Results: Lookout Writing: Archer
Chloe: 32 YO, 5’5 ¾ (1.67 m), 56-7-0, 55 KO since 2013, Front Street Stable
Melissa: 34 YO, 5;7 (1.70 m), 15-20-0, 15 KO since 2015 Pretty Little Punchers
Before: Chloe Bennet cruising into her third fight of 2023 with a 2-0 record and sounding ready to add to it.
“Melissa should be a good challenge,” Chloe says tactfully, but then adds: “She hasn’t been doing to well lately, has she? Now don’t look at me like that Missy, I’m just saying what is plain to anyone who has read your record. You’re on a 4 fight losing streak. I am not taking you for granted, but I am not going to be the one you break the streak against.”
“I am very much aware of my record, thank you very much,” Melissa says tersely. “I could mention that SOME people think you FS girls have used our Asylum fights to fatten your records, but I wouldn’t do something that petty.”
Now Chloe scowls: “Of course you wouldn’t because you know that is a gross distortion of the truth. My record and all my sister FS records are fair and honest.”
“If you say so,” Melissa says, looking pleased at having riled Chloe up.
“Well, I do! And you are going to regret bringing it up,” Chloe sad menacingly.
“I doubt that,” Melissa sniffed. “See you I the ring.”
“Oh you most certainly will!” growled Chloe.
On fight night. The ill-will was still evident as the two stood facing each other in the ring with daggers-drawn looks in their eyes. Chloe in an orange bikini with black trim, black gloves and boots with orange lacings hair pulled back in a simple ponytail. Melissa in a shimmering purple one piece with matching boots and gloves hair in a French braid down her back. The ring instructions are tense, but gotten through. There is sharp “tap” of the gloves beforethe two fighters go to their corners. Then the bell rings.,
R1: Melissa gets right to work on Chloe’s head with quick blows as she tries to dance around her. Chloe trying to get her counters on Melissa, but these ae disrupted by Melissa’s steady strikes against Chloe’s jaw and chin. Chloe tries to back up to reorganize but Melissa moves with her to maintain the pressure. Now Melissa driving hooks into Chloe’s midsection. Chloe fighting back with the jab, but it’s not slowing Melissa down and Chloe keeps giving ground, though she is able to stay off the ropes until the bell rings. Melissa has won this one wide.
R2: Chloe now out very quickly at the bell. She swats Melissa to the chin with her right and then gets under it with the left. Melissa now stumbles back, mitts up around her face, but Chloe starts driving hooks into Melissa’s midsection. Melissa lashes back, trying to keep Chloe at bay, but Chloe now very aggressive in her body punching. Melissa seems to dig in and comes back hard into Chloe’s body. They stand there at point blank range, whacking home the hooks, but then Chloe sneaks in a right uppercut to Melissa’s chin. This stuns Melissa and as Chloe hammers away to the body, Melissa is driven back. She stabilizes and starts trading hooks to the body with Chloe, but time runs out. Result is close, but Chloe gets the round.
R3: Now it is Melissa who comes charging out and she bangs Chloe with rights and left to the sides of the head. Then she buries meaty hooks into Chloe’s belly and she doubles up with a shuddering gasp. Chloe falls back, trying to get out of range, but Melissa is able to stay with her and bang away at Chloe’s flanks and sides of her head. Chloe fights back late with belly hooks of her own that stall Melissa’s pursuit. Melissa then circles, peppering Chloe with a shifting variety of shots, not too damaging but they keep Chloe ducking to the bell. Round goes to Melissa Benoist wide.
R4: Chloe tries to repeat her quick rush as the new round open, but Melissa seems to have been expecting and there is a sharp exchange. Both fighters hit to the jaw and chin, but Melissa is getting more into her punches. Chloe is on her heels, legs shaking as she backs up, trying to protect her head. Melissa now firing punch after punch into Chloe’s rib cage. Chloe backing up steadily until she is driven into the ropes. Chloe tries to slide away along the strands and Melissa sees and opening. She slams her right into Chloe’s temple. DOWN GOES CHLOE! Chloe on all fours, a dazed look on her face, as Melissa heads for the neutral corner. The referee starts counting. Chloe comes to her senses and manages to break the count at “EIGHT!” Referee allows fight to resume, but time runs out very shortly. The knockdown has assured Melissa Benoist has won the round easily. She looks very confident as she goes to her corner while Chloe Bennet is looking unsteady as she heads for her own stool.
R5: Melissa moving in quickly in an obvious effort to finish Chloe off with a quick burst of punches to the head. However Chloe moving her upper body much better this round and the head punches are not fitting squarely. At the same time, Chloe is getting at Melissa’s chin with repeated uppercuts. Melissa pushing forward now engages Chloe to the body. Chloe take sup the challenge and the two are forehead to forehead, trying to get as much power as they can into their punches. Breasts, ribs and bellies getting worked over again and again. Sweat trickling down straining faces as the two go all-out. Then, slowly but surely, Chloe able to force Melissa to give ground, Melissa trying to resist, but the constant whacking of her torso is slowly draining her. Round ends with the two breathing hard, as the sweat rolls off their panting bodies, but it is Chloe Bennet who has punched out a narrow win on the judges’ cards.
R6: Both fighters moving out swiftly at the bell, they circle each other and fire probing punches early. Then Chloe jumps in first with leaping hooks to Melissa’s gut and Melissa is jackknifed forward from the impacts. Chloe brings rising punches up into Melissa overhanging upper body. Chloe able to force punches between Melissa’s high guard and rip a rising uppercut into Melissa’s chin. Melissa snaps upright, but her arms are at her sides and Chloe now bangs away hard with right/left combos to the jaw. DOWN GOES MELISSA! Melissa crumbling sits down and then swoons on her back, knees bent upward, arms still at her sides. Chloe trots to the neutral corner. As she looks back, she sees official counting, and Melisa trying to push herself into a seated position. She makes it this far and then tries to rise, but it is taking too long, She is still struggling to rise as the referee is calling:
“EIGHT!...NINE!...TEN!...YOU’RE OUT!
THE WINNER CHLOE BENNET DEFEATS MELISSA BENOIST KO6!
After: “Onward and upward,” Chloe says cheerfully, “I’m going for the title before this year Is out. Melissa gave me some hard rounds, especially in the 4th with that knockdown. I didnlt quit, though and I came back to win it all. I feel great!”
“I almost had her,” Melissa Benoist laments after the fight. “but I know ‘almost had her’ wasn;t enough. She got up in and time and eventually won the fight. I don’t like it, but this is only my first fight of 2023. I am determined to go on from here and get back to winning.” Lively battle as Melissa Benoist showed she’s got the power to win, but she couldn’t get enough up into Chloe Bennet to do that tonight. Nice win for Chloe who is rolling along nicely and her hopes for a new title shot seem reasonable. As for Melissa, it’s back to the drawing board in hopes of finding a way out of this discouraging streak |
