Cassidy Freeman vs Karen Gillan

BEFORE: Lioness veteran Cassidy Freeman isn't that keen to serve as cannon fodder for all these Sports Illustrated models that have taken over the welterweight class in recent years but she's happy to scratch the Scottish fellow redhead Karen Gillan off her list before someone calls her out over the questionable match-making decisions. Gillan remains one of the leading welter non-models and very much holds her own in the division courtesy of her towering statue and above average boxing skills. You don't want to mess with this ginger mayhem and it's no surprise most experts predict a challenging afternoon for the Chicago veteran regardless of the fact she upset Lorella Boccia last month. Lightning never strikes twice, huh?
Cassidy Freeman wears a black crop top, jeans shorts & red gloves. Long auburn red hair tied in a loose bun at the back of her head. Karen Gillan wears a navy blue crop top, jeans shorts & saltire-themed gloves. Long red hair tied in a braid. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Round 1:
Cassidy goes through the early jabbing motions but she doesn't inspire much threat for the Scottish opponent so Karen simply lets her swing around before she kicks into a normal gear and finds some response to counter the American's efforts. Freeman realizes she can be more aggressive here but she bounces off Gillan's forearms and struggles to make her shots count while trying to showcase enough mobility to avoid a genuine one-timer issues. However Karen refuses to chase the highlight peformance and prefers to box it out the old fashioned way and shrugs off a late jabbing rally from Freeman who feels like she has to explore every potential opportunity given her underdog status.
Round 2:
Karen steps up to split the American's mitts and makes quick connection up the middle before looping a left hook on the nose. Ugh! Cassidy barks in anger over the routine combo but she keeps bouncing off the Scottish guard in response and looks somewhat desperate in the process while Karen muscles her away during a brief close range contact. The lanky actress prefers to swing it from mid-range and she follows through with a good series before blowing more heaters into Cassidy's lips. The older redhead begins to lose her patience but she remains ineffective in response since she can't work around Karen's superior reach thus far.
Round 3:
More of the same in the third, Karen enforces the mid-distance rule and scores easy hits up the middle while Cassidy tries to stay in the lane but still gets outworked by the faster opponent. She loops a couple of meaningful shots over the top but fails to ignite a true spark into her performance while the Scottish actress slowly begins to up the work rate and extend the gap between the two heroines. She gives Cassidy's face a proper lick... and another before drilling a rare body shot to open more holes downstairs come the final minute. Freeman has to clinch the fellow redhead but still ends up hugging the ropes at the bell as Karen winks back at several fans inside the arena suggesting she's got everything under control here.
Rounds 4 & 5:
Cassidy feels like Karen isn't even trying to apply full throttle in the ring and decides to make it more personal by blasting the younger actress straight from the gate in the fourth. She weaves away from immediate overhand counter and sticks her mitts into the Scottish body but her aggressive push doesn't inflict much visible discomfort as Karen is more than qualified to cover it off even though she misses on the genuine counter. However she is forced to put more weight behind her shots and still licks Freeman with a couple of loose bombs to navigate the outright danger. Same thing happens in the fifth, Cassidy leads the way by punches thrown but Karen lands more on target and begins to seek the finishing series while the American loses her mojo and allows to be picked off almost too easily by this stage. She might have upset Lorella Boccia last month but she runs out of gas to repeat the trick and gets bounced back to the corner late in the fifth before the clock hits zero in the middle of a frantic body assault that almost shoved the Chicago veteran through the ropes.
Round 6:
Karen fakes another body approach and takes off with an uppercut blast that catches the older actress square on the jaw and Cassidy can't swing back to answer the competitive demand anymore leaving her stranded in... LOOK OUT... big right hook crashes into her nose and DROPS HER IN JACK-KNIVE fashion almost out of nowhere... the writing was on the wall though and Karen goes back to blowing kisses to the audience while the older redhead tries to defy gravity and vertigo at the same time. It's a failed mission though as she slumps face-down on the canvas and Karen Gillan takes the redhead battle in KO6 fashion!!!
AFTER: Cassidy still has some juice left in the tank but she's unable to score two upset results in back-to-back months and while she had her moments versus the former Dr. Who companion, she never actually threatened to beat her in a heads up duel. Meanwhile Karen really needed this result after winning only one of her last five attempts. Most pundits agree she's too skilled to be buried on the divisional charts and it's too early to write her off as championship contender despite the fact dual BBU & FCBA champions are the rarest of species in the female celebrity boxing universe.
