Brooklyn Decker vs Danielle Herrington
(Lioness Club of America vs Global Boxing Syndicate) (68-29, 56 KO vs 9-7, 9 KO) Results: Lookout!; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: There's no denying Brooklyn Decker is taking things very easy in 2023 so far but she vows to pick up the schedule pace as we enter the summer months soon. On the other hand comes fellow swimsuit model Danielle Herrington who hasn't fully recovered from a mediocre performance at the Diamond Tournament a couple of years ago. Moreover a loss to lightweight-based Blake Lively proved to be even worse news for the Compton native who suddenly appears to be demoted into luxury journeywoman status among the otherwise crowded model pool in the 130+ lbs division. Accepting Decker's challenge is an extremely bold idea regardless of how light the blonde's training regime looks like these days.
Brooklyn Decker wears a green bikini set & silver gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a half-up ponytail. Danielle Herrington wears a blue bikini set & red gloves. Long black hair tied in a curled ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Round 1: Brooklyn sets the jabbing tone while Danielle seems unwilling to apply the early pressure which allows the blonde to land some crisp shots up the middle but the action is otherwise limited during the opening minute. Both models are happy with this lethargic pace until Brooklyn cracks a left hook on the nose that wobbles Danielle onto her heels almost too easily; she jumps into immediate recovery mission and throws several aerial bombs hoping to catch Decker with one of them alas the older woman is too experienced to fall into such a simple trap. Danielle continues to make progress if only she could land meaningful leather on target and gets busted in the chest with a late response instead. Brooklyn might be struggling with motivation here but she can still land the big punch to put the Compton girl on notice.
Rounds 2 & 3: Danielle channels her aggression in better fashion during the next six minutes but also profits from Brooklyn's laid back approach that could only be linked to her recent AHW struggles vs Hannah Ferguson. It's not like the GBS entourage paid much attention to that event but some pundits begin to question the blonde's strategy as she's unable to really impose herself in the ring versus a tricky opponent. Herrington's record only tells half of the story and the ebony model drives in more shots to the body making sure Decker is glued to the spot in the center of the ring before dropping a quick strike over the top. The hi-lo tactics carries Danielle during this period and even LCA coach Claudia Schiffer loses her patience when Brooklyn gets pounded back to the ropes late in the third where she simply soaks up unneccessary hits in the process.
Round 4: Brooklyn jumps into a slugging pressure and while she fails to tame Danielle with a proper series she forces the younger model to adjust her approach and the fight takes a more back & forth turn thereafter. The Compton native still has supreme faith in her execution and tries to stick to her own terms but some of these licks she takes full-on start to take it's toll and Decker manages to gradually outwork her before ripping a monster uppercut drive on the jugs that forces Herrington into immediate retreat. Ugh! Danielle didn't anticipate that switch and loses a late battle in this round however Brooklyn still doesn't follow through with enough wrath to drop her opponent into more trouble according to BLONDE! Magazine live ticker. You don't want to leave that door open for too long!
Round 5: Danielle wants to keep going and comes in hot to dominate the phone booth clash even though Brooklyn shows more intention to settle this back & forth dispute amid some long stares from coach Schiffer during the interval. Both models crank up the slugging volume and take several hard hits that gives the blonde a noticeable lump under the left eye but she squashes Danielle's lips in no-nonsense fashion herself. Herrington taunts the SI legend and decides to channel some JMDD action for the first time tonight yet she gets flushed out of the zone when Brooklyn slams a left cross on the chin and channels the head-hunting pursuit in the final minute. Danielle is forced to weave around on her feet and she just doesn't look that convincing when her defense is asked to carry her through the fight. Decker scores some late hits on target and verbally taunts the GBS corner at the bell.
Round 6: Brooklyn flies in to connect with Danielle's jugs before a quick uppercut switch on the chin slumps the younger model on her heels early on. Decker steps up to hammer immediate double on the temples and she opens Herrington wide enough to smack her with a vicious piledriver on the nose moments later. Danielle descends onto soft knees and her center of gravity shifts low enough the next punch doesn't even have to be a home run to knock her down... Decker bangs a left hook on the ear and DROPS THE FELLOW MODEL ONTO HER BACKSIDE!!! Uh-oh!! Danielle appears to be genuinely hurt by the experience as she takes it extremely long to make a recovery almost ignoring coach Daisy Fuentes' angry screams. She gets up at eight but wobbles over into the referee's arms who doesn't buy the cramp excuse. Danielle looks gimpy here and the fight is duly stopped amid a wild ovation from the audience! TKO6 Brooklyn Decker!!!
AFTER: Not exactly vintage performance from the former champion who chalks off fight #98 on her record and refuses to answer questions about that Sauna Rematch misery she endured last week: "No frickin' comment! I won the Best of 7 and nothing else matters! What happened in the sauna stays in the sauna..."
Over to Daisy Fuentes who still argues the stoppage was premature but her fighter just didn't protest the decision to indicate she took one nasty punch too many tonight after all. "We had this puppy in the bag. And it got away... grr... a huge waste but we got a back-up plan for next month already! Danielle deserves more attention and she'll get it one way or another!"
Official Result: Brooklyn Decker def. Danielle Herrington TKO6. |
