BEFORE:
"I can't WAIT to get a chance at her," says Vanessa with a shake of the head. "SHE got the break I deserved, and now I'm going to prove who's better!"
"Vanessa's right," says Meg, "About what we're going to do in the ring. We're going to prove who's better. Hint. It's NOT who Vanessa thinks it is."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'Get This Party Started' and here comes the singer of that tune, Canadian beauty Vanessa Morgan!"
McCarthy: "And, HERE'S a shocker. ZERO FCBA wins! ZERO!"
Cassie: "She is, however, an undefeated 4-0 in the BBU..."
McCarthy: "ANY tomato can can win over there!"
Tess: "Which explains why YOU'RE undefeated over there..."
McCarthy: "I'm undefeated over there because I'm the Greatest Fighting Playmate of ALL TIME and those stale crumpets are NO match for me! Oh, and SHUT UP, WALMART!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, and drink in the lovely Vanessa, as she's helped off with the robe to reveal a Maya blue number that's got the crowd buzzing. And, that's 'BAAM' you hear behind us, and here comes the singer of THAT tune, the Peapack Punisher, Meg Donnelly!"
Tess: "Meg threatening the top twenty now, but still the number four flyweight at Front Street, so she wants to keep rolling and get a result tonight."
O'Dell: "Meg into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve, and the crowd liking the lovely Ms. Donnelly in that yellow number she prefers. Ladies about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Meg. Mac?"
McCarthy: "ZERO FCBA wins. Donnelly!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Unanimous in the first, and Morgan getting aggressive early. Brunette stepping to, looking to take the fight to Meg. Donnelly giving a little ground, wants space here to box. Vanessa not wanting to give her any at the moment, crowding, working some body."
Tess: "Meg countering with the feet."
O'Dell: "Sure is. Not going to stand and bang. Instead, she's working the left hand, moving and grooving in there. Morgan still aggressive, still trying to take the fight to the younger woman, but not having a lot of success in the back half of the round. Nice combination, Meg!"
McCarthy: "Landed a solid right hand there."
O'Dell: "Sure did. We're down the stretch now, and it's a close one. Vanessa had the early advantage, but Meg's managed to take control in the second half and it may be just enough. Good combination, Donnelly, and there's the bell. Close, but the blonde grabs the points."
Cassie: "And the early 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Vanessa changing tactics now. She's willing to stay at range, box with, but here and there she's bouncing forward, getting off in combination, forcing the blonde to cover up. Morgan's got something going here. She's getting Donnelly on the back foot and keeping her there..."
Cassie: "Definitely timing her offensive forays well."
O'Dell: "And, that's allowing the brunette to maintain control of the proceedings. Blonde can't get anything going. She's landing here and there, but it's all one-shot stuff. She can't put punches together, because, every time she starts to get going, Vanessa's there with a flurry..."
McCarthy: "Good stuff from this Morgan kid."
O'Dell: "And, as we come down the stretch, she's continuing to pile up points and punishment. Meg isn't hurt, but she's definitely taking the worst of things right now. Final seconds tick away in the second and there's the bell. No doubt about this one. It's Vanessa and wide."
Tess: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Morgan at range, looking to box and then pounce forward, but Meg adjusting now. She's getting that jab on target, holding the older woman with it, then dropping right hands on her. All of a sudden, Donnelly able to get some offense going here, but that's not stopping Vanessa."
McCarthy: "Morgan kid is sticking with the plan, going on offense as often as she can."
O'Dell: "Just not as often as last round. But, when Vanessa gets opportunities, she bounces forward, lets the hands go, scores points in bunches, forcing Meg onto the back foot. It's good, two-way stuff for the first time tonight, with both fighters scoring points in spots."
Tess: "Morgan landing the harder stuff."
O'Dell: "And, she's managed to open up the slightest of leads as we head into the final seconds of a competitive round. GOOD combination for Vanessa there. Meg lands a solid right-hand counter, and there's the bell. Very close, but it's Morgan who'll take the points."
Cassie: "And, Vanessa's back in the lead 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins like the third ended, with the ladies boxing, but, while Meg wants to keep things at range, Vanessa's looking to bounce forward and get off in quick, hard flurries. And, just like round three, both fighters getting some, but not all of what they want..."
McCarthy: "The Morgan kid just needs to keep after this Dancing Hooker. She'll GET her."
O'Dell: "Vanessa pops forward lands a solid combination, backs up Donnelly. Ladies back to range. Meg working the left and WOBBLES MORGAN WITH A RIGHT! Oh, a BLISTERING right hand from Donnelly and Vanessa is HURT! Morgan covering up as the blonde lets the hands go..."
Cassie: "Meg definitely going to want to finish here."
O'Dell: "And, she's working hard to do that. She drives Vanessa back into the ropes and goes to work upstairs. Morgan in a high guard, leaning forward, clinching now. Donnelly shoves off, but there's the bell, and it comes none too soon for the brunette. It's Meg, wide, but Vanessa lives to fight another day."
Tess: "And, we're even at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Donnelly looking to finish as we start the fifth. Morgan still wobbly, and she's staying on defense as a result. Brunette giving ground willingly, keeping the guard high, firing back only in spots while allowing the younger blonde to fight lead. Meg working the jab, setting up punches..."
Tess: "Definitely not getting sloppy."
O'Dell: "She is not, and that comes from experience. She's been here before. Vanessa being steadily backed up, trying to block and roll with, but still taking fire. GOOD right hand from Meg and that HURT Vanessa! Morgan in deep trouble and DOWN SHE GOES after a three-punch combination!"
Cassie: "That last right was NASTY!"
O'Dell: "Meg to a neutral corner. Morgan down on her right side. Count at three. Four. Five. Vanessa rolling to her belly at six. Seven. Eight. Pushing to hands and knees at nine. TEN! It's OVER! Morgan still on all fours as the count passes her by and it's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is 'The Peapack Punisher' Meg Donnelly!"
McCarthy: "Kid has a GLASS chin..."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Meg Donnelly, and, Meg, she had some success against you early..."
Meg (nodding): "Kind of tried some different things on me. I had to adjust to what she was doing. But, I wasn't worried. I've been in the ring a few years now. I can make those adjustments and get a girl out of there. And, that's JUST what I did."
Tess: "So, what's next for you?"
Meg: "All depends on what opportunities come up. I'm ready for anything!"
