Priyanka Chopra versus Chloe Bennet (Bantamweight Title)
 (Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

The phrase "no hype needed" is sometimes overused in the FCBA, but it certainly applies here, as we see a matchup of two top brunette bantams. Challenger Bennet has won 46 of her last 49 fights, and all three losses have been in title matches. Champion Chopra is seventeen of her last 20 and has been both Princess of the Ice Hotel AND Unified Bantamweight Champion this year. So. Yeah. No hype needed. And, plenty of respect all around. "I've been in with a lot of the best in the FCBA," says Chloe. "And, she's as good as anyone I've ever fought."

"She's a champion," Priyanka admits. "But, I'm a champion, too. And, I'm better. As I will prove."

ROUND ONE:

Zero surprise in the first. Chopra, as usual, aggressive, wants to come forward behind that left jab, bring her power to bear. Bennet clearly expecting this decides to give ground and fight in counter. Works well in the first minute, as Chloe actually gets the better of things. Then, Chopra gets it going on all cylinders, and, soon enough, she's got the younger woman on the back foot and is keeping her there with flurry after flurry of hard, accurate shot. Soon enough, Priyanka's in full control and Bennet, though not hurt, is taking a pasting. There's absolutely no doubts about anything when the bell rings. It's Chopra and it's wide, giving the champ the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Bennet adjusts. The challenger is known for not being afraid of firefights, and she's not afraid of this one. She holds ground and bangs back as the champion tries to press the issue and it's HAMMER AND TONGS in the middle of the ring. Ladies banging away, committing on everything, both determined to grab control of this thing, but neither willing to cede control. Two minutes in the pace actually picks up and the crowd is on its feet as the two brunettes get off lusty. But, nobody's taking a step back and nobody's slowing down. At the bell, the ref leaps between the fighters, just in case. It's a near-run thing, but as the two brunettes head back to their respective corners, Bennet's claimed the points and evened things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Ladies dial things back a bit. Now we're doing some ranged boxing, and, early on, Priyanka's using her slight reach advantage to get an edge. As things play out, however, Bennet gets the geometry down and begins taking control. She's beating the champion to punches, slipping, countering, getting that hard, accurate jab on target and following on with right hands. Big Choppy's never hurt, but she is definitely taking the worst of it, even getting backed up by some hard flurries in spots. Older brunette's doing her best to hang in there, but, when the bell rings, there's no doubt about the result. Bennet's taken it wide to lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Big Choppy gets back to doing what she does. She's moving forward, getting physical. Bennet willing to play this game to a point. She's giving ground in spots, holding canvas in others, trying to manage the aggression rather than simply hot toss with the champion. Turns out to be a pretty good strategy, because, while Chopra's able to get her work done and score points, she's not able to take control. Neither is Chloe, but that's not Bennet's goal here. The goal is to prevent Priyanka from grabbing the initiative, and THAT the challenger manages to do. Add it all up, and, at the bell, it's close. Big Choppy, though, takes the points and we're even at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

More of the same. Both fighters settling into this pattern now of Chopra working forward kinda/sorta playing bull while Bennet manages, kinda/sorta playing matador. And, once again, both fighters play their roles pretty well. Priyanka puts punches together, scores with both hands. Chloe slips, blocks, counters, and sets up her own offense off the jab. It's good, two-way stuff for the second straight round, and there's almost nothing in it right into the final seconds. That's when the champion turns it on and tosses the challenger to the back foot, grabbing the points, albeit narrowly, late to pull into an equally narrow 48-47 lead at the half.

ROUND SIX:

Chopra forward again. Bennet again managing. Pattern now seems to be set, with both fighters comfortab...BOOM! Right hand counter CHLOE and Priyanka is HURT! Chopra STEPPIN' IN FENCE POST HOLES! Challenger all in, letting the hands go and DOWN GOES BIG CHOPPY! A right hook sends the champ to her right side! Bennet to a neutral corner to watch and wait. Priyanka to hands and knees at six, pushes to her feet at eight. Ref thinks about it giving her the mandatory and then waves on Chloe! Bennet BATTERING the older woman back to the ropes, working over some on-sale body, but mainly targeting the head, looking to finish. Chopra hangs on grimly, doing just enough to hold off the ref to the bell. When it rings, Bennet's won the round 10-8 to lead 57-56.

ROUND SEVEN:

Bennet dominant. Younger brunette's got the champ in trouble and she's giving her a beating, cleaning up thoroughly while trying to finish this thing. Chopra playing for time here, giving ground, jabbing in spots, trying to stay off the ropes all while waiting for the legs to come back. Chloe knows exactly what her rival is doing, and she's not letting her get away with it. Bennet committing on everything, PUNISHING the champ, wobbling her with about thirty seconds to go. Ref's again watching closely, but Priyanka's hanging on grimly, sometimes literally, as she clinches to run clock. At the bell, Bennet's pitched a shutout, but Chopra's still standing, down 67-65.

ROUND EIGHT:

Eighth begins the way the seventh ended. Chopra retreating, Bennet advancing, working the jab, scoring with both hands. Priyanka's firmed up a little and Chloe notices. She's not damning any torpedoes here. Instead, the challenger is showing plenty of respect for the champ, all while still fighting lead and taking the battle to the older brune...BOOM! Right hand, BIG CHOPPY! A SCINTILLATING counter from the champ and Bennet is GOBSMACKED! Chopra quickly goes over to the offensive and DOWN GOES BENNET! A three-punch combination sends the former champ to her back. Chopra to a neutral corner to watch and wait. Bennet to her feet at seven. Ref gives her the mandatory and ON COMES BIG CHOPPY! Champ quickly forces the challenger to the ropes. Chloe in a high, tight guard, hanging on. Chopra tossing the kitchen sink at her and...IT'S OVER! The ref leaps in with ten seconds to go and it's OVER! Bennet protesting but the referee unmoved and your winner by TKO8 and STILL Unified Bantamweight Champion is Priyanka Chopra!

AFTER:

Chopra bruised and battered, cut over one eye. But, she's got a smile for the post-fight interview. "Knew that would be a war. Just knew it. Knew it would be close, too. But, I knew I'd come out on top. And, that's JUST what I did!"
