ODDS & ENDS APRIL BEACH EVENT

Before: Both fighters signed into the upcoming Cougar division tournament, both listed as possible finalists. Both fighters came in late to the FCBA, and this could well be their last highlight.

Ringposts in sand setup. Kathryn in a green one-piece, green gloves, hair loose and long. Sarah in a red bandeau and high-waisted bottom bikini, matching gloves, hair up in a topknot. Both fighters barefoot in the sand.

R1: Sarah elbows in, hands up - dipping side to side with short, hacking strokes from either hand, beating Kathryn about head/shoulders. Winnick trying the left uppercut; bending into short, hacking rights to head - both women bouncing hard punches off the other. Fighters typically falling in after exchanging a few blockbusters, Kathryn riding her left hand behind Sarah's head, tugging her in close for ref's break. Down the stretch, Winnick using that left hand head-control technique when Shahi bends into a ripping right across the belly, doubling it into a vicious right uppercut: blonde’s left leg swings out to the side, causing her to stagger backwards a couple of steps, Sarah able to step-in a clubbing hook across chops to steal the round late.

R2: Same bashing give-and-take early - both women getting their backs into brutal, compact power shots from either side. Kathryn changing tack midway through - punching her jab to Sarah's face to prep; taking a little counter-clockwise step; jabbing again to make sure, then dropping in the hot right cross. Shahi getting tagged as she's turning, Winnick able to use angles, get some murderous looks at cheerleader chin - Sarah's legs passing a series of tests, though she's wobbly-butt at bell.

R3: Hammer and tongs slugging at the open: both women trying to establish early dominance, then consolidate from there. Unsustainable pace leads to multiple panting breaks, before cougars are wading back into each other. Sarah gobbles up a torrid right uppercut to chin down the stretch, backs away shaky. Kathryn steps-to, hooking hard to head: Shahi rolls-with to her left, countering via the left uppercut off the left plant-leg...DOWN GOES WINNICK! Well timed shot catches Kathryn mid-step, right foot slides forward, can’t find purchase in the sand, she reels backward, taking a seat near the ropes. Winnick beats the count, blinking to clear her head: Shahi wades in and POURS a beating to her rival. Short shots, Sarah moving in close with hands at her chest, elbows in - dipping on her hips, twisting side to side to hack vicious, smiting blows to Kathryn's head. Winnick beaten from one foot to the other, not answering back, trusting curvy legs to hold her up as SHAHI POUNDS AWAY TO GLORY! Right uppercut rocks Kathryn into ropes deep in swoon, mitts loose at her chest as Sarah belts an insurance hook to chin at bell. Winnick sagging against ropes, out on her feet, Shahi stomps back to corner all angry-butt, ferocious-eyes.

R4: Kathryn hurt, but rallying, pumps a stiff left jab, steps to her right, keeping Sarah at arm's length early. Shahi weaving side to side, mitts-at-mouth...she's looking to crouch-and-lunge forward, hooking hard for Winnick's chin. Kathryn leaning away to evade, then jab-jabbing, managing Sarah’s aggression with slick ring-management.

R5: Sarah weaving her way past Kathryn's jab early, crowding inside, walking her blonde to ropes: Winnick's back on cables, hands pulling down on Shahi's head as women brawl inside. Sarah keeping her head below Kathryn's chin, hands pawing at blonde's wrists, dragging them down, then chopping in short-clout from either side. Winnick laying back on ropes, keeping elbows in, trying to pull down Shahi's head with either hand, then fetch her the short-shrugging uppercut with opposite hand. Bruising, hacking, chopping stuff - Sarah working hard, refusing to give up her position as Kathryn looks for leverage inside. Midway through, Winnick WHACKS left hook to paunch; doubles the left into a jolting left uppercut inside, Shahi rocks back into the open, then slouches forward in earmuff, suddenly stricken! Kathryn free to work now: chopping side-arm right takes Sarah in behind left elbow; left uppercut splits the mitts, picking drowsy face up off her mitts; right uppercut jolts the chin and SARAH PITCHES FORWARD! Shahi's mitts on her face as she jacknifes to sand, spreading out tummy-down, her face still in her gloves. Winick stepping over the wide, bronzed back of her foe en route to neutral corner, doesn't even glance down. That's it, Sarah doesn't move off her tummy - she's stopped KO5 by Kathryn Winnick

After: Kathryn able to ride out an aggressive Shahi’s performance, but will she be able to transform it into a win in the upcoming tournament?
