Hailee Steinfeld v Brittany Snow

Results - Lookout, Words - Sceej

Catchweight bout between two veterans looking to get careers untracked well into their 30s. Brittany Snow, 2-0 since being picked up by Sceej Boxing explains, “I know fighting Hailee, a bantam, raises some eyebrows, but I am making up for lost time and I am not turning down fights. I KNOW what it is to wander in that unmanaged wilderness and having the phone ring once a year if you’re lucky - I’m NOT going back to that which mean Hailee Steinfeld is going down!”

Hailee unimpressed, “They all talk tough until the get in the ring, right? Look, I need rounds and this chick fits the bill for that at least.” I’ll get some work in and then put her on her back.”

Round 1: Hailee out of corner in classic upright stance of the boxer puncher, probing with left jab and keeping smaller woman at distance. Snow is giving up weight AND three inches in height, looking to overcome long jab by bobbing and weaving. When she is able to get inside, Brit pounds brunette rib cage but bigger girl able to clinch and control with size and strength. Brittany not able to get off like she wants - landing one or two shots and then clinch - and this after being buffeted with jab and occasional lead right to get inside - its not a winning formula and Snow disengages - which allows Steinfeld to take initiative! Snow frustrated, taking punishment, and Steinfeld chest up to tell her allllllllll about it at the end of the first.

Rounds 2-3: In corner, Scrubby McGee laying it out harsh and plain “Can’t let her make da pace, girl! More punches - simple as dat! If she t’rows two, you t’row t”ree - you set da pace - don;t let her get so damn comfortable out dere!” Snow out of corner bobbing and snarling - left right to the body - right is blocked. Slips a right lead and left right left - body body head and last shot clashes off temple and backs Hailee up. Hailee digs back foot into canvas and lashes her own left to body, drawing a grunt form the blonde - and a hard left counter to the jaw. The bigger woman having to fight backing up - trying to use jab as rangefinder and then drop the right hand hammer but little blonde is elusive and surprisingly rugged for a flyweight. Trade of jabe mid ring, then Steinfeld right is slipped and Snow erupts out of crouch and tags big brunette with left hook flush on the jaw that puts a shimmy in Hailee’s knees. “Move!” frantic instruction form Ultimate Corner and bantam legs out the last thirty seconds of the third round but Brittany Snow controlling fight now!

Rounds 4-5: Ultimate Corner telling Steinfeld, “Get your respect for this little b*tch!”. Snow still pressing, confidence building and maybe getting reckless? Still marching on brunette but without bobbing and weaving - she’s paying a heavy toll to the Steinfeld jab to get inside and when she does, corner calling for “Clinch” and getting it! It’s all going wrong for Snow and it’s frustrating her. Taking chance - she initiates fire fight mid ring. Back and forth action - Brit giving as good as she gets but weight of shot favors the bigger bantam. Hailee twists torso into tight uppercut that clips chin and … BLONDE GIRL DOWN! Snow sprawled onto all fours - staring at canvas and blinking as ref picks up the count. At “7” she tries to rise but leg buckles and she is left sitting mid-ring, struggling to get up as count passes her by.

Winner by knockout in the 5th - Hailee Steinfeld

Post fight - Steinfeld over to Sceej corner and pats Snow on the cheek. “She’s a tough little piece of bread!’ Hailee acknowledges, “Against another fighter, she wins with that effort. Her hard luck she was fighting ME tonight!”
