Before: “I have won 4 in row now and I am ready to start rising up the Flyweight Division,” says Sabrina Carpenter. “So I am taking the ‘amazon’ over there. (She points to Brec Bassinger who looks amused). I mean she’s a former Flyweight title holder. What better way to advance than by beating her!”

“You know this may be the first time anyone’s called me an ‘amazon’ but I’ll take it. It’s flattering to be considered a stepping stone, but I am not about to forget I want title shot too. Once you’ve had that belt you’ll want it back,” Brec responded.

“To want it back you have to have won at least once and that’s what I’m going for.” Sabrina said frankly.

“I like a fight with something on the line. I’d wish you luck, but I want to win, so I can at least promise you a fair fight—at least until one of us gets hit in the mouth,” Brec said with a smile.

“I’ll settle for that,” Sabrina said smiling back “See you in the ring ‘Big Girl’.”

“See you ‘Would-Be Giant Killer,” Brec said cheerfully.

On Fight, Brec and Sabrina stood facing each other in the round as the referee went over the instructions. Sabrina lands more to the head until Brec can get her mitts up defensively. Then it is back to the midsection with a fresh barrage of hooks and slashing rights and lefts. Brec trying to back away from the storm of leather, but Sabrina keeping with the PLP flyweight and punching steadily to the bell. Brec blinking in surprise as a confident Sabrina strides passed her on her way to her corner. SC has won the round wide.

Then Sabrina fires in big deep hooks to the belly and Brec is sent reeling into the ropes. As her back hits the strands, Brec instinctively takes a seat and buries her face in her gloves. Sabrina flays away at Brec’s midsection trying to bring her down. Brec shuddering, writhing and gurgling, but keeping her head protected am though her knees tremble at times, they are still keeping her up at the bell. Sabrina has answered Brec’s dominating round with one even more dominating as scores a shutout against the former Flyweight Champion.

Then Sabrina strikes back at Brec to the ribs, plus some deep digging blows to the abs. Now the two are going it to the body all-in and they are a wonder of petite punching energy. Very even until near the end when Sabrina sneaks in a head bobbing uppercut tp the chin that breaks Brec’s attack and she is driven back before stabilizing. Sabrina going right for Brec’s head, aiming a straight right for the middle of her face, but Brec turns a blocking shoulder to intercept the blow then swings back with her own right off Sabrina’s chin. Blow is hard one and it causes Sabrina to lurch to one side. Brec moves with her and now attacks hard to Sabrina’s midsection. Sabrina not braced for the blows, is jerked forward and now Brec goes after her with lefts and to her bent forward head. Sabrina trying to get away, bangs into the ropes turns and gets lightning strike uppercuts to the chin. Sabrina pressed against the ropes as Brec now pounds Sabrina’s body. Then, Brec steps back and Sabrina comes crashing forward into Brec arms! Sabrina slides down Brec’s front as Brec steps back and then Sabina is face down on the canvas. Brec looks down at the fallen Sabrina and he departs for the neutral corner. Referee starts counting. Sabrina struggling to push herself up, but she can’t get the rest of her body to cooperate.

After: “Yes, it was very intense out there,” Brec relates to the press. “We both wanted to win and did our best to do it. Fortunately my best was better than hers tonight so I won. I hope she won’t be too discouraged, she got plenty of fight in her and I am sure I have no seen the last of her.”

“Of course I disappointed. She won and I lost. I can be happy about that, but I wasn’t afraid of her and I know I hurt her at times. And she is right: she’s hasn’t seen the last me!” Sabrina declares the next day when questioned by the press. “My fight to be a serious contender at Flyweight will go on.”

Exciting fight for two lively young small flyweights. Sabina Carpenter had her rounds, but Brec Bassinger had the one where she put Sabrina on the canvas.
