Intro:
Now we have two women after getting wins for two different reasons. Amy Willerton is hoping to get her second win in the Diamond Boxing Tournament after defeating Megan Thee Stallion to start her campaign off. Daphne Groeneveld meanwhile is trying to get her first ever career win in her second bout. Losing to Iskra Lawrence. This isn't exactly an easier on paper chance to get that win.
Before the bout as with each fight of the Diamond Boxing Tournament. Both women gave their thoughts on camera in a small room with a video camera and a stool in. White walls around them.
Amy gets her chance to sit and talk first. Wearing a black blouse with blue denim jeans and black heels. She sits with a beaming smile as she says "I am on a roll. I am loving this!" Winking as she is excited to be on the run of her career so far.
Turning her attention to her opponent. Amy tells the camera "Daphne looked interesting in the video I saw of her in her debut. But I think I have the power and experience to ride through her. Every win is important for me because I feel so close to breaking into the elite. Not disrespecting Daphne but I am confident I will beat her" blowing a kiss to the camera when she is finished. Showing that she is coming out her shell more as she is rising up the ranks.
Daphne comes into the room after wearing a black dress with matching heels. Sitting down with a little smile. Maybe trying to hide how she is really feeling. She says "well my debut certainly didn't go how I wanted. I did feel that I had successes against someone who is more experienced then me. So there is something for me to build off."
She then continues "but that was last month. This month I have Amy in my sights. I know she has been on a run of impressive results and she has a great stable behind her. Still I have watched her and honestly.. She isn't a world beater. She is an average fighter that has found form. I can take her down and start my path to the top." Looking a little more confident as she stands up and leaves the room.
Fight night in San Antonio's Alamodome. First onto the stage comes Amy with Ali Landry behind her. She taps her red gloves together as she wears a navy blue sports bra with red trim, matching trunks and shoes to go with her hair being in a ponytail. She is smiling as she gives the crowd a wave from the ring steps. Once inside the ring she looks serious as she bounces on her toes staring at the opposition corner.
Now here comes Daphne with her coach beside her. She taps her cheeks with her orange gloves. Walking to the ring wearing an orange sports bra to match her trunks and shoes as well. Hair tied into a ponytail as she climbs through the ropes into the ring. Shadow boxing to get in the zone as her coach gives her a pep talk.
Referee waves the fighters to the center of the ring. Where they give each other a look over. Bumping gloves with their opponent when prompted by the referee. They jog back to their corner as they look in great shape. The bell rings to begin 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
Daphne out on her toes throwing jabs as she seeks to circle to Amy's left. The English lass stalking after her, looking to move in closer to land her bigger punches. With Amy stabbing in punches from range to the body of Daphne. Feeling each other out in the opening minute.
Amy gets clipped trying to step in. A left hook on her jaw is then followed by a straight. Pushing back Amy a step. Daphne then switches to be more on the front foot. Landing a follow up jab/straight combination. Amy finding herself being moved back around the ring near the ropes. Being outworked as Daphne looks determined not to go 0-2 in the ring.
With less then forty seconds to go. Amy showing off her improvements over the past year. Ducking under a left hook to hammer in a hard right hook to the ribs of her foe. Coming back up with a jab to the chin of Daphne. Who backed off looking to keep the range at a safe distance in the dying moments of the round. At the bell both women staring at each as they pass by.
Round 2:
Amy coming out more aggressive. Slamming in a right to the abs of Daphne. Following moments later with an overhand left to her cheek. Daphne soon finding herself pressed to the ropes as Amy looks to chop away at her body. Daphne needing to push Amy off her to get off the ropes.
While Daphne lands several solid blows around the cheeks of the smaller woman. Amy is able to stab the better punches through to the face of her opponent. A straight catches Daphne under her chin to knock her onto her heels. Heading back to the ropes as they enter the final minute of the round.
Digging away at the abs of her opponent. Amy looks to have the bit between her teeth. Daphne needing to hold onto Amy. Forcing the referee to step in to break them up. Daphne boxing defensively as she moves around the outside part of the ring. Amy not rushing in as she doesn't want to get caught, showing patience. The round comes to an end with Amy giving Daphne an idea of why people see her more then average we Daphne claimed.
Round 3:
Back out they step with Daphne trying to move around the ring. Slinging in punches off the back foot. Amy stepping in with her punches at the abs of Daphne. Getting clipped around her head. With Daphne landing a double jab into the forehead of Amy as she tried to land a straight.
Driving forwards with a more straight punches. Daphne showing she can do more then just box on the move. Swinging around the guard of Amy as well as drilling in punches around the face of the English fighter. Amy landing single punches out her guard as she sees openings.
Deflecting a left cross. Amy lands a straight into the nose of her opponent. That opens up the Dutch lass to a right hook. Amy coming off the ropes with fire in her eyes. Daphne covering up as she is finding Amy in her face. An uppercut just misses from Amy before the round comes to an end. Daphne looking a little annoyed that while she had a good round, still Amy is showing moments of why she is dangerous fighter in this tournament.
Round 4:
Resuming fighting with Amy catching Daphne with another straight under the chin. A left hook then follows to turn the head of the taller woman. Daphne finding herself driven into a neutral corner. Daphne gets caught with an uppercut. Head rocked back as her legs are a little shaky. ANOTHER UPPERCUT LANDS TO SEND DAPHNE DOWN ONTO HER BACKSIDE!
Jogging over to the neutral corner. Amy gripping the top ropes either side of her after wiping some sweat from her brow with her right hand. 1...2...3....4.. Daphne has her head tilted back. Eyes shut as she groans out. 5....6....7.. Right leg bent as she isn't moving much more. 8...9...10 it's all over!

After:
That's the second win for Amy in the tournament. She walks over to her corner to get a warm embrace from Ali. Both smiling as Ali tells her "you showed how dominant you can be. Keep this up and you'll be the fighter we all know you can be." Making Amy nod her thanks for the kind words before she sits down on her stool to be wiped down and her gloves taken off.
While Daphne maybe regretting entering this tournament to start her career off. She is helped up to her feet. Rubbing her chin as she is a little shaky. Her coach needing to get her over to her stool. Gloves off as she groans. Admitting "Christ.. that wasn't pleasant." As she shakes her head.
Both women are cleaned up. With Daphne leaving the ring when she is able to move with more solid legs under her. This certainly wasn't how she hoped to start things off. If Lais Ribeiro is an example though of starting off poorly and then having a strong run in your career. She looks despondent at the moment as the sting of defeat is fresh.
In the ring Amy jogs to the center of the ring. Bouncing on her toes as she gets her left arm raised as she looks like she can go another few rounds. She is all smiles as she flexes her right arm to the fans. Soon leaving the ring with Ali. Her manager Sharon Horgan will be so pleased that Amy is so far proving their development programme a success. |
