**Jamie Hayter (1-1, 1 KO) vs. Robyn Lawley (35-16, 35 KO)
(Carnation Creations vs. Sceej Boxing) Results: Lookout! Boxing / Story: Carnation Creations**
**Before the fight:** The atmosphere was electric as a sold-out crowd packed the Mohegan Sun for this highly anticipated welterweight showdown. Jamie "Dynamite" Hayter made her way to the ring first, draped in a Union Jack robe over black and gold shorts with matching gloves and boots. She looked focused and ready, shadowboxing intensely during the introductions.
"I'm gonna explode all over this Aussie tonight and prove why I'm the next big thing in this division," Hayter declared, eliciting cheers from the crowd.
**Ring walks:** Robyn "Godzilla" Lawley entered next to a blast of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck," wearing an elaborate robe depicting the Sydney Opera House over a green and gold Aussie flag-inspired top and trunks. The tall Aussie blew kisses and flexed during her introduction as boos rained.
"Hayter's in for the beating of a lifetime. I'm sending this Limey bum back across the pond knocked out cold," Lawley boasted.
The fighters received final instructions before the opening bell. This is a welterweight fight set for twelve rounds!
**Round 1:** Lawley dwarfed Hayter in size, and the Brit looked to negate that by crowding Lawley from the start. Hayter came out aggressively in the first round, immediately getting inside and ripping hooks to the body. Lawley tried using her long jab to keep the smaller fighter at a distance, but Hayter slipped the punches and surged forward.
"Is that all you got?!" Hayter taunted as she banged hooks off Lawley's midsection. Lawley clinched several times to smother Hayter's work, but the Brit fired uppercuts inside to break free. Hayter pinned Lawley on the ropes late in the round and teed off with blistering combinations. Lawley covered up and slipped most of the blows, but Hayter's relentless pressure and higher work rate earned her the opening stanza widely on points.
"You ain't so big and bad now!" Hayter shouted as she strutted to her corner, up 10-8 on the scorecards.
**Round 2:** Lawley switched tactics, using her long legs to circle the ring and control distance. She pumped the jab constantly at the onrushing Hayter, snapping her head side to side. Hayter grew increasingly frustrated trying to slip the piston-like jab as Lawley backed her up with it. The Aussie began following it up with straight right hands down the middle, stopping Hayter's momentum. Late in the round, Lawley landed a big right uppercut in an exchange that momentarily buckled Hayter's knees. Lawley easily took the round with her effective lateral movement and jab.
"Dance all ya want, I'm still gonna knock you spark out!" an irritated Hayter warned, now all tied up.
**Round 3:** Lawley continued using her size, mauling Hayter in the clinches and controlling her with short uppercuts inside. Hayter struggled to match Lawley's strength as the Aussie pushed her around the ring. Lawley landed another blistering combo late and seemed to be taking over. Hayter rallied in the final minute, ripping some good bodywork, but Lawley still took the round closely on points.
"Get ready for a long night, runt!" Lawley taunted as Hayter headed to her corner, shaking her head, the Australian up 28-27 on scores.
Round 4: Hayter's corner urged her to box smarter and focus on counters to offset Lawley's physicality. The Brit took heed and boxed well here. She slipped more of Lawley's jabs, then returned fire with well-timed overhand rights. Lawley was caught off guard by the tactic change and absorbed several huge right hands that reddened her face. Hayter ripped thudding body shots that slowed the Aussie's movement late in the round. Hayter's counterpunching allowed her to even up the fight heading into the second half as she took the round closely on points.
"How'd you like those apples? Plenty more comin'!" Hayter shouted with renewed confidence, tying the scorecards up 37.
**Round 5:** The Australian icon regained control in this round after staggering Hayter early with a chopping right uppercut. The punch hurt Hayter badly, and Lawley swarmed her, driving her into the ropes. Lawley unloaded with sustained fury, rocking Hayter's head side to side with blistering combinations. Hayter covered up desperately, just trying to make it through the onslaught. The ref took a close look, but Hayter survived to the bell. Still, a dominant round for Lawley had Hayter in trouble.
"Just a matter of time now before you get chin-checked, sweetheart," Lawley sneered as a dazed Hayter slumped on her stool, Lawley up 47-45.
**Round 6:** courageous Hayter came out with nothing to lose, winging wild haymakers. But she soon ran smack into a counter right hand from Lawley that landed flush and dropped her hard on her back. The crowd gasped as Hayter crashed to the canvas. She barely pulled herself up at the count of six but was badly shaken. Lawley moved in to apply the finish, driving Hayter into the corner. But suddenly, Hayter exploded with a desperation uppercut that smashed Lawley on the point of the chin. Now it was the Aussie's turn to hit the deck! **Lawley struggled to rise at the count of eight but could not beat the ten count! The crowd erupted as Hayter was awarded the shocking comeback KO victory!**
"I told you I'd explode on you, didn't I!" a jubilant Hayter shouted as the ref raised her hand.
**After the fight:** A furious Lawley pounded the canvas along with McCarthy, insisting the ref's count was fast. But the gutsy Hayter had scored a dramatic last-round comeback knockout! Both fighters had been left facing defeat in the face during the thrilling back-and-forth war, but the underdog Brit somehow emerged victorious in the end, securing her second win. |
