Anya Taylor-Joy vs Natasha Calis

(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)

Anya Taylor-Joy
(27, 5’7, 24-7 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)

Natasha Calis
(24, 5’8, 5-1 FCBA, Queens of Absolution)

Pre-Fight: League of Mighty Women’s Anya Taylor-Joy will be facing Queens of Absolution’s Natasha Calis in the semi-finals of the Empress of the Body Saddle Tournament. They are both in good form and considered as top contenders for the tournament alongside Hailee Steinfeld. Both fighters will be extra motivated to get a win over their opponent, because in addition to the importance of the tournament, this is also a proxy war between Anya and Natalie (Dormer) after what happened between them when they were stablemates. Natasha will be looking to win this not just for herself, but also for Natalie, while Anya will be hoping to send another message.

Press conference before the fight begins with Anya addressing the audience. “I’m glad I got this matchup in the semi-finals, so that I can beat another bully on my way to the title! Natasha and Natalie deserve each other as they are both bullies, but also both are beneath my level. So, Natalie can watch all she wants, she won’t be happy at the end of the fight. I will make sure to wave at her when I’m riding her steed though!” Natasha glares at Anya as she is clearly unhappy with her words. She then proceeds to respond in an intense manner. “You won’t be so smug, when I’m done with you, Anya! I will enjoy every moment that I beat you up, not just for myself, but for Natalie too! Then Natalie will strap the body saddle on you tight and I will ride you hard!” Anya gets flustered and stands up, staring daggers at Natasha, who also stands up and gestures for her to come over. Before things can get ugly, LMW camp pulls their fighter back and escorts her backstage, while Natalie watches all this with her signature smirk on her face.

It is fight night and Anya enters the ring first wearing a black sports bra, matching trunks, pink gloves and boots, while her hair is tied into a ponytail. Natasha is wearing a white sports bra, matching trunks, black gloves and boots with her hair also tied into a ponytail. No touch of gloves as they intensely stare each other down. The referee signals for the bell!

Fight: We have a clash of styles here in this fight as Natasha goes for a high-pressure, aggressive and at times reckless attacking style, while Anya uses a calm and collected counter-attacking approach. They have something in common though, which is their burning desire to defeat their opponent. They are both razor focused on the task at hand, throwing each punch with intent to hurt their opponent badly. It is not just about winning, but making a statement while doing so. In the opening round, Anya uses her opponent’s aggression against her. She times her counters perfectly and punishes Natasha every time she tries to launch an attack. Natasha gets frustrated as she keeps eating stiff straights to her face or hard hooks to her ribs. A great start for Anya as she wins the opening round wide. It doesn’t prevent Natasha from trying the same in the second round though and this time her high-pressure offense overwhelms Anya. Her counters are not as effective, so Natasha gets through them easily to find openings in her defense and once she does, she does some damage with uppercuts and hooks both to the chin and the body. She answers with a wide win of her own to tie the score. They both make adjustments to their styles, so that the next two rounds end up being tightly contested. Things also get more physical as we see lots of pushing, bumping and clinching happening as they wrestle for position and to create some space for landing big punches. They are still tied after the fourth round.

The fifth round starts in the same manner as one side lands a few good punches, the other side clinches to slow her down and then vice versa. That is until the halfway point of the round. After getting separated from a clinch, Natasha steps back in with a couple of hooks up top, which are blocked, but then she goes down with a crunching hook to the ribs. As Anya lowers her guard to protect her body, Natasha quickly switches levels and lands a left hook to the chin. Anya stumbles and tries to clinch with her opponent, but Natasha gives her a forearm push and then a big uppercut to the chin and down goes Anya! Natasha stands over her fallen opponent and needs to be urged by the referee to go over to the neutral corner. The count begins. 1…2…3… Anya slowly raises her head and in that fuzzy state, she can see Natalie tapping gently on the body saddle with her signature smirk at the ringside 4…5… she sits up, narrows her eyes as she is still looking towards Natalie and bites down her gumshield 6…7…8… she musters her strength and gets up on her feet, showing the referee that she can continue. The action restarts with Natasha trying hard to finish her opponent off, but Anya survives the round.

Things slow down in the sixth round as Anya tries to recover from the knockdown she suffered and Natasha seems to be trying to catch her breath after expending a lot of energy trying to make Anya quit in the previous round. Natasha still tries to put some pressure on her opponent, but her attacks are sloppy and ineffective, so they don’t trouble Anya, who finds some counterattacking opportunities to get a narrow win in this round. The pace picks up in the seventh round again as Anya seems to have found her second wind. She utilizes her fancy footwork to get in and out of range to land some clean combinations. Still looking for that knockout punch, Natasha tries to retaliate with some big swings, but she is finding nothing but air. After ducking under another wild swing, Anya lands a crunching hook to the ribs and then an uppercut to the solar plexus. Natasha looks stunned as Anya sets her up with a jab and then goes for a big right hook that lands on the chin and drops Natasha on her back! Anya raises her fist as she walks over to the neutral corner and the count begins. 1…2…3… lying on her back, Natasha groans as she rubs her chin with her glove 4…5… she sits up with a blank expression on her face 6…7…8… she shakes her head, trying to clear it and then tries to get up, but her legs are shaky and she drops down on her butt 9…10! Natasha gets counted out and it is all over!

Official Result: Winner by KO in round 7, Anya Taylor-Joy!

Post-Fight: Anya looks tired, but relieved as she throws her hands in the air in celebration. On the other side, Natasha looks dejected as the result and the consequences settle in. Natalie can be seen shaking her head as she looks disappointed with the outcome as well. After Natasha gets cleared by the medical team, Ana de Armas and Gillian Anderson quickly come over with the body saddle to get her ready for the ride. Ana gives a final tug to the straps to make sure that everything is secured before letting Anya mount Natasha. After settling on the body saddle, Anya says “Looks like I tamed you Natasha, but still, I like a strong steed, so let’s see what you can do!” and squeezes Natasha’s ribs with her legs to make her move. As Natasha refuses to move, Anya tugs at her hair and squeezes harder to make her comply. Anya ends up having to hold on to the saddle as Natasha launches forward furiously. When they are passing Natalie at the ringside, Anya says “Slow down horsie, we don’t want Natalie to miss this moment!” as she waves at her. As expected, Natalie doesn’t take it well. She jumps out of her seat and tries to get to the ring as the security stops her. Natasha uses this opportunity to try to get Anya off of her. With Anya trying to steady herself on the body saddle and arguing with Natalie at the same time, Gillian realizes that things can get messy soon. In a veteran move, she pulls away her fighter and escorts her backstage with Ana, knowing that Anya still has another fight in the tournament.
