Dove Cameron versus Jenna Louise Coleman
(Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Last two years have been a study in contrast for these two brunettes. Dove, who broke through in 2021 after being signed by HISC, has gone 14-6 against the cream of the flyweight divisions, grabbed the gold, and successfully defended it four times since the calendar flipped to 2022. Jenna, meanwhile, has gone 1-5 in the FCBA over the same period and has dropped five consecutive fights. And, considering that the Lancashire Lovely's 37th birthday passed this spring, tongues have been wagging about whether or not Jenna's time as a top-level flyweight has passed. Coleman, however, is not among those who believes that. "I haven't lost a thing," says Jenna, "Except a few fights. I've had other rough patches in my career. This one is no different. I'll get back on track...and that starts tonight when I take out Dove."

"Don't let anyone fool you," says Dove with a shake of the head. "She's still good and dangerous. But not as good as me. And she never was."

ROUND ONE:

Styles make fights, and it's clear that styles are going to be at issue in this one. Younger brunette Dove, very athletic and with great feet, likes to box at range, stick, move, use the entire ring. Coleman, on the other hand, is a hard-hitter who likes to bring that power to bear. There's no doubt the issue is going to be decided by which fighter is able to enforce the terms she wants, and, in round one, that's Cameron. Dove's here, there, and everywhere. And, more importantly, when Coleman's trying to find her, she's NOwhere. Coleman's unable to get any offense going, reduced to single shots here and there, while Cameron roams free, snapping jabs in Jenna's face, stopping to pop, then circling away before Coleman's rejoinders get underway. At the bell, there's no doubt about it. It's the American wide and with the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Cameron movin' and groovin', but early on, Jenna steps in, snaps out a left jab just wide of the younger woman to stop her circle and then, BOOM! A straight right hand and DOVE IS HURT! Cameron wobbles, nearly goes down, and Coleman is all in, banging away with both hands, driving her rival back to the ropes and then MUGGING her to both head and body. Dove looking ready to go as the referee looks in. Brit looking for the 'off' button, but the American able to keep it concealed. She's taking a beating, especially to the body, but the guard remains high as the blocks, rolls with, runs clock and survives to the bell. When it rings, Jenna's taken it wide to even things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Coleman to work, stepping to, backing up the younger woman. Dove still looking buzzed, willing to give ground here, countering in spots. Brit digging some body, looking to get into her rival's legs, all while pressuring, sitting down on punches, cleaning up while looking to finish. About mid-round, things change. Cameron's legs come around and she gets back on the move. Takes Jenna some time to adjust, stop wading forward and taking punishment, get back to stalking not chasing. Dove makes up some of the stagger as a result, but not enough of it. When the final seconds tick away, Coleman's taken the points and pulled into the 29-28 lead.

ROUND FOUR:

Dove back on the move. She's bouncin' and misbehavin', SNAPPING that jab in the older woman's face over and over again. Jenna stalking, but she's not doing very much finding. Instead, it's again Dove in open ocean, where the athletic American can do what she does best, circle, stop, pop, circle again. She's scoring points in bunches, piling up the lead, all while Jenna looks to get some work done, land some of the power shots she managed to get home in the last two rounds. Doesn't happen, though. It's not quite all Dove all the time, as Coleman is able to land in counter in spots, but, at the bell, it's Cameron wide and we're even at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Coleman stalking, Dove circling. And COLEMAN DOES IT AGAIN! That wide left and then the right hand follow and BOOM! Dove is HURT! Perfect timing from the Brit and Cameron is on rubber legs! Jenna letting the hands go and DOWN GOES DOVE! A short right hook from Coleman and Cameron splashes to her back. Jenna BOUNCES to a neutral corner. Ref counting down at Dove. American sits up at six, gets to her feet at eight. Ref gives her the mandatory and waves on Coleman. Older brunette ALL OVER the younger, hammering away with both hands. Dove rope bound almost immediately, guard high, body on sale. Jenna digging, downstairs, up, back down, looking to finish. Ref on a hair trigger...but Cameron holds on to the bell. Brit takes the round 10-8, though, and leads 48-46 at the half.

ROUND SIX:

Coleman pushing for the finisher. She's stepping to, sitting down on everything, determined to bring that power to be...BOOM! Right hand...DOVE! Cameron with a SCINTILLATING counter and JENNA IS HURT! Coleman stumbling backward, nearly going down, and the American quickly over to the offensive. She's winging away, backing up the dazed Jenna and DROPPING HER WITH A STRAIGHT RIGHT HAND! CRUNCHING right from Dove sends the Brit CRASHING to her back. Cameron not exactly hurrying to a neutral corner, and she needn't have. Coleman not moving at all, both down and OUT. It's OVER! And your winner by KO6 is Dove Cameron!

AFTER:

Fifth straight impressive win for Cameron who has to be right at the front of the line for another shot at the flyweight gold. "Like I said," Dove says in the post, "She's still good and still dangerous, but when she's in there with me? She's simply not good ENOUGH."
