Nicola Cavanis vs Neriah Fisher

Before: Neriah’s whirlwind 2023 continues, her fourth fight in as many months as Odds&Ends moves to establish her in the Tiffany elite now that she’s a full-time lightweight. "I don't need to get her respect or try to hurt her - this is a girl I can break down my way, and that's what I’m going to do. Nicola's going to find out right away that she has two basic options: quit or be battered."

Nicola, meanwhile, is desperate to prove she’s more than a heavy-bag for the Euro set, Neriah’s her first American opponent in over a year. "I feel great, I'm very strong bodied and I think I'm the bigger puncher in this fight. Neriah's a quality name, but she's one girl who's made for me: I'm definitely gonna hit my stride in this one!"

Ringposts in sand setup. Neriah in a black bikini with boyshort bottoms, hair in double braids, black gloves. Nicola in a snake-skin bikini, hair loose and wild, white gloves. Both fighters barefoot in the sand.

R1: Neriah sets the tone early getting on top and pressing Nicola hard all around the ring. Springy, sharp, jab, very classy: puts Cavanis on her heels and on the defensive. Rivet-gun right hands taut off the jab—bang/bang impacts up the middle, squirting through Nicola’s mitts as blonde tries to close up her guard. Firm biting slash applied to ribcage: ripping rights and lefts sounding out Cavanis not liking those one bit. Very impressive Fisher first: she’s aggressive; sharp and clinical outside; muscular and rangy closer-in, working her foe’s body and head for a ringing shutout.

R2: Neriah still hitting Nicola hard: ranging in with the jab, then scorching the ribcage as blonde covers up. Cavanis finds a vicious stroke downstairs—keeping the elbow in, she’ll slice a sidearm punch palm-up, then turn it over palm-down as she bites into flesh, ripping at her opponent’s ribs or tummy meat—nasty. Fisher grimacing—firm young body holding up well, but she’s catching hot licks below the breastline, getting backed up. Nicola showing pretty boxing skills to set up her line of attack, but she really commits at medium and close distance—a Grace Park style of lanky-bodied slugging. Neriah showing good toughness, soaking shots well, then coming back at Nicola with combinations late: both fighters stabilizing, showing good compact form as each goes tic-tact-toe up the other’s tanned flanks.

R3: Neriah taking it to Nicola all around the ring. Cavanis now showing her wonderful legs, motoring lithely around the sand, pivoting and keeping her balance—trouble is, Fisher’s just as mobile. Neriah walking Nicola down, jabbing her chest to fix position, then unleashing torrid combinations. Cavanis buffeted upside her head and shoulders, punched into ropes, then assailed to her midsection, Fisher setting a JMD-like work-rate as she hounds her foe all around the apron. Hurt, wobbly butt—Nicola issues the fight’s first clinches—wearily tying up behind Neriah’s head and right elbow, tucking the brunette in close for ref’s breaks

R4: Hot boxing midring, both girls showing wonderful reflexes, terrific form, taut execution in athletic thrust-and-parry. Virtual standstill on the sand, girls darting in behind jabs, hoping to rip combinations—both fading back from pressure, sidestepping, then counter-attacking with vigour. Down the stretch, Nicola catches Neriah a swiping, sidearm right hands across the chin, turning the punch over palm-down on follow through: Fisher’s hurt! Neriah covering up earmuff, tilting forward midring: Nicola threads a ringing left uppercut off the front foot—pinpoint chin-check shaking brunette to her toes. Muscles in Cavanis’s shoulder and back spring into relief as she catches Fisher perfect; German girl stepping away with hard look of satisfaction on pretty face. Bell: Nicola aggressively seeking eye contact, wanting to check on Neriah see how hurt she really is; brunette irritated, trying to avoid eye contact and step around her antagonist.

R5: Cagey stalking circling: both girls mirroring each other’s rangy stances/sliding footwork digging furrows in the sand. Both will throw a stiff jab, but also a slow range-finding jab—rotating torso afterward to mover the head. Both girls trying sneaky-quick right hands off the shoulder—nice piercing cut and thrust from range. Middle minute, Neriah slow-jabbing, then torso-rotating in a supple crouch: Nicola’s trying to time brunette’s head movement. Slow jab Fisher, then a BLISTERING right cross: SHATTERING spank kicks Nicola’s face back—head bouncing off the top rope, before she pitches face-first in the sand. Fisher jogging to neutral corner bright eyed, Cavanis propping on her elbows, drawing her knees under her BUT CAN’T GET OFF HER BUTT! Nicola awake, but numb—KO5 in sudden fashion, Neriah Fisher!

After: Neriah pink-bodied - absorbing some hellacious body blows herself - but it was all part of the plan. "We knew she'd come in big, and sacrifice a bit of stamina to get more oomph on her punches, so the plan was to hang back early - let her spend up her money, then go at her hard once she started mouthbreathing. I touched her in the body to help with the process - everything was designed to wear her out, and she cooperated beautifully.”
