Kristen Stewart vs Cheryl Cole
(Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Battle of top-flight flyweights features a secondary storyline, as it's also a rematch of a great 2017 PPV bout that saw Cole come from behind to stop Stewart in the ninth round. That victory makes Cole one of only three fighters with a perfect record against K-Stew, something Kristen plays to correct tonight. "I let off the gas the last time," K-Stew admits. "I was in control, touching her up, way up on the cards, and I started coasting. And, she made me pay for that. Well. Lesson learned. And, it will be a different story tonight."

"Yes," Cole says with a smile, "She was all over me early the last time. But, I ALWAYS come ready to go the distance if necessary. It WON'T be necessary tonight."

ROUND ONE:

If Cole started slowly the first time around, she does NOT make that mistake six years later. The older brunette beauty is ALL OVER the younger right off the bell, slipping past Stewart's left jab and getting inside where she can work head and body. K-Stew made uncomfortable early and often in this frame, being backed up and worked over by a determined Geordie buzz saw. Stewart able to get distance on occasion and score some points when she does, but for most of the round, it's Cole calling the tune, and it's not one Kristen particularly likes. By the bell, Cheryl's taken the round wide and jumped out to the 10-9 lead in impressive fashion.

ROUND TWO:

Stewart adjusts. Gets the footwork going, and that accurate jab on target and it makes a TON of difference. Now, Cole's out on the end of K-Stew's punches like she was so often during the early going of that first contest, and that is absolutely NOT where she wants to be. Kristen a terrifically accurate boxer when she's able to set up and range and get her hands out and back, and that's exactly what she's doing now. Cheryl unable to get forward almost the entire way. Late in the round, she's able to make a couple of forays inside and land some punches, but it's much too little, too late. Kristen takes the round wide and evens things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Cole the one adjusting now. Older brunette showing more head movement, more lateral movement, working to slip that jab, then immediately step forward and get off. And, when she does it, she's able to back up Stewart with hard shot to the head. Geordie beauty getting off lusty inside, hooking ribs and tummy to keep K-Stew honest, but concentrating upstairs. Final minute sees Kristen in full retreat, as Cheryl has absolutely EVERYTHING going. She's sitting down on punches, snapping back the younger brunette's head, piling up the punishment right to the bell. When it rings, there's no question about the points. It's Cole wide and back in the lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Game of adjustments continues. Now it's Stewart changing tactics, doubling and tripling up on that jab, all in service of stopping Cole COLD as she tries to work forward, then punishing her with right hands. Like in the second, the older brunette finds herself out on the end of her rival's punches, which, again, does not go well for her. As the round goes on, K-Stew begins teeing off, backing Cole up with some hard shot. Geordie beauty tries to hold her canvas, but can't do and, and, by the end of the round, is on the ropes and taking. She's not hurt, but she's getting touched up in a big way right to the bell. It's a wide round for Stewart, who's evened things again, this time at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Stewart's found something that works, at least for now. Cole's struggling to get to her spots, as K-Stew sends out a constant barrage of accurate left hands that keep the older brunette at bay. Kristen following on with hard rights and BOOM! Right hand counter CHERYL and K-STEW is STEPPIN' IN FENCE POST HOLES! Out of NOWHERE Cole has turned the fight around! Older brunette winging away at the dazed Stewart and DOWN GOES KRISTEN! No one punch does it. It's the accumulation of punishment that drops the Front Streeter to her back. Cole quickly to a neutral corner. Stewart rolling to her belly at five, pushing to hands and knees at six, getting to her feet at eight. Ref gives her the mandatory and ON COMES CHEZZA! She forces Stewart back to the ropes and GOES TO WORK, hammering away to head and body. Ref looking in closely, but Cole's almost out of time. Final seconds tick away with Stewart managing to hang on to the bell, while the Geordie can be comforted by a 10-8 round and a 48-46 lead at the half.

ROUND SIX:

Cole rampant. Older brunette is DETERMINED to end this thing NOW, and she's using every arrow in the quiver to do so. She's backs up Stewart from the opening bell, trapping her on the ropes quickly and working her over to head and body. She's digging tummy in a MAJOR way, looking to bring down that guard and finish up top. K-Stew hanging on grimly, desperately, tying up when she can, trying anything to run clock until the legs come back. But Cole isn't having any. She's shoving off, banging away with both hands. Ref's on high alert almost the entire round, but the American does enough to hold him off. Enough, but no more. When the bell finally rings, Cole's pitched a shutout and built a 58-55 lead.

ROUND SEVEN:

Cole looking a little arm weary as this one gets underway. She's still getting the better of things, still fighting lead, but she's nowhere near as busy as she was in the previous two rounds. Stewart, for her part, still looking buzzed, but playing solid defense, countering in spots. About midway through the round, the legs come around and Stewart begins to get untracked. She's moving and jabbing and getting the space she wants, getting her box on, making up the early stagger. Cole, all of a sudden, being backed up some, as Stewart does enough to grab the round, albeit narrowly, late and cut Cheryl's lead to 67-65 with three to go.

ROUND EIGHT:

Stewart boxing at range again, working that left hand, doubling it, tossing hard rights behind it. Cole working forward, starting to up the work rate again after down round in the seventh. Geordie moving the feet, angling, working hard to get past that jab and get inside. BOOM! Boom? BOOM! Stewart lands a the left and follows on with a BOOMING straight right and Cole is GOBSMACKED! Cheryl wobbles, nearly goes down, and Kristen is all in, firing away with everything in the magazines and it's GEORDIE DOWN! Cole dropped to her back by the weight of shot! Stewart to a neutral corner. Ref counting over the downed Cheryl. Cole, eyes closed, is not moving at all. She's not just down, she's OUT and it's OVER and your winner by KO8 is Kristen Stewart!

AFTER:

Stewart more than a little scuffed after this one, definitely looks like that proverbial "girl who's been in a fight", but the smiles tell you all you need to know about how that fight came out. "Yeah, I came here to prove something tonight. And, when that happens, you REALLY don't want to be in the opposite corner. She's plenty good, but, like I said, I made a mistake last time. And, it wasn't going to happen again."
