Intro: The second bout tonight sees Elizabeth Turner (3-3) and Daphne Groeneveld (0-6) look to finish their Diamond Boxing Tournament run on a high note. Elizabeth is aiming for fourth place and Daphne just to get a win on the board. They share a ring her in Wembley Stadium.
Before the contest this time both get a chance to speak on stage to a crowd of press. Elizabeth Turner stepped onto the stage wearing a navy blue dress and heels, Daphne wears an emerald green dress with matching heels. They step together at the center for a quick face off, hands on hips with both staring each other down before they separate.
Elizabeth is first up to the podium set up at the center of the stage. Elizabeth tells the press "well this hasn't been the perfect tournament for me. I've lost as many as I have won. The fact is I know some people wrote me off. They said I would lose to the likes of Megan (Thee Stallion) and I beat her. If I can finish this tournament with a flourish then I expect more focus on me." Cupping her face with a cheeky smile.
She then tells Daphne "fact that you can't buy a win... Well let's say I am not exactly worried about you." Brushing her hair behind her ears with a smirk. Daphne shaking her head as she clenches her fists.
It's Daphne's turn at the podium. She says "so as Elizabeth said in her bytchy way. I haven't won a fight yet. Still all these months I have been working hard and learning how to improve with each bout. I have to keep my spirits up and I am sure I will beat your arrogant ass." Elizabeth rolls her eyes to show how little she rates Daphne.
Fight night! Elizabeth is out first with her coach Natascha McElhone behind her. Liz waves to the crowd as she looks relaxed. Soon climbing into the ring wearing a baby blue coloured sports bra, matching trunks, shoes and gloves, her hair is braided as she gets her shoulders massaged by her coach.
Here comes Daphne with her coach to her right. She takes a breath before walking down the aisle. She is wearing an orange sports bra, matching trunks, shoes and gloves, hair tied into a ponytail. Climbing into the ring with her coach telling her she has got this. Daphne nods to them as she bounces on her toes.
Brought to the center of the ring by the referee. They both shake their arms to keep them loose as they listen to the referees instructions. Bumping gloves quickly into their opponents set before returning to their corners. The bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1: At the bell both sting their opponents cheeks with jabs, trying to get their right fists into the action with both just missing with them. Daphne leans out the way of a right cross to counter with a straight into the forehead of her foe to knock her head back. Daphne looking to be aggressive with a short left/right hook combo to the cheeks of her opponent.
Elizabeth finding herself being moved around near the ropes. Daphne outworking her as the Dutch girls corner is all smiles. Seeing Daphne landing even some spiteful punches around the chest of the American. Those times though leave her open to a few cross punches by Turner to make her have to reset her guard and work to push back Liz to the outside.
Less then a minute to go; Liz deflects a straight to land one of her own through the mitts of Groeneveld to make her take a step back. A left/right cross now lands on the jaw of Daphne, who looks to stand her ground at the middle of the ring. Both exchanging in close up until the bell rings. A bit of a scowling face off between the fighters return to their stools.
Round 2: Pushing off their stools to resume. Daphne is clearly wanting to keep in the face of Elizabeth. Problem is she eats a left cross on her jaw before an overhand right lands around her temple. The legs of Groeneveld do visibly shake after that shot. Turner driving her back to the ropes with several piston like punches into her face.
Daphne clinches to slow down her foe. Referee steps in to split them up with Elizabeth looking keen to keep at her. A straight lands flush into Daphne's face to snap her head back. Turner banging in more clean shots as Daphne is being beaten back. A CRISP RIGHT HOOK TO THE CHIN SENDS DAPHNE TUMBLING DOWN TO HER RIGHT SIDE!
Crowd roaring as Elizabeth raises her arms in the air and walks to the neutral corner with some swagger to her steps. 1....2....3....4... Daphne rolls over to her back groaning. 5....6....7... She has her eyes shut as her coach shakes their head. 8....9....10 we have an early knockout!
Winner Elizabeth Turner KO Round 2
After: This was a brutal defeat for Daphne as Elizabeth goes over to her and plants her right foot on the chest of the beaten woman. Flexing her arms as not many times in her career can Elizabeth claim to have knocked someone out so quickly.
The referee urging her to leave Daphne alone so she can be checked over. Elizabeth jogs over to her corner after mockingly wiping her feet behind her to show disrespect to Groeneveld. Elizabeth is met with a big hug from Natascha. Who tells her to keep this confidence behind her.
Daphne on the other hand needs help to sit on her stool after being checked over. Getting a drink and pouring some water over her head to wake her up more. Daphne wipes some tears away as this gamble of entering this tournament has failed badly. Not a single win and the beatings she has taken have certainly dented her confidence as she stares at the canvas.
Soon enough Daphne is helped out of the ring. Maybe a break after these gruelling last seven months might be the best for her. Right now Daphne looks a shell of the hopeful prospect that entered the FCBA and this tournament.
Inside the ring someone buzzing is Elizabeth. She has her left arm raised in victory and a beaming smile on her gorgeous barely marked up face. Elizabeth finishes the tournament with a positive record of four wins in her seven fights. Hoping that will be enough to finish the tournament in fourth place.
She leaves the ring with surely more prospects of big fights and if she keeps this momentum behind her, we might see Elizabeth in the running for title bouts. Natascha certainly seems excited for the future as they discuss possible future opponents. |
