DANIELLE CAMPBELL VS BECKY G

Danielle: 28 YO, 5’3 (1.60 m) 29-25-0, 29 KO since 2014, Pretty Little Punchers Inc.

Becky: 26 YO, 5’0 ½ (1.54 m), 13-16-0, 13 KO since 2018, Latina Knockouts

Before: “I haven’t had a good 2023,” admits the 2-0 Danielle Campbell, “I am just hoping I can end the year with a win. I’ll even be the ‘Big Girl’ in this fight—that shuld count for something.”

“Bah!” sniffs the singer Becky G. “She just thinks that—for once—she’ll be able to physically dominate an opponent. I may b short, but I know how to fight bigger girls. I haven’t had a good year myself at 1-4. I know I can do a lot better and I men to start it by winning this fight.”

Both fighters motivated by a need to finish a disappointing year with a win and so be set up for better things in 2024. In the ring on Fight Night both look tense, but eager to go. Danielle in a yellow one piece swimsuit with black boots and gloves (yellow laces) Hair in battle braid. Becky G in a black one piece swimsuit with red gloves and boots (black laces). Becky’s hair in a long braid down her back. Ring instructions are covered promptly. Gloves are tapped and the fighters go to their corners. DING!

R1: Becky G is out of her corner in a flash and comes plowing into Danielle Campbell arms churning in and out as she hammers the taller girl to the body. Dani struggling to keep from being driven back into her own corner. Becky able to keep Danielle tied up and unable to counter effectively. However Dani finally manages to stun Becky with a sudden strike t the chin. This freezes Becky just long enough for Dani to circle away and reach the more open spaces of mid ring. Becky goes after Dani and they are soon going at it at close range once again, but this time Dani looking more comfortable and is answering Becky punch for punch. Then Becky shifts her attention from Dani’s body and catches her to the jaw with a couple of right/left combinations. Dani falls back and Becky goes after her, but time runs out. Very active round. Becky’s early domination allows her to build up the points despite a late Danielle C comeback. Round to Becky G close.

R2: Danielle Campbell fast out of her corner to start this round. Becky G fast too, but this time gets bashed early as DC finds her jaw with a hard right and a hard left in tandem. Becky lurches back from these blows and is slow getting her mitts up around her head. This allows Dani to use jabs to bang her to the side of the head and the chin. Becky belatedly defending her head and using her own jab to answer Danielle. Then DC goes after Becky to the body and pounds away at her to the midsection. Becky trying to counter to Dani;s body but Becky finally obliged to fall back as the round is ending. Danielle Campbell wins round wide.

R3: Both fighters are again out quickly for the new round, but this time Becky G manages to slip in close on Dani C. Becky once again going to town on Danielle’s body, but Dani is able to give it to her back. Grueling action as the two are shoetip to shoetip, bringing in the leather in short right and left hands. Things very even at this point, but then Becky gets a smashing right into Danielle’s solar plexus and that staggers the PLP fighter. Becky now able to clip Danielle to the chin and put jabs on her jaw. Danielle pulls back and resets to resist Becky to the bell, but Becky has been able to pull off another close win.

R4: Dani C very aggressive in this new round. She starts punching away at Becky to the head as she circles around the singer. Becky trying to keep u, but the constant head strikes are clearly fogging up her reactions. Becky finally makes a charge against Danielle and scores against her to the jaw with three good rights and a left. However DC returns fire and cracks Becky hard on the jaw in a blow that spins her to one side. Becky able to regain her balance, but DC is n her, punching hard at the smaller fighter’s body. Becky finally just covering up and jut trying to hang on to the bell. DC tries hard to get Becky down, but she is still on her feet at the bell. Danielle Campbell wins this round wide.

R5: Becky not looking good coming out for the new round. She is moving stiffly and is showing a defensive look. Danielle circling around her like a predator sizing up a wounded prey, firing in some jabs and seeing Beckys reactions (slow and disorganized). Then DC methodically cuts off the ring on Becky and uses mainly body punching to push her back towards the ropes. Becky tries to make a stand through some wild swings at DC’s head. These are gglancing blows and Danielle replies with a devastating three-uppercut sequence to Becky’s chin. Becky sags back against the ropes, she is having trouble keeping her gloves up and now DC fires in one overhand right after another into Becky’s jaw. DOWN GOES BECKY G. Becky collapses and lies there with her cheek resting on the canvas. Danielle trots to the neutral corner as the referee steps in. Becky tries to rise, but can’t seem to get her body to cooperate. She finally collapses back down onto the canvas.

“EIGHT!...NINE!...TEN!...YOU’RE OUT!” calls the referee.

THE WINNER DANIELLE CAMPBELL KO5!

After: “I am so happy I won this,” a relieved Danielle Campbell tells the press. “!-2 may not be much of a record for a year, but it sure is better had 0-3. Becky wasn’t easy. She knows how to punch and punch fast. I am just glad I was able to handle her.”

As for Becky G she tells press: “I lost of that’s the fact of it. I know I can do a lot better and I hope to prove that next year. I just want to put this year behind me.”

Plenty of action for flyweight fans in this fight. Becky G tried hard, but she just couldn’t seem to overcome Danielle Campbell in this one. Fans can hope both fighters have a much better 2024 in the FCBA ring.
