Intro: We kick off this fifth round of action in the Diamond Boxing Tournament with an American/English clash. Elizabeth Turner (1-3) looks to continue growing her reputation with the Celebrity Wrestling Federation stable behind her. Across the ring will stand Iskra Lawrence (1-3), with both women struggling to break out in the field, getting knocked back towards the bottom of the rankings. Which one will step up and take the other down to move up?
They will fight inside Amsterdam's Johan Cruijff Stadium. Before that though both put out a video to the fans on the FCBA Networks social media accounts. First up was Elizabeth as she wore a white dress and sat on a park bench in a quiet area.
"Look things haven't went to plan. I thought I could win this tournament, I thought I could beat Hailey Clauson for the JMDD title in March and now I am fighting to move up the rankings. While in the past I would doubt myself, I know that I can beat Iskra, I can keep on moving forwards thanks to my stable and because of my fans. I promise you all I am not giving up" says Elizabeth. She taps her chest where her heart is with her right hand as if to show she promises what she said.
While Iskra does her video back in her home in England. Sitting on her sofa as she wears black leggings, a pink sports bra and white trainers. She tells the camera "I am so sick and tired of being written off by people, some calling me fat and how I thought I could be a star. First f**k all the trolls! I am in better shape then you. Secondly I am going to beat every single person left in the tournament I have to face. I'm done being disrespected!" Standing up and giving a not so friendly two fingered salute to the camera as clearly she is sick of the criticism coming her way.
Fight night. First down the aisle comes Elizabeth with her coach Natascha McElhone. Both look in a serious mood as a win is important to reboot the momentum Elizabeth had when she joined her stable. She steps into the ring wearing a red sports bra with white trim, matching trunks and shoes, white gloves, while her hair is in a ponytail. She bounces on her toes as Natascha is giving her a pep talk.
Iskra now begins her ring walk with her coach Jennifer Love Hewitt behind her. She taps her pink gloves together as she gives a hard stare aimed at the ring. Soon enough Iskra climbs into the ring wearing a pink sports bra, matching trunks and shoes, her hair is braided as she taps her cheeks and yells "come on!" To herself, wanting to fire herself up for the big contest.
Both women step to the center of the ring for the final instructions from the referee. Not much in age and height, Iskra of course is built more thicker of the two, still she has some tone to her body as Elizabeth looks her over. The fighters do touch gloves, it isn't the most friendly you'll see as there is a crack of leather. Walking to their corners as both are ready to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1: Elizabeth is out her corner quickly looking to establish her jab. Moving to the left of Iskra to stay away from her punishing right hook. The American gets several of her punches through to the beautiful face of Lawrence to knock her head back. Near the end of the opening minute Iskra lands a left cross and a straight to slow down Elizabeth.
On comes Iskra as she pounds in punches through the gloves of her opponent to knock her head back. Turner needing to hold onto her, forcing the referee to break them apart. Elizabeth looking relieved already to get out the firing line of her rival. They resume with Turner snapping in a jab/straight, while Iskra lands a straight in return as they look to grab control for themselves.
It's Turner who holds it as a missed left cross leaves Lawrence open to a counter right to her face. Back goes Iskra under pressure from Elizabeth. Who is starting to put her punches together as her coach is looking fired up. Knowing the importance of a win here. Iskra fires back in the dying moments of the round, just missing as Elizabeth dances back out of the swinging punches of the English fighter. At the bell Elizabeth looks happy enough with her work, Iskra not so much as she taps her own cheeks on her way to her corner.
Round 2: They resume with Iskra looking to be assertive. It isn't so easy as Elizabeth is looking good on the move, slamming in two punch combos at range as Iskra looks annoyed. That changes when she is able to cut the ring off and drives forwards with a jab into the nose of Turner, followed by a right hook that twists the head of the slightly taller woman to the side.
Crowding Elizabeth back towards a neutral corner. Iskra slams in several crisp punches into the torso and face of her opponent before she is held. Elizabeth is fighting smartly but it's going to be hard to hold off Iskra like this through the fight. Liz bouncing on her toes and moving again to the left of Iskra, peppering her cheeks with straight punches as Iskra look frustrated that she has to hunt down the more mobile fighter.
Less then thirty seconds to go; Iskra lands a jab square into the chest of her foe. Soon enough that punch opens up Liz to a few more shots around her face as Iskra drives her onto the ropes. Turner shelling up as Lawrence goes to the body when she isn't as success up top. The bell rings with Iskra showing why she is a fearsome fighter with that raw power behind her shots. Elizabeth is shaking her head knowing she can't let that happen all night.
Round 3: They resume with Iskra looking to step in more quickly during their exchanges. Elizabeth looking a little worried when she is taking some hard hits around her torso. The cracks of leather ring out around them, more so when Lawrence lands as she is getting in tighter to Turner now to worry Natascha in the CWF corner.
Bullying back Liz into a neutral corner with a shove to her chest. Iskra crowds her again as she tests the abs of the American. Grabbing hold of Iskra in a tight clinch, Elizabeth finds herself being pressed back against the turnbuckles. Iskra making the clinch uncomfortable till they are split up.
Turner gritting her gumshield as they resume fighting. Digging her toes into the canvas more when she is throwing punches to try to make Iskra respect her. Problem with that is Iskra is the heavier handed with both fists. It isn't long till the round ends and Elizabeth spits some blood after taking a drink into her bucket, she is cut on the inside of her left cheek as it looks a little puffy.
Round 4: Resuming with Turner tapping her gloves before they exchange stiff jabs. Elizabeth is moving more side to side. Not just going one way so Iskra can catch her easily. They exchange stiff punches through the others mitts at times but the cleaner punches is starting to come from the American. She is drilling her shots into the face of Iskra to cause a pink hue to form on her cheeks.
Several hooks miss from Iskra as she looks to close in on her rival. Instead Liz is landing counter punches that are scoring nicely. Iskra definitely thinking more about her attacks, which allows Elizabeth to get into her rhthym easier with two and three punch combinations coming in to the relief of her corner crew.
But again you can't sleep on Iskra, who lands a hard right hook across the cheek of her opponent. Elizabeth finding herself backed to the ropes once more, covering up as Iskra swings in hard hooks. The round ends with Elizabeth still shelled up a moment as Iskra looks to be fighting the urge to strike again, referee stepping in to nudge Lawrence back to her corner as things are heating up between them.
Round 5: Iskra now coming back hard at Elizabeth from the start. They exchange at midrange with Elizabeth focused on working upstairs compared to the better body punches coming from Iskra. An uppercut catches Elizabeth on her chin to surprise her as she stumbles two steps backwards. Iskra quick to pounce as she pushes back her opponent into a neutral corner to work away.
After a good twenty seconds of being pounded by Iskra's fists. Elizabeth is able to grab a hold of her right arm. Liz using her free right to smack in short digs to the cheek of Iskra, who is using her left to hit anywhere she can. The referee breaks them up with a warning to Turner not to hold and hit. Smartly though Turner is more focused on getting into space then really listening to them.
They resume with Elizabeth boxing more off the back foot as Iskra looks to steam forwards. Her right is flashing out to slam into the cheek of Iskra when the heavier handed fighter misses with her left crosses. The round ends with Iskra having a little swelling around her own left cheek. Both women sitting on their stools looking sore. The crowd roaring both women on as this has been a great style clash so far.
Round 6: Back at it they go with Liz deciding to box more on the back foot it seems. Laying little traps for her opponent as Iskra lands a few crisp punches before going for a home run with a big hook and only finding air, then in comes Elizabeth with her counter punches. A straight right slams into the forehead of Iskra to snap back her head before a left hook crashes into her jaw to send sweat flying.
Elizabeth now has firm control of the action. Slamming in several more crisp combinations after Iskra misses, causing the English fighter to again be overthinking things. Iskra getting caught more then she is landing as Elizabeth is looking relaxed, her punches flowing more.
Late in the round Iskra manages to get inside to work. Reminding Turner how dangerous she can be with a left/right hook combo into the body to make Liz hiss. They end up clinched thanks to Turner, nearly leading to a grappling contest as Iskra shows her frustration by hooking the left leg of her opponent to try to trip her up, both stumbling into the ropes with the referee quick to break them up. The bell rings with Iskra warned to keep it clean as both women return back to their corners to be cleaned up.
Round 7: Both step out their corners looking a little worn but still trying their best. Problem for Iskra is she looks to be slowing down enough for Elizabeth to be catching her with more punches then she can land in return. A clubbing right hook on the ear of Iskra leads to a left hook landing flush on her chin. MORE PUNCHES COME FLYING AS ISKRA IS BEING POUNDED BACKWARDS BY THE FURIOUS BARRAGE COMING HER WAY! A LEFT HOOK LANDS ON HER EAR TO SEND ISKRA DOWN TO HER LEFT SIDE NEAR THE ROPES!
Elizabeth raises her arms in the air breathing a sigh of relief, maybe premature as the referee nudges her towards the neutral corner so the count can begin. 1....2....3....4... Iskra groans as she rolls to her front. 5....6... Grabbing the bottom rope with her right glove. 7....8... Iskra pulls herself up to the middle rope with her chin resting on it. 9....10 she hasn't the strength to get any further! Iskra is counted out by the referee!
Winner Elizabeth Turner KO Round 7
After: That's an impressive win for Elizabeth to defeat such a hard hitting opponent. She turns in the neutral corner to the crowd to raise her arms in the air, smiling as she takes in the cheers of her supporters who flew over to Holland to watch her.
Back in her corner moments later, Elizabeth gets a pat on her right shoulder by Natascha. Who jokes "you can have tomorrow off before getting back to training" with a wink. Elizabeth might need a few days off as her torso has a few red marks and her cheeks are a little puffy. She smiles and nods back as she rests on her stool.
Meanwhile Iskra is helped up by her corner crew and taken over to her corner. Jennifer wipes her face down as she tells her "don't worry about this ok? If you let these defeats get to you then they will keep building up." Maybe not what Iskra wants to listen too as she groans on her stool. Fighting back tears as she expected to have the power to knock over Turner, instead she is feeling it from being beaten down to the canvas.
Once both women are cleaned up they come to the middle of the ring. Iskra nods as the result is announced and Elizabeth gets her left hand raised by the referee. While they don't look like they will be friends anytime soon, they do share a respectful nod to each other.
Iskra though is more keen now to get out the ring with some help from Jennifer. She shakes her head on the way to the back. This was supposed to be the launch pad to her Elite career and right now it feels like that has been cancelled as she can't string wins together. Iskra has Jennifer trying to build her up with her kind words on her performance, Iskra though isn't really listening as she looks lost in her thoughts.
Inside the ring Elizabeth and Natascha are chatting about the fight. Liz admitting that she was feeling those punches right through her body down to her toes. Natascha telling her that she showed toughness tonight that should erase doubts on any of her critics minds. Making Turner smile at her coach as they look to be creating a real bond.
Stepping out the ring together. They walk side by side to the backstage area with a smile and joking with each other. Elizabeth still has a chance to finish this tournament with a positive record. She was seen as a possible dark horse to win it all, so if she is to show she deserved that tag she will need to finish up with those two wins available to her. |
