Anya Taylor-Joy vs Minka Kelly
(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)
Empress of the Body Saddle Title
Anya Taylor-Joy (Empress) (27, 5’7, 27-7 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)
Minka Kelly (43, 5’5, 76-35-1 FCBA, Lioness Club of America)
Pre-Fight: League of Mighty Women’s Anya Taylor-Joy will be making her second defense of the Empress of the Body Saddle title against Lioness Club of America’s Minka Kelly. Anya has one five in a row and she made her first title defense last month against Megan Fox. She will be looking to repeat that performance as she faces another Hall of Famer in Minka, who was the Bantamweight Title holder at the beginning of the year, but had her ups and downs since then. She won her last two fights in impressive fashion though and she will be looking to add another title to her Hall of Famer career before the year ends.
The pre-fight press conference starts with Anya addressing the audience. “I really enjoyed riding a Hall of Famer last time, they are built differently you know, so I have decided to ride another one. Minka is quite old though, so I hope she provides enough of a challenge to keep things interesting and then be a good steed afterwards. Anyway, at the end of the day I will be breaking and riding another self-important bully!”
Minka is smiling as she begins her address and she doesn’t seem to be affected by her opponent’s words, which might be considered as a veteran move. “It is my first body saddle bout, but I never back down from a challenge and I’m here to have fun at this point in my career, so I’m excited to try my hand at it with a title fight. Sure, being 43 doesn’t make things easier, but I proved that I still have some fuel left in the tank with my previous title reign, so I might as well enjoy another reign. Also, since Anya is so keen on dealing with the bullies in FCBA, why don’t I do her a favor and deal with one!” Anya looks angry after her opponent’s words, but she recollects herself before both fighters pose for the cameras.
It is fight night and Anya enters the arena first with her coach Gillian Anderson beside her. Her stablemate Ana de Armas follows them with the Empress’ body saddle, which is black with a gold crown on one side and ‘Empress Anya’ written in pink on the other side. Anya greets the fans cheering for her with a royal wave.
She is wearing a black sports bra, matching trunks, pink gloves and boots with her hair tied into a ponytail.
Minka comes out next with her coach Eva Mendes accompanying her. The Hall of Famer waves and blows kisses to the fans as they cheer loudly for her. Once inside the ring, she shakes her arms and legs to keep her muscles loose before the fight.
She is wearing a leopard print bikini top, micro jeans shorts, red gloves and boots with her hair tied in a braid.
Both fighters come to the center of the ring to listen to the referee's final instructions and then they go for an intense but clean touch of gloves. They step back to their corners and we are ready for 10 rounds of action for the Empress of the Body Saddle Title!
Fight: Round 1: Minka is known for her slow starts, so it is no surprise that she is taking her time to find her footing early on. Anya is not known for aggressive starts either, but her coach clearly told her to capitalize on her opponent’s slow starts, so she is putting the pressure on the challenger right away. Anya picks up the pace as she steps in and out of the range to tag her opponent with short combinations and she alternates between going to the head and the body to keep her opponent guessing. Minka is throwing some counterpunches and she finds the target with a few, but she is clearly having trouble matching the pace of the Empress in the opening round. Anya is relentless with the pace as she increases the pressure on her older opponent with stiff jab-straight combinations up top and hard hooks to the body. It is rare that we see Anya this aggressive in an opening round, but it is clearly working really well for her as Minka is struggling to deal with it and stops punching back in the final minute of the round to focus on defending. It ends up being a dominant display for Anya as she comfortably wins the first round.
Round 2: Anya is the initiator again early in the second round as she sticks with the aggressive, high-pace offense that worked really well for her in the opening round. She quickly moves in and out of range to land short combinations, especially targeting the challenger’s body. Minka is slowly picking up her own pace to match that of Anya. She certainly has the legs for it, but it is taking her longer to get that going, when facing a much younger opponent. She is starting to land more counterpunches though, which is disrupting Anya’s offense and preventing her from dominating like she did in the first round. As the round progresses, so does Minka’s game plan as she now turns her single counterpunches into short combinations that are starting to put Anya on the back foot. Minka is slowly but surely taking control of the fight and she wins the round narrowly on points to tie the scorecards.
Round 3: Minka has clearly found her rhythm as she is setting the pace and initiating the exchanges in the third round, while Anya switches to defensive approach after an aggressive start to the title bout. The veteran fighter is using her technique and power to land stiff one-two combinations that snap the Empress’ head back with each impact. Anya is firing back with some body shots, but it is not as effective as she gets driven back by Minka, who has the momentum now. Minka increases the pressure on Anya by putting together longer combinations that test the limits of the Empress’ defense. Anya is able to block a few shots, but Minka successfully overwhelms her and slips stiff jabs and straights past Anya’s guard.
In the final thirty seconds, Minka backs Anya to the ropes with a double jab-straight combination. With her back to the ropes, Anya tucks her elbows in and tightens her guard as she tries to make it to the bell without taking too much damage. Seeing this, Minka starts blasting away with big hooks and she has plenty of power behind those, so they hurt even when they are blocked. Minka eventually gets a couple of hooks to the chin and the body that do some damage, but Anya survives the round. Minka was firmly in control in this round though, so she wins it wide and takes the lead on the scorecards. During the break, Gillian tells her fighter to pick up the pace and to keep her feet moving, so that she doesn’t get caught up like this again.
Round 4: Anya listens to her coach and increases her pace at the start of the fourth round. She is not going back to her aggressive style at the beginning of the fight though, instead she is just circling around her opponent as she keeps her feet moving. Minka is still the one that initiates the exchanges, but she is not as accurate as the previous two rounds with her combinations. It is clear that she is putting in more effort to chase Anya down than to land punches in this round as the Empress finds an unusual way to slow down the boxing action by increasing the pace of her movement. During the short exchanges, Anya also fires back with body punches, which slows Minka down even further. Still, the veteran makes it count when she catches Anya with her hooks, but the problem is that they are few and far between. Anya narrowly wins this round with lots of movement, but not enough action. They are tied on the scorecards and Minka is still the one who dished out more punishment so far, but she needs to be careful with the high pace and the body shots she receives.
Round 5: Anya is using the quickness of her footwark at the start of the fifth round again, but Minka is clearly getting frustrated with this game of cat and mouse. The Hall of Famer is trying to cut angles and when she does, she goes for big swings as she steps in. It is a high risk, high reward approach as she opens herself up for counterpunches when Anya sees it and times her side step well to land short, crisp combinations, but when Minka ends up catching her opponent with those wild swings, she is doing damage. Anya takes advantage of these opportunities early on, but as the round progresses, the risk Minka is taking starts to pay off. One of these wild swings comes in the form of an overhand right as Minka steps in and it lands flush on Anya’s face. The Empress is clearly hurt by it as she immediately backs off and goes to a defensive stance with her guard up high. Seeing that, Minka changes targets and goes for the body with a couple of hooks to the ribs that land hard, forcing Anya to clinch. ATJ tries to slow her opponent down and use her height advantage in the clinch to push down on Minka, but the veteran fighter uses her power and bullies the Empress around instead. Before the referee separates them, Minka pushes her opponent away to do some more damage, but the bell rings before she can do anything significant. Still, Minka wins the round wide and retakes the lead on the scorecards.
Round 6: Looks like the way the previous round went urges Anya to go back to a more aggressive style again. Minka isn’t backing down either, so we are getting a fast start to the sixth round as both fighters stand and exchange. After a couple of blocked and dodged shots, Minka lands a stiff straight up top and Anya answers quickly with a couple of hard hooks to the ribs. Minka switches her focus to the body as well and they both start firing shovel hooks from close range as they get physical. Minka has the slight power advantage which could trouble Anya, but the Empress has been going after her opponent’s body more consistently throughout the fight, so Minka ends up in trouble first after a few nasty punches to her abs and steps back from the exchange. They start circling around the ring and start looking for opportunities to cut angles to get inside again. Minka tries to replicate her successful move from the previous round as she lowers her head and steps in with an overhand right, but Anya sees it coming this time and lands a lead uppercut that rocks the Hall of Famer. Anya follows it up with a quick hook to the chin, but then the veteran fighter raises her guard up instinctively to protect her head. The Empress goes back to the body though and lands a right hook to the ribs followed by a devastating liver shot! Minka folds and crumbles to her knees! Anya walks over to the neutral corner with a smug look on her face as the referee begins the count! 1…2…3…4… Minka is still on her knees, her arms clutching her body and her forehead resting on the canvas 5…6…7… her body clearly locked up after that liver shot as she is unable to move 8…9…10! She finally raises her head and spits her mouth guard as the count passes her by. It is all over!
Official Result: Winner via KO in round 6 and still the Empress of the Body Saddle, Anya Taylor-Joy!
Post-Fight: Anya elegantly raises her hands, but she keeps her celebrations short as she has another Hall of Famer to ride. She taps her feet impatiently as the medical team checks up on Minka. They give her some time to recover and then help her to her feet. As soon as Minka gets the thumbs up from the medical staff, Anya gestures for Ana and Gillian to get her ride ready.
Gillian and Ana are getting quite used to the saddling process at this point, so they quickly get Minka ready to be ridden. Ana makes sure that the straps around Minka’s waist and thighs are extra tight, making Minka wince as Ana seems to enjoy her job a little too much. She then gestures to Anya that her ride is ready. Anya elegantly mounts Minka and then gives her the body squeeze with her legs to make her move. However, Minka still feels the after effects of the liver shot, so her body tenses up with that squeeze, making her unable to move for a few seconds. Anya gets impatient as she says “Let’s go horsie, I don’t have all day!” and Minka replies “Just give me a second, I’m still recovering.” It only angers Anya as she spanks Minka and says “Horsies don’t talk back! Horsies just listen and follow the orders of their Empress!” Minka sighs, but with nothing else to do, she musters her strength and starts moving forward on all fours. She is clearly struggling with carrying Anya around the ring after the damage her body suffered though and she finally collapses just short of completing the round. Anya spanks her again a few times to get her to move, but then realizes that Minka is unable to go any further, so she dismounts. “Well, that’s all you can get from an old steed I suppose. It is not your fault horsie, you did your best!” Anya says as she pets Minka’s head, while her team takes off the body saddle and then they leave the ring. Back in the ring, Eva helps Minka to her feet and then they head towards backstage together.
