Intro:
Third time is the charm! That is what the FCBA lightweight champion will be hoping for as Dua Lipa defends her title against the former world champion Lily James. While Lily will be hoping her victory in the World Cup tournament a few short months ago will give her the momentum to add another title to her CV.

These two fought first back in 2021; Dua fought hard but Lily would score the big victory early in her career with a sixth round knockout. Lily would then defend her lightweight title ironically in January of this year at the expense of Dua, forcing the referee to step in to stop the fight in the eight round. Can Dua win this time around or is Lily simply the better fighter?

What isn't helping the odds for Dua is that she just lost a few short weeks ago to Eden Cohen in a non title fight. Will that defeat still be playing on her mind as she takes on the biggest fight of her career so far?

The night before the fight both women did a public weigh in and press event. Lily stepped up on the stage wearing a black robe and Dua comes on wearing a lime green robe with a smile as the title belt is on her right shoulder. Both women shake hands with their opponent before they walk to opposite sides of the stage.

Lily is up first to the scales. She removed her robe to reveal a black bikini before she steps onto the scales, coming in at 125lbs as her toned body is on show. She taps her abs with a cheeky wink to the fans. Walking away from the scales as she looks in a confident mood.

The champion hands her title to the FCBA committee member before she heads to the scales, dropping her robe to reveal a green string bikini that certainly doesn't hide too much. Dua looks serious as she flexes her arms to show off to the crowd and the FCBA committee member reads out "126lbs" for everyone to hear. Lily nods along as she knows how fit Dua is from their previous two encounters in the ring.

Microphones are handed onto the stage for both women, with Lily joking to the crowd "the fashion show portion of this event is over." Making Dua laugh as it shows how at ease they are around each other.

Lily then turns to Dua as she says "I know that we are going to war for a third time. It has been hard fighting you because you are that damn good but as I look over there." She points at the title. She adds "but that means the world to me. Holding it was such an honour and while I am happy you hold it, I want it back."

Dua nods as she paces side to side listening to Lily. She knows now truly how important the title is now she holds it. She points to the title as she says "I have a hell of a lot of respect for you, the two times we have fought you have kicked my arse to be frank. That title though shows you how far I have come. Beating you will prove that fact as this is my time." Lily smiling as she seems to like the fire she is seeing in Dua's eyes.

The women step closer as Lily tells Dua "once that bell rings our friendship takes a back seat. That title is all I care about as it pays my stable back for all their time in me. You won't hold me back." As Dua bares her teeth as it is clear how much the title truly means to them.

They go forehead to forehead as the crowd watching this watch intently. Cooler heads prevail as they take a step back after a tense minute. Dua says "may the best woman win" with her right hand out. Lily smiles as she nods and accepts the handshake. Before they pick up their robes and Dua grabs the title belt before they leave the stage.

Fight Night! First to emerge is Angelica Bridges leading out the challenger. Lily takes a breath before beginning her walk down the aisle. This title meaning a lot to her as she gets near the ring where she could become a two time champion. Climbing into the ring wearing a white sports bra with red stripes down the sides, matching boots and trunks, red gloves and her hair tied into a ponytail. Lily gets a loud roar from her supporters as she gives them a quick wave before shadow boxing.

Here comes the champion with her coach Giselle Bundchen holding the title up for all to see. Dua is wearing a black sports bra with gold trim, matching trunks and shoes, black gloves with gold thumbs, her hair is tied into a ponytail too. Getting inside the ring, Dua stares hard at Lily as much as they are friends, this has the feeling of a final boss for Dua as she clearly knows she needs to defeat Lily to help cement her legacy.

The fighters walk to the middle of the ring for the final instructions as the referee holds the title belt between them. Both women stare intensely as they shake their arms to keep themselves loose. They respectfully touch gloves before walking back to their corners. The bell rings once they are ready to start 10 rounds of FCBA lightweight title bout action.

Round 1:
"Ding!" They both step out circling with firm jabs testing their opponent out. Dua looks to up the tempo first as she steps in with a left/right hook combo that just about misses, Lily dances back before landing a jab into the lips of the champion to step back. Lily moving inside to whack in a left hook to the body and has her right hook blocked as both show their knowledge of each other off in the opening minute.

Dipping under a straight; Lily lands a right into the belly button of Dua before landing a looping left over the top onto the chin of the singer to turn her head. Lily now starts to move Dua around the outside part of the ring as she opens up more now. Dua looks to have tightened up a little as she is being outworked around the outside part of the ring.

The final minute sees Dua get caught with a left hook on her jaw, driven backwards onto the ropes as Lily works the body. Dua holds onto the challenger to slow her down. Showing the respect they have for each other, they break apart when ordered by the referee so they can resume. Dua landing a few double jabs to stop her opponent charging her down up until the bell rings to end the round. A good start for James out the gate as Lipa needs to get into gear before this ends up another defeat for her.

Round 2:
Doubling up her jab seemed to work to finish the last round, Dua uses it to start this round. Several of her punches manage to smack the challenger flush on her lips to hold her back on the outside. Lily starting to throw in her own combos to start some heated exchanges as the crowd whistles and cheers both women on in an electric atmosphere.

A straight lands on the forehead of Lily to knock her head back. That is soon enough followed by a right hook near her ear to make the stunning actress retreat back to the perimeter of the ring. Dua not racing after her, instead using her straight punches as she now holds the middle of the ring.

Lily looks slightly annoyed she is being herded around the ropes. Landing a few solid punches but taking more in return through to her face to the delight of the Girls Friday corner. They can't get too lax though as moments before the bell rings Lily lands a sneaky uppercut to push Dua to her heels. The round ends with both women looking firmly in the zone now, no hints of smiles or any warmth to each other.

Round 3:
Both women start off quickly looking to establish control, leading to some heated exchanges to the others body as they get in closer. A firm test of each others abs before they retreat back to the outside to work at range. Dua looking to be landing the crisper punches when they are at range then when Lily gets in closer.

As Lily tries to dip down to move inside, Dua pivots on her back foot to the left of Lily to land a straight into her temple to make the challenger grimace as she takes a step backwards. Lily finding herself being crowded back into a neutral corner as Dua gets more authoritative with her punches as she digs her toes into the canvas.

Pushing back at Dua's chest to get space. Lily isn't laying down for her opponent as she gets back in closer to work the torso of Dua. It gets scruffy in the home stretch of the round with some holding and hitting. Once the bell rings there is a slight nudge between them but neither loses their cool as they return to their corners to sit on their stools.

Round 4:
Sweat starting to coat their brows as they work away. Lily getting to the inside more as she drills in more body shots to make Dua hiss. The singer returns fire with some hooks under the ribs of Lily to make her bite down on her mouthpiece. Both are certainly not holding back on their friend as the cracks of leather when they land flush is ringing out around them.

Lily crouches down and this time gets a jab under the chin of Dua before the champion can move off her base. Lily lands a looping overhand right to the chin of her opponent to twist her head around. Here comes Lily! She backs up Dua into a neutral corner as she works her ribs with hooks and switches up top to keep Dua somewhat guessing.

This time as they clinch, the referee has to be the one to split them up. When they resume Lily gets caught with a straight into her forehead as she looked to move in closer, a warning that Dua isn't going to be bullied so easily. They exchange more toe to toe in the final twenty five seconds of the round. When the bell rings if feels like Lily has even the scorecards up as both women are wiped down on their stools. Some marks on their faces and Dua has more around her body then Lily does as these two are fighting hard.

Round 5:
Tapping their left gloves together as they try to get their jabs working at similar times. There is a few times both walk into punches trying to push the pace up a notch to work their opponents back. Dua lands a left hook to the chest of Lily to make her hiss and back off, there's a hint that Lily is pissed off by that shot as Dua doesn't seem to notice and tries to follow with a right hook up top that finds air.

After the opening minute of the round; Dua lands a double jab into the chest of Lily to knock her back a step, slicing through her guard with a straight into the challengers face. Dua has Lily backed up to the ropes, working in hooks till Lily can grapple with her. Dua finds herself pressed to the ropes as Lily looks to be trying to show her who the alpha in this ring is.

Once they resume Lily is forcing the issue more, leading to hot tempered exchanges as Dua isn't interested in giving up ground. Both women nearly clashing heads as they trade shots. At the bell Lily stomps back to her corner. Angelica telling Lily to get even if she is upset by Dua. While the champion sits on her stool taking a breath as Giselle tells her to keep her head and not get overly excited by any successes she is having.

Round 6:
Lily comes in early with a left hook of her own to the tits of Dua, making Dua snarl out instinctively as she grimaces, a look of surprise on her face for that as Lily waves her to bring it on. Both lacing their opponent to the face with straight punches. Dua looks a little thrown off her game as a straight lands under her chin to knock back her head.

The challenger looks to have found another gear as she is whacking away at the torso of Dua when she gets to the inside. When on the outside she is landing several two punch combos as she is outworking Dua around the ring. The champion starts to come back as they head to the end of the second minute with short hooks to the face.

Heading into the final moments of the round, Dua forcefully uses her left forearm to nudge back Lily, landing a short uppercut after to her chin to send her reeling back two steps. Dua coming on strong now as she whacks Lily back to her own corner. Lily swings back when her back touches the turnbuckles as they are fired up. At the bell they stop punching but do give the other a deathly stare. Dua marches back to her corner as Lily sits on her stool with an annoyed expression even as Angelica points out she was brilliant this round till the last minute.

Round 7:
Pushing off their stools to resume with their bodies glistening. Dua looks to double up her jab again but Lily has other ideas, landing a sweeping right hook on her opponents chin to turn the champs head around. An uppercut catches Dua flush to send her back two steps as Lily comes looking to hurt her frenemy.

Dua finds herself under siege as Lily is firing in hard hooks from both sides, throwing in some uppercuts as Dua has to do her best to block as much as she can. Holding onto the LMW fighter to stop the assault. They are broken up with Dua looking a little shell shocked by what is happening.

More big punches flying from Lily towards the champion. Dua is mostly covering up as she might be a little buzzed. Nearly all the work coming from James as she picks away at her opponent. The bell dings to end a very dominant round for Lily. Dua is yelled at by Giselle after being checked over. Dua nods solemnly that she can't let Lily treat her like that in the ring.

Round 8:
Tapping her gloves together as she stands up. Dua seems to have a fresh game plan as she is giving up ground to Lily early. It is on her terms it seems as she is dancing around on her toes firing in straight shots. Pivoting to create new angles to strike from as she seems to have found her own fresh gear to throw Lily off.

A straight to the temple makes Lily stumble back two steps as she blinks hard. Dua sees the sign of weakness and steps in now with clubbing shots. Lily looks a little worried as she tries to fire back but is being beaten back. UPPERCUT TO THE CHIN SENDS LILY REELING BACK ONTO HER BACKSIDE!

Dua walks to the neutral corner with no hint of celebration, just staring at the referee to watch the count. 1..
.2....3....4... Lily shakes her head as she turns to get to all fours. 5....6....7... She is clearly buzzed though as she stumbles trying to push to her feet, going forwards and if not for the middle rope in front of her she grabs, she might have face planted there! 8....9....10 Lily James is counted out!

Winner and still FCBA lightweight champion Dua Lipa KO Round 8

After:
Finally Dua defeats her frenemy as she raises her arms in the air and looks to the heavens with relief written all over her face. Remembering Lily is her friend, Dua walks over to check on her. Lily isn't so happy to see her as she pushes Dua's offered glove away. Dua looking a little surprised by the reaction.

Angelica comes into the ring and asks Dua for a few moments with Lily. Who needs helped up to her feet. Lily then waves Dua to her and embraces her friend, clearly she felt embarrassed by the situation, maybe seeing the look on Dua's face made Lily realise what she had done as she says that she is proud of her friend.

Back to her corner with help goes Lily. She looks annoyed that she didn't make it a hat trick tonight of victories over Dua. Angelica points out that she still looked brilliant at times tonight, she has firmly established herself right now as arguably at least one of the best two or three lightweights in the world. Lily smiles and thanks her coach for those kind words.

The winner meanwhile gets hugged by Giselle and the rest of her corner crew. Dua admits that she feels like a weight has been lifted from her back. She sits down and gets cleaned up as she looks ready to burst with joy at finally overcoming Lily to prove she truly is one of the best in the world today.

Once both are cleaned up and are ok to come to the center of the ring. They get off their stools to go there. Lily asks if she can place the belt around Dua's waist, Dua fighting back tears as Lily shows her class. They share a quick embrace as both joke that they can have a proper hug when they aren't as sore. Dua raises Lily's right hand in the air to show she still sees Lily as a champion herself. Both bonded by battle in the ring.

Lily leaves the ring with some help from Angelica. She wipes away some tears as there is still some disappointment that it isn't her holding the belt. There is always next time around of course as Lily has arguably been the best lightweight over this calendar year with her lightweight title reign and the World Cup tournament victory.

In the ring Dua poses with hands on her hips and the belt proud around her waist. Giselle telling the world that this is the woman to beat. Well Dua has got a stern test ahead already as she steps out the ring. It has been announced on the Fight Night Live (FNL) social media account that Dua will defend her lightweight title against Stana Katic in China. Stana has been another success story with her jaguar title reign over this year. Can Dua hold off another stern test in two weeks time or is she burning herself out taking these high level fights soon so one after the other?
