Danielle: 23 YO, 5’3 (1.60 m), 9-11-0, 9 KO since 2018, Foxfire Boxing
Before: Two young fighters who have had their struggles. Kelli Berglund has a single win to show for her first 6 fights, but she now is a member of the Queens of Absolution.
“That is going to make all the difference,” Kelli insists, “I have been getting more help than I ever have before. I feel I am beginning again and this time I will be doing it right!”
Danielle Rose Russell has had her struggles as well and readily admits: “I need a win and KeAlli Berglund is someone I should be able to beat. She may have no management, but I see only the same old Kelli.”
Kelli looks annoyed: “I wouldn’t be so sure of that.”
“And I wouldn’t be so sure I won’t get that win off of you,” Dani replies coolly.
On Fight Night, Kelli enters the ring and removes her robe. She is in a light purple one piece with dark purple gloves and boots (light purple laces). Blonde hair is pulled back in a battle braid. DRR enters the ring and remove her robe, she is a black one piece with red and gold appliques on it, her gloves and boots are red with gold laces. Dani’s dark hair is in a ponytail. Danielle looking very confident. Kelli looking defiant. However the ring instructions go smoothly. There is a curt tapping of gloves and they go to their corners. The bell rings.
R1: DRR attacks boldly, smacking Kelli to the mouth and cheekbones. Then she snaps her chin back with a quick right uppercut, Kelli knocked back on her heels, but as Dani comes after her, the blonde drives an answering straight right that catches DRR between the eyes. Now Dani is knocked back on her heels and Kelli is advancing. Sharp exchanges to the body in close with hooks into the ribs and belly. Stays even until late when Dani able to get in digging hooks that double Kelli up and then Dani closes with shots off Kelli’s skull. Result is a close round, but one that Danielle Rose Russell is able to pull out.
R2: Out they come again and this time we have a much more aggressive Kelli B. She feints an attack to the belly, but then Dani gets clouted hard to the jaw. Dani sent stumbling away, struggling to stay on her feet as Kelli gives chase and tries to hound her into the ropes. Dani managing to use her jab to stall the attack, but then Kelli hooks to the body in a sustained attack that nearly as DRR on the ropes. Bell sounds to end the round. DRR looks a bit unsteady getting back to her corner and Kelli B has won the round wide.
R3: Danielle tries to go back on the offensive as the new round begins. Opening punches going to Kelli’s head, then Dani adjusts her fire to Kelli’s body. Kelli takes up the body challenge again and there is rapid-fire series of punches that pound the straining bodies from juggs to belly and back again. Both fighters showing fierce determination as they struggle for domination. Then Dani suddenly slips in surprise chin rattling uppercuts that make Kelli stagger back. Kelli covering up as DRR flails away at Kelli’s flanks and shoulders to the bell. Rund is close, but DRR is given it on the judges’ cards.
R4: Danielle right back at Kelli to the body as the new round begins. Kelli pulling back from the battle of attrition, tries to circle around DRR. Dani moving with her, keeping her punches coming steadily at Kelli’s body. Kelli seems to be trying to protect her aching midsection and this leaves openings up high. Suddenly DRR lunges forward and brings a crashing right into Kelli’s jaw. Kelli’s head snaps around in a spray of sweat and blood. DOWN GOES KELLLI! Kelli Berglund lands on her side and lays there stunned. Dani trots to the neutral corner. Kelli struggling to rise as the referee counts and is able to regain her feet as the official reaches “NINE!” Fight resumes, but Kelli now in a tight defense. DRR given no chance to finish Kelli off before the bell sounds. However the knockdown assures her a wide win of the stanza.
R5: Danielle comes charging out of her corner. She looks ready to end this thing here and now, but Kelli is proving evasive. Kelli ducking, circling, and backing away. DRR can’t seem to box Kelli in and frustration seems to make her just charge the slippery blonde. KA-BOOM! Kelli Berglund looks to have been waiting for just such a ash move from Dani. As Dani comes in, her right pulled back, Kelli leaps forward and strikes a big right and then a big left that SMASH into Danielle’s jaw. AND DANIELLE CRASHES ON HER BACK! Now it is Kelli Berglund who trot to the neutral corner while her opponent struggles to beat the count. Dani does seem to shake off the punches and makes it up by “EIGHT!” As the referee waves Kelli back in, Dani defiantly goes out to meet her. DRR going for Kelli’s head, but Kelli blocks the right with hr shoulder then drives her own right into Dani’s belly. DRR is jackknifed by the blow and blunders backwards into the ropes. Kelli attacks and drives Dani along the ropes with one head shot after another. Dani somehow still on her feet, but arms have ropped to her sides and THE REF JUMPS IN! IT”S OVER!
KELLI BERGLUND HAS HER SECOND CAREER WN WITH A TKO5 OVER DANIELLE ROSE RUSSELL!
After: “Oh, that felt so good, it has been a hard road but I now have my 2nd victory and, let me assure everyone, there wiil now be many more to come!” An excited Kelli Berglund tells reports after the bout.
Danielle Rose Russell not available for comment, but Foxfire spokesperson Beth Harnois says: “This was a bitter disappointment. Dani thought she had Kelli ready to go and, looking back, she seemed to get reckless. Kelli still had fight left in her and she proved that. Dani will just have to put this behind her and move on.”
Fight goes to show that it never pays to get over-confident in the ring. It’s easy to why Danielle Russell thought she had the fight wrapped up after that R4 knockdown, but Kelli Berglund came back and taught her a painful (in more ways than one) lesson. Big morale boosting win for Kelli, but we’ll have to see if she can build on it. Meanwhile Dani R is the one left to find a way out of her current slump. Still, it was an entertaining fight with plenty of action while it lasted. |
