Brittany Snow versus Roxanne Perez
(Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)
BEFORE:
"It's kinda cool," says Roxanne with a smile, "That Brittany's actually getting a real chance, finally. And, it turns out, she's not bad. But. Tonight, she's getting in there with a REAL athlete. And, that won't go well for her."
"Yeah," says Brittany with a smile of her own. "After all these years, Sceej has finally stepped up and given me an opportunity...to DEAL with girls like Roxanne. And, that's JUST what I'm going to do!"
ROUND ONE:
Snow showing why Sceej signed a 36-year-old with seven career wins early in the first. Perez is clearly the more athletic of the pair, and she's bouncin' and misbehavin', but that doesn't bother the blonde. Brittany gets in her stance, gets the feet moving and the hands out and back, and slows down the brunette with excellent geometry. Roxanne's having moments when she's scoring in combination, but she's not ranging around the ring wreaking havoc, as we've seen her do in the past. Instead, Snow's using her reach and boxing skills to CONTROL that and control it well. Perez is doing enough to stay in the round, mind, but NOT enough to win it. At the bell, it's Snow close to take the 10-9 lead.
ROUND TWO:
Same again. Perez looking to stick and move, Snow looking to control with the jab and footwork. And, once again, both fighters get some of what they want. There are times when Brittany is in control, able to keep Roxanne where she wants her, get off in combination, pile up points. At other times, though, Perez is here, there, and everywhere. And, that's when the brunette gets the better of things. It goes back and forth that way the entire round, and there's not a whole lot in it as a result. Final thirty seconds sees Roxanne pull away, using her educated feet and rapid-fire hands to get some combinations on and do enough to grab the points narrowly and even things at 19.
ROUND THREE:
Even more two-way stuff on the same terms. It's clear both fighters are comfortable doing what they're doing, so nobody's going to adjust. So, it's blonde and brunette doing what they do, with the former boxing slickly, moving the feet, head, and hands, the the latter using all that bounce and quickness to her own advantage. Once again, it's a near-run thing the entire way, as, while Brittany can sometimes control Roxanne's movements, neither fighter can manage to establish control of the round. And, so it is that when the final seconds tick away and the bell sounds, it's very, very close. But, for the second straight round, Perez takes the points and now leads 29-28.
ROUND FOUR:
Pattern is set. Blonde and brunette fighting well and fighting on even terms. Nobody can gain any real advantage here, and it's not because neither is able to get anything done, it's because BOTH are finding ways to score while putting some limits on the other's ability to do the same. Add it all up, and you get an excellent fight with plenty of action that the crowd and the purists love. And, one that makes things very, very difficult on the judges, who've already had to determine the winner of three very close rounds. The fighters do them no favors in this stanza, either, though, and when the bell rings, the fourth turns out to be the closest of the bunch. Brittany takes it narrowly and we're even at 38.
ROUND FIVE:
Ladies back to work, both upping the aggression just a bit as we move into the fifth. Everybody sound, though, no one getting sloppy and giving the other girl a lot of opportunities for dangerous counters. Instead, blonde and brunette are patient. Working the feet and the jab, trying to create openings any way they can and then take advantage of them before they close. And, once again, both fighters manage to get work done and there's almost nothing in...BOOM! A PERFECTLY-PLACED combination from Snow and PEREZ IS HURT! A three-punch combo loosens the brunette's knees and Brittany pushes ALL the chips to the center! She's winging away with both hands as Roxanne backs and covers and DOWN GOES PEREZ! It's not one punch, but the combined weight of the leather that sends the brunette nosing in at the blonde's feet. Snow to a neutral corner to watch and wait. Perez pushes to hands and knees at six...and SINKS BACK TO THE CANVAS! It's OVER! The count passes Roxanne by and it's OVER and your winner by KO5 is Brittany Snow!
AFTER:
Brittany complimentary in the post. Clearly, she hasn't been around Sceej long enough for J-Mac to rub off yet. "She's really tough to deal with," the blonde admits. "A lot quicker than most girls. You have to be very precise with her and stay patient. And, that's exactly what I did!" |
