Priyanka Chopra vs Natalie Dormer (Bantamweight Title)
(Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)
BEFORE:
This one more than a little personal as Chopra, in inimitable Jack Barry fashion "goes off the board" to get Dormer into the ring after comments from the blonde that did not sit well with the brunette. But, if Dormer's sweating the champion, who's on quite the run, well, you can't tell by the prefight. "She's out to get a pound of flesh tonight," says Natalie with a smile. "Well. I'M here to get the bloody title. That's the difference."
"She's not getting the title," says a hard-eyed Priyanka. "What SHE'S getting is the beating she deserves."
ROUND ONE:
Chopra off her stool, across the ring and AFTER the blonde. Dormer quickly tossed to the defensive by an all-out assault from the champion. No way did the blonde not see this coming. But, plan as she must have for this eventuality, she can't deal with it. Priyanka's too strong, too quick, too skilled, too determined. All the challenger can do is back and cover and try to limit the damage. Her success doing so is mixed. Natalie's never hurt, but she's definitely getting touched up and feeling some of those hard right hands. And, Priyanka's piling up a load of points along the way. At the bell, there's no doubt about the results. It's Chopra wide for the 10-9 lead.
ROUND TWO:
Dormer makes some adjustments. She's still giving ground, but she's doing more lateral movement, showing more head movement, jabbing effectively in spots to slow down the brunette's offense. But, while the challenger SLOWS the champ, she doesn't come close to stopping her. Priyanka's still getting work done, she's just not dominating now. Instead, it's good, two way stuff. Chopra always looks to be the more dangerous of the two, but Dormer holds her own pretty well and, rolling down the stretch, things are very close indeed. A couple of late exchanges go Natalie's way, and that's all it takes for the Brit to grab the points and even things at 19.
ROUND THREE:
Two-way stuff again. Priyanka determined to take the fight to Natalie, and she's succeeding in doing that. To a point. Because, once again, Dormer's playing the counter-puncher and giving as good as she's getting here. Chopra, again, looking the more dangerous of the two, but the blonde's keeping up well as far as the cards are concerned, and, just like in the second, there's not a lot in it, even if there's a lot happening, as both fighters are busy and landing hard, accurate shot. Final thirty seconds again sees several sharp exchanges with both fighters landing some good punches. At the bell, it's very close, but it's Chopra and the champ goes back into the lead 29-28.
ROUND FOUR:
Pattern now set. Both women succeeding on these terms, and nobody's interested in making any changes. It's Chopra forward, working the left, walking in behind it. Dormer willing to give ground, playing the counter-puncher, landing good, solid shot, holding her own with the champion. Priyanka working hard to impose will, but she can't get it done. Natalie too slick in the counter, slipping punches, filling every opening with hard leather. For the third round in a row, the issue is in doubt right up to the final seconds, and, while both fighters are active right to the end of the round, neither can create any real separation. At the bell, it's Dormer by a cat's whisker, and we're even at 38.
ROUND FIVE:
Same again. What looked like it might be a blowout for Chopra early has turned into a very competitive fight. Priyanka continues to be the aggressor, and an effective one at that, but Natalie's scoring plenty in the counter until BOOM! Dormer CATCHES PRIYANKA WITH A RIGHT HAND AND CHOPRA IS HURT! Dormer quickly over to the offensive now, banging away at the wobbly champion, trapping her on the cables, then PUNISHING her to body. Natalie with a cruel smile as she works abs and ribs, then goes upstairs only to drop right back down. Chopra FEELING it, but keeping that guard high, hanging on to the bell. When it rings, Natalie's taken it wide and pulled into a 48-47 lead at the half.
ROUND SIX:
Chopra still looking buzzed as we start the sixth. Dormer looking to finish. She's the one stepping to now, using the jab to set up hard right hands. Priyanka forced to give ground. BOOM! RIght hand counter, PRIYANKA and NATALIE IS HURT! Dormer GOBSMACKED by a SCINTILLATING right and now it's the champion over to the offensive. She's letting the hands go in a big way and DOWN GOES NATALIE! A three-punch combination sends the Brit CRASHING to her back. Chopra raises the arms over the head, stares down at her fallen opponent before heading to a neutral corner. Wasted time does not matter, however. Dormer is both down and OUT and remains motionless on the canvas well past the count of ten. It's OVER! And your winner and STILL Unified Bantamweight Champion is Priyanka Chopra!
AFTER:
Brunette beauty a little scuffed but feeling herself in the post fight. "She opened her mouth," says Priyanka with a sneer. "Well. I gave her a chance to back it up. And, she couldn't. She ended up RIGHT where I said she would. At my FEET." |
