old with single-digit FCBA fights, Jenna refuses to be baited into head-hunting when her opponent is in a high, tight guard. Instead, she works ribs and midsection, bunching Cameron up late in the round. Final seconds see Dove, already pinking up, clinching as Jenna shoves off at the bell. IT's Ortega wide and we're even at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Jenna showing more of that intelligence. She's coming forward early, looking to finish this thing all while staying sound and making sure of consolidating her gains. There's nothing sloppy about anything the 19-year-old is doing. In fact, "clinical" is a pretty good description of what she does to a wobbly Dove, who's playing for time here. Cameron takes more punishment to the body, as Ortega looks for opportunities upstairs and takes full advantage of any of those that come her way. It's excellent stuff from the younger brunette, who builds up a huge lead through the first two and a half minutes. Dove's legs come around late, and she's able to get some things going offensively, but it's much too late to matter. At the bell, it's Ortega wide for the second round in a row, and Jenna leads 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Jenna still in control and still showing that preternatural ring presence. She's pushing, but not too hard, taking advantage of opportunities, but not forcing anything. Dove, meanwhile, is all the way back. She's moving better, getting punches put together, giving as good as she gets in spots. But, it's still Ortega who's able to get more done, building a small lead in the first real two-way round of the bout. Jenna's working some more body in spots, while Dove digs some shots to the ribs of the younger woman here and there. Late round sees Cameron rally a bit, looking to maybe steal the points, but Ortega's done enough for her lead to withstand that, so, when the bell sounds ending the round, it's Jenna, albeit narrowly, and the younger brunette has extended her lead to 39-37.

ROUND FIVE:

Same again. Ladies fighting on equal terms now, with Dove moving a little more, circling wider, looking to use the legs to get space. She wants to make Jenna work to close, and that's exactly what she's doing. But, Jenna's more than willing to DO that work. As the round goes on, though, we start to see more Vintage Dove. Cameron's getting it all working again. She's popping that jab in her rival's face, holding her with it, then dropping hard rights in behind it. Soon enough, Ortega is in reverse and Dove is walking her down behind the left hand. Final minute sees Cameron ALL OVER Jenna, who can't get anything going at all. She's backing and covering, backing and covering, while Dove gets off in combination again and again. At the bell, it's the former champ wide, but Jenna still leads 48-47 at the half.

ROUND SIX:

Cameron still rolling early. Ortega's got the guard high now, she's angling, looking for ways to get to spots and get off, but finding precious few of th...BOOM! Right hand, DOVE and JENNA IS HURT! Cameron lands a BRILLIANT straight right and Ortega's knees give a violent shimmy! And, the former champ is pushing ALL her chips into the middle of the table. She's winging away at the younger woman, punishing her to head and body, looking for the finisher. Jenna looking ready to go, hanging on desperately. BOOM! Right hand, Dove and DOWN GOES JENNA! Ortega blown to her back by a BOOMING right. Dove to a neutral corner. Ref counting down on Jenna, who's staring at him blankly as the numbers go higher...and she remains on her back staring well past the count of ten. It's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is Dove Cameron!

AFTER:

"I know what everyone was thinking," a hard-eyed Dove says. "What everyone was HOPING, more like. Well. I'd say I was SORRY, but one thing I LOVE is crushing hopes and dreams. Dove is FINE. Dove isn't back, because Dove didn't GO anywhere. I'm right here, where I'm going to stay, dominating this division for HISC. Good for us. Bad for YOU."
