Intro: Our first Singapore fighters derby as fitness models Natalie Yeo and Kerstin Ong battle it out, they meet in the Singapore Indoor stadium, both women have not quite found their feet in the FCBA yet, a win tonight though could jump start their career in the right direction.
Both do share one common opponent in the past few months, Hayley Lee has battled both, beating Kerstin in their one bout by referee stoppage in the sixth round, Natalie does hold a victory over Hayley by knockout in six rounds, she also lost by knockout in eight rounds to Hayley in her last fight.
Heading into the bout, both kept to social media to discuss the fight, Natalie posting "to all my fans, I will be back to fight on the 11th November, Kerstin Ong is my opponent, I respect her dedication but she has signed up to be my punch bag, can't wait!" Confidence clear even after her recent defeat.
Kerstin meanwhile replied "I am fighting Natalie Yeo next month, I have known her awhile but didn't think we'd ever share a ring, good luck to Natalie, she will need it as I feel the fittest I ever have" Kerstin laying her marker down with a photo to show her body off before the fight.
Fight night, first out into the stage comes Natalie with her coach, she waves to the fans as they cheer, walking down to the ring with a quick breath to calm any butterflies, Natalie taps her navy blue gloves together, climbing into the ring, Natalie is wearing a a navy blue sports bra with white trim, matching trunks and boots, hair is braided, she paces side to side in her corner.
Here comes former hurdler Kerstin now, she blows kisses with her red gloves, jogging down to the ring with her coach following, she nods to her fans chanting her name, then steps into the ring wearing a red sports bra with blue trim, matching trunks and shoes, hair in a ponytail as she bounces on her toes.
The referee waves the fighters to them at the middle of the ring, jogging together, the fighters lock eyes in a tense stare down, both naturally competitive, the referee soon finishes their instructions, telling the fighters to touch gloves, both do with a nod to each other, returning to their corners, the crowd is cheering as the bell rings to start 10 rounds of bantamweight action.
Round 1: Stabbing jabs into each others faces, it isn't long before Natalie seeks to pound in her hooks, just missing as Kerstin moves back, landing a double jab into the more flat footed Yeo's face, getting clipped with a left cross as both try to get control of the action.
Second minute sees Kerstin start to grab control as she stings the cheeks of Natalie, getting clipped with several power punches, Kerstin drills in a nice jab/straight combo to snap back the head of the her opponent, keeping her on the outside, away from those power punches.
But she can't hold off Natalie for too much longer, a jab landing square into her lips, then a right hook knocks her head to the side, Natalie powers into her, driving Kerstin to the ropes, where she bashes away on the inside, head down as she lands thudding punches, at the bell it's close to call who got the better of the action, the crowd loved it though as they cheer the fighters.
Round 2: Back out the fighters go with both landing stiff jabs, cheeks already getting marked up as neither is exactly holding back with their punches, Natalie steps inside whacking in a left/right hook combo to the ribs of Ong, making her grunt out as she backs up.
As Natalie looks to keep the heat on, a right cross lands into her face to slow her momentum, Kerstin turning the tables as she plants her feet to land a left/right hook up top to the cheeks of Natalie, forcing her to retreat back, Kerstin not rushing in, using her jab to bash back her opponent, moving side to side to not be caught in the firing line.
A missed left cross by Natalie leaves her open to a counter right across her face, Kerstin forces her back to the ropes, Natalie covering up as she finds herself struggling to hold off Ong, soon the round comes to an end with Kerstin taking a round for most people, Natalie banging her gloves together, not hiding her frustration at how she did this round.
Round 3: Kerstin looks to be getting into an early rhythm, slamming a nice jab into the face of Natalie, while she moves up on her toes, Natalie starting to tighten her guard as she looks to cut off the ring, marching forwards flicking out her own jab as the crowd is chanting for both fighters.
Cutting off the ring and deflecting a straight, Natalie rams a straight into the face of Kerstin, then slams in a left hook across her face, Kerstin finding herself muscled into a neutral corner, where she is being beaten by power punches, two uppercuts slice through her guard to knock back her head, forcing her to clinch up.
They are split apart with just over a minute to go, Kerstin is on the back foot, landing a few single punches, problem she has is that Natalie is not giving her much room to breath, pounding in hard shots around the guard, a left hook to the ear of Ong opens her up to an uppercut that sends her against the ropes, needing to clinch up once more, the bell rings after they are split up, stronger round for Natalie, who shows a taste of her power crafted through her years of working out at a high level, Kerstin no slouch herself, but she has to keep her wits about her to win.
Round 4: Coming back out their corners, Kerstin is boxing more to Natalie's left side, trying to stay away from her thunderous right, leaning back when Natalie tries to land a big left hook, instead landing crisp two punch combos to knock back the head of Natalie.
When Natalie does get in closer, Kerstin showing crafty ring generalship by holding onto her right arm, both digging in body shots with their free hand, referee does warn Kerstin about holding, still it is giving her the time to work, stopping Natalie's momentum before it really gears up.
Again though she can't seem to stop Natalie in her tracks, with Natalie ramming home a double jab into her nose, that opens up Kerstin to a hard right hook that turns her head, Natalie drives her back into a neutral corner again, landing thudding shots and shoving back Kerstin when she goes to clinch, the bell rings with both fighters looking fiercely determined as they return to their stools, getting cleaned up as they tap their toes, Kerstin winning the round on some pundits cards, still though a hint of worry in her corner for the power punches coming her way.
Round 5: Taking a quick breath before they come back out, exchanging jab to start, Kerstin tries to step in with a straight, getting caught by a counter right on her chin, that makes her stumble back a step, with a left hook turning her head to the side, Natalie pounding her back towards the ropes, UPPERCUT LANDING TO SEND KERSTIN DOWN TO ALL FOURS AT NATALIE'S FEET!
The crowd goes wild as the Natalie fans celebrate, Kerstin's yelling to get up as Natalie heads to the neutral corner, 1....2....3... Kerstin turns as she grabs the middle rope with her left glove, 4...5...6.. pulling herself so her chin rests on the middle rope, 7...8... Getting up to her feet with help from the ropes, she raises her gloves and assures the referee she can fight on, getting the ok from the referee to continue.
It isn't long though before Natalie has pounced on her, a left/right hook combo sends Kerstin reeling to the ropes, trying to hold onto Natalie just earns her a two handed shove to her chest, before an uppercut blasts her head back, Kerstin leaning against the ropes, TOWEL COMES IN THE RING FROM KERSTIN'S CORNER TEAM, REFEREE ACCEPTS THEIR SURRENDER OF THEIR FIGHTER! WAVING THE FIGHT OFF!
Winner Natalie Ong TKO Round 5
After: Natalie looks to the heavens as she heads to her corner, hugging her coach as she gets her second win of her career, showing she isn't a one hit wonder, while Kerstin behind her falls to her knees, showing what her power punches can do when she lands them, showing we might have a new contender for hardest hitting bantamweight in female celebrity boxing.
Kerstin is helped over to her stool by her coach, admitting she maybe should have stayed down on the knockdown, blinking to clear her vision as she gets a drink of water, her coach consoling her as she is told she did a good job, it just wasn't her night is the simple message, she did have her moments in this fight against Natalie, still she is going home a loser.
While across the ring Natalie is all smiles, hugging her corner crew, waving to the fans from her corner as she has a good chant going from the crowd, looking relieved to win again after a few sore results lately, she thanks her coach for their help.
Once both fighters are ready, they both walk to the middle of the ring for the final result, a respectful handshake between the fighters gets a round of applause from the crowd, Natalie then gets her left hand raised by the referee, she is all smiles as Kerstin simply nods in response, knowing tonight wasn't hers.
The beaten fighter leaves the ring, leaving the ring to Natalie, who poses for the cameras with hands on her hips, showing off her impressive physique, along with a beautiful smile, she soon steps out the ring, excited for her next fight now she has confidence behind her. |
