Alicia Vikander versus Roxanne Perez

(Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Carnation Creations beauty Perez giving up plenty of size and reach here, a small flyweight stepping up to a bantam, but Roxanne is showing no lack of confidence. "I'M the athlete here," the American beauty says. "And, that's going to make all the difference."

"She's a VERY good athlete," says Alicia. "But, this isn't track and field. It's boxing. And THAT'S going to make all the difference."

ROUND ONE:

Lots of feeling out in the opening frame. Perez showing all that athleticism, bouncing around the ring, probing for openings in Vikander's defenses. Older brunette, meanwhile, looking to find. She wants to work at range, use her length, out-box the younger woman. Neither fighter willing to do much committing right now. Instead, they want to gather information, formulate a plan of attack for later in the fight. Result is a round that, while not lacking in action, definitely lacks sharp exchanges and heavy leather landing. When the bell rings, it's very, very close, but it's the Swedish beauty who's grabbed the first points, taking the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Vikander takes control. Swedish beauty's got the range down now, and she's using her length extremely well. She's getting the jab on target, following up with hard right hands, keeping Perez out on the end of her punches. Roxanne's trying to get off square, get to spots, but, while she's still moving well, she's unable to avoid that sharp, accurate left of Vikander's, and it's that left that makes all the difference in this stanza. Roxanne's never hurt, but the younger woman is definitely being taken to school in this round. She's touched up and picked up, and, when the bell rings, it's Vikander and it's wide and Alicia now leads 20-18.

ROUND THREE:

Perez with even more movement. She's here, there, and everywhere, moving head, hands, feet, all in service of not allowing Vikander to get that left hand on target. And, it works...to a point. There are times when Roxanne is roaming free around the ring, bouncing forward, getting off quickly, slipping away, and getting back to the war of movement. At other times, though, the Swedish beauty is able to get that left on target, follow on with right hands, land in combination. Add it all up, and we have a good, two-way round with neither fighter able to gain much of an edge. A final flurry from Perez proves to be the difference, as she takes the points narrowly and cuts Vikander's lead to 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

More two-way action. Perez having success again with her bouncin' and misbehavin' routine, popping forward, getting off in combination, slipping away. Vikander having her own moments when she's in charge at range with that jab. BOOM! SCINTILLATING COMBINATION PEREZ and Vikander is HURT! Alicia rumblin', stumblin', fumblin' around the ring as Roxanne lets the hands go. BOOMING right hook and Vikander's knees begin to give way. Short right uppie and DOWN GOES ALICA! Perez literally LEAPING for joy. She's knows what she's done here. Vikander face down, not moving, a pile of Swedish wreckage. The count is a mere formality. It's OVER! And your winner by KO4 is Roxanne Perez!

AFTER:

"THAT's what I'm talking about," Perez shouts in the post-fight. "I'm a REAL athlete. These girls at flyweight. Well. You just saw what I did to a BANTAM. How are YOU girls going to handle my power? You aren't. I'm going through you. ALL of you. Right to that flyweight gold!"
