Vanessa Hudgens versus Cierra Ramirez (Flyweight Title)

(Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Flyweight gold on the line as Cierra Ramirez gets a second shot at the brass ring after falling short against Dove Cameron last year. And, if you think Ramirez hasn't heard the talk that she doesn't deserve this opportunity, well. She most definitely has. "Oh, I know ALL about folks doubting me. But, that's nothing new. They've doubted me since I started in the FCBA, and I've proven them wrong again and again. Tonight? If you've got your money on Hudgens, kiss it goodbye."

'Nessa also leaning into that pre-fight chatter. "Does Cierra deserve to be in the ring with me tonight? No, frankly, she does NOT. I beat her EASILY once and will, obviously, do so again. But, here's the thing. NOBODY in this division deserves to step in the same ring with the Greatest Flyweight of All-Time, Hall of Famer, Fittest Flyweight, Best Abs, all of that. Nobody. But, somebody HAS to get the title shot. So, why not Cierra?"

ROUND ONE:

Yeah, Cierra's heard the pre-fight talk, and 'NESSA's pre-fight talk as well. Time for someone to pay. Younger brunette right AFTER Hudgens in a replay of the first round of the first fight, but, this time. Ramirez gets the champion on the back foot almost immediately. There's plenty of aggression from the challenger, and it's ALL effective. She's working head, body, head, forcing 'Nessa to back and cover. About two minutes in, Cierra lands a right that gets Hudgens' attention in a BIG way. Champion isn't hurt, but she definitely FELT that, and, as a result, she remains on the defensive for the rest of the stanza. At the bell, it's Cierra and it's not close, as the challenger grabs the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Cierra right after 'Nessa again, but, this time, Hudgens is more than ready. Champ stops her cold with that left jab, follows on with a nice combination. And, that's the way this frame goes. Ramirez trying to take the fight to Hudgens, and mostly failing to do so. 'Nessa's grabbed control, and she's not allowing the challenger to get it back. Instead, the Hall of Famer stays busy, getting off fast, getting off first, getting off in combination. Ramirez is never hurt, but she's getting touched up and out-boxed by a girl who has out-boxed a LOT of very good fighters. At the bell, there's no doubt about it again. 'Nessa's got the points and she's evened things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Things settle down a little. Cierra's being more choosy about when she goes on the offensive, and that allows the champion to get into the kind of rhythm she likes, moving, jabbing, picking her spots to stop and pop. Result is the first two-way round of the bout, with both fighters getting plenty of work done. Neither is able to grab any sort of advantage, let alone control, and things remain close throughout. There's plenty of action, though, as champion and challenger remain busy, upping the ante late in an effort to steal what could be a very important point. At the bell, the margin is razor-thing, but Hudgens takes the round and moves into a 29-28 lead.

ROUND FOUR:

More two-way action in the fourth. Both fighters having moments. In the first minute, Cierra gets some of what she did in the first round going, backing up the champion with buzz saw stuff, leaving 'Nessa working off the back foot. Second minute, though, see's Hudgens reverse fortunes, begin controlling Ramirez with the jab, putting together punches, backing up the younger woman. There's all to play for in the final minute, and both brunettes are playing, letting the hands go, looking to steal those points, but, once again, when the bell rings, there's almost nothing in it. This time, it's Cierra who's taken the round, and we're even again at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Two-way stuff yet again. All the folks who were doubting Ramirez eating a little crow at the moment, as she's going punch for punch with the Hall of Famer. BOOM! Right hand, CIERRA and 'Nessa is HURT! Hudgens wobbles, nearly goes down. Challenger goes all in. RIGHT HOOK and DOWN GOES HUDGENS! Vanessa dropped to her right side by a VICIOUS shot from Cierra. Ramirez bounces back to a neutral corner to watch and wait. Hudgens rolls to hands and knees at six. Pushes to her feet at eight. Ref gives her the mandatory and ON COMES CIERRA. Challenger battering the champ back to the ropes and working her over to head and body. Ref looking in closely, but Hudgens hangs on to the bell. Cierra grabs the round 10-8, though, and pulls into a 48-46 lead at the half.

ROUND SIX:

Cierra thinking finish now, right out of the corner after 'Nessa and BOOM! She EATS A RIGHT HAND! Hudgens a PERFECT counter just seconds into the round and this fight has turned on the proverbial DIME. Challenger wobbly, getting backed up by HARD shot from the champ. 'Nessa CLINICAL now, setting up NASTY right hands with pinpoint lefts, picking a rubber-legged Ramirez apart. Cierra game, backing and covering, hanging on desperately. Champion looking for the finisher, as she backs the younger brunette to the ropes. Ref again looking in closely, but the challenger hangs on to the bell. Hudgens pitches a shutout, but still trails 57-56.

ROUND SEVEN:

Hudgens determined to finish this thing. Cierra clearly still buzzed, giving ground from the opening bell. 'Nessa continuing to go about this in a clinical way. She's setting everything up, backing Ramirez down methodically, working her toward the ropes, landing a LOT of good, solid shot. Ref watching all of this closely, because Cierra's taking a serious beating. The challenger, however, remains game. She's countering in spots, even landing a good shot here or th...BOOM! Right hand, 'Nessa! Cierra's knees give a shimmy! Champ lets the hands go and DOWN GOES RAMIREZ! A three-punch combination leaves the challenger flat on her back staring up at the ref. 'Nessa to a neutral corner. Cierra glassy-eyed, watching as the numbers get bigger. It's OVER! The challenger can't get off her back and it's OVER! And your winner by KO7 and STILL Unified Flyweight Champion is Vanessa Hudgens!

AFTER:

'Nessa looking plenty bruised after taking a LOT of hard shot from the challenger, but she's not backing off her assertions from the pre-fight. "It's like I said," the hard-eyed champion says. "She doesn't DESERVE to be in the ring with me. And, no one ELSE in this division does, either."
