BEFORE:
"Last year," says Kylie with a shake of the head, "I got in there with Kara and she caught me. But, Kara's a top contender. This girl is...well. Not as good as me, as she's about to find out."
"Kylie's right," says a hard-eyed Tate. "I'm NOT Kara. I'm Tate. And, I'm about to kick her a**!"
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and the four-sided giant screen lowered over the arena, which means Asylum Beach, with plenty of patio heaters and fire pits functioning, is about to get some use. And 'Good As Hell' by Lizzo you hear, and the lovely Kylie Bunbury is coming onto the sand..."
McCarthy: "YAWN! This tomato can was here LAST year and got blasted out by that overrated Dancing Hooker Del Toro. So, OF COURSE, Weirdo brings her back to puff up the record of another of his no-talents!"
O'Dell: "Kylie into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal that white number we saw last year, and the crowd popping for it again..."
Tess: "She's clearly in excellent shape for this one..."
O'Dell: "And, that's 'Vicious' you hear behind us, and onto the sand comes the singer of that tune, 'The Calgary Crusader', Tate McRae!"
Cassie: "Tate has been working just about everywhere lately, beach, JMDD, welter, lightweight. And, she's showing that she can succeed in all those places..."
O'Dell: "McRae between the ropes and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. She's got the crowd going with that admiral blue number. And, the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Tate. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Typical Dancing Hooker opponent. NO FCBA wins. McRae!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Three straight unanimous panels, and Kylie out to prove them wrong right away. Bunbury setting up at gunnery range and getting her box on with Tate, and that would seem to favor the younger woman, since she's very comfortable on these terms, but that's not how it's going..."
McCarthy: "This is slick stuff from Bunbury."
O'Dell: "Definitely is. She's playing the angles, moving head, hands, and feet, beating the younger woman to punches right now. And, this isn't a quickness issue, it's a slickness issue. Kylie's out boxing Tate, because, for the moment, she's out FOXING the younger fighter."
Tess: "McRae looking a little frustrated. Wonder if the sand is causing her problems."
O'Dell: "Could be. She's trying to locate with that jab and can't do it. Instead, Kylie's the one who's getting shot on target. Just ten seconds left in the opening frame. Nice exchange there and Tate landed a right, her best punch of the fight. There's the bell. Not close. Bunbury."
Cassie: "And Kylie grabs the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Tate slowing things down now. Definitely got a little too aggressive in the last round as Kylie was rolling, but now she's looking to move the feet, kick up sand, play the angles, do all the things Bunbury did to box rings around her in the last frame. Result is good, two-way stuff."
Cassie: "And, lots of crowd-pleasing action."
O'Dell: "No question the work rate is very high, especially for a lightweight bout. Then again, these are two of the most athletic lights in the FCBA, so that's not a huge surprise. Sharp exchange there and another and both fighters got some solid shot on target as this one ranges across the beach."
McCarthy: "Bunbury just needs to keep after the kid. She'll get her."
Tess: "Didn't you just pick McRae?"
McCarthy: "I did and I stand behind it!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Down to the final seconds of a fast-paced second round and not a lot in it at the moment. Both fighters know this thing is close and both are upping the ante late trying to grab the points. There's the bell. Very, very close. But, McRae takes the stanza and evens things at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "More ranged boxing here in the third. Bunbury doubling and tripling up on the jab, following on with hard right hands. She's putting Tate on the defensive in spots. McRae again struggling to get anything going like she did in the first, this time because she's being preempted."
McCarthy: "I'll tell you, this Bunbury kid is impressive."
O'Dell: "Has been so far. Showing a lot of ability to do a lot of different things. Seems very comfortable on the sand. McRae, meanwhile, a little out of sorts, just like in the first. She's having problems dealing with those jabs right now, as Bunbury builds herself a nice lead. GOOD combination from Kylie there..."
Cassie: "People forget that Tate's only 19. She's still got some things to learn in there."
O'Dell: "And, she's getting some lessons taught to her right now by Bunbury, because, like in the first, Kylie's been in charge throughout in this one. Final seconds ticking away in the third. One more good combination from Kylie and there's the bell. Bunbury has it wide."
Tess: "And, she leads 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins at range and now it's Tate making the adjustment. She's moving the feet, kicking up a ton of sand, circling at times, stopping to pop, changing the angles again and again, making Bunbury turn with, reset over and over again. All of a sudden, Tate's grabbed the initiative here..."
Tess: "She's just so athletic..."
O'Dell: "Former dancer and you can see it in the way she moves. If the sand was causing her problems, she's used to it now. NICE combination from Tate that forces Kylie to cover up. McRae lands another, backs up Bunbury. Tate circling, then stepping to, getting off in combination."
McCarthy: "JUST as I predicted..."
O'Dell: "Twenty seconds to go in the fourth. Tate's had the better of it the whole way. McRae bouncing forward, landing a sharp combination. Kylie tying up now, trying to slow this down. Tate shoves her off, works some body for one of the few times tonight, and there's the bell. McRae. Wide."
Cassie: "And that evens things at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth begins with more sand kicking movement from Tate. She's really got it going now, leaving Bunbury the one who's frustrated. McRae a nice combination, slips a rejoinder and gets off again, forcing the older brunette to cover up. The singer is firing on all cylinders at the moment..."
Cassie: "And, this shows how good she can be when she does that. Even at 19 and with fewer than a dozen fights under her belt."
O'Dell: "Tate using that long left now, snapping it in Kylie's face, then stepping in behind it. Bunbury being forced backward. Kylie trying to punch for respect here and DOWN SHE GOES! A right hand from McRae and Bunbury splashes to her back in the sand! What a shot!"
Tess: "That might do it!"
O'Dell: "Tate to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Kylie sits up at six. Seven. Eight. Bunbury to her feet. Ref gives her the mandatory while wiping the sand from her gloves and back...and waves on Tate! McRae quickly across the beach, driving the older woman back to the ropes and letting her have it! Tate HAMMERING away at her rival, ROCKING Kylie with a right hand, WOBBLING her with a left hook and THE REF LEAPS IN! He's seen enough and he waves it off! And your winner by TKO5 is 'The Calgary Crusader', Tate McRae!"
McCarthy: "Lucky!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go across the street to Cassie Scerbo!"
Cassie: "I have our winner, Tate McRae, and, Tate, a little slow start tonight..."
Tate (nodding): "And, that's credit to her. She's very skilled, showed some things we didn't see on video. Had to make some adjustments to deal with those. But, when you've got a corner like I do, you can make those."
Cassie: "So, it's been JMDD, it's been light and welter and now it's the beach. Which way you goin', Tate?"
Tate (laughing): "You'd know that better than I would. I just want to keep getting work. The more things I can do, the better, you know?" |
