(Written by Girls Friday/Results by Lookout!)
Intro: First time meeting between Japan's Sayuki Matsumoto and China's Mia Kang, another former BBU champion seeking to be a top fighter in the FCBA in Sayuki, while Mia for the first time in her career is putting wins back to back, one of these beautiful models is going home disappointed from Singapore Indoor Stadium, who will it be?
Both women spoke to Alicia Atout of the FCBA Network in the media area, first to speak was Sayuki, who turned up in a black dress and heels, hands on her hips as she says "I am going to beat Mia tonight, she might think she is a bad ass because she does muay Thai, yet which of us has held gold? She is going to find out why she will never be a champion" staring hard at the camera filming this, as if speaking directly to Mia.
She continues "this is a warning to other fighters in the lightweight division, I have started slowly, but I won't be held off for much longer, you will learn why I was signed by Revolution Boxing" raising her right fist to the camera, showing she isn't just there for the money.
Mia meanwhile stands wearing a blue sports bra, leggings and white trainers, arms folded as she tells Alicia "Sayuki and me have eyed each other up before, this seems the perfect time and place for us to settle our score, fact is she needs to fight me now after hiding from me, when I am done with her, you and the world will see why she hid from me" accusing her opponent of cowardice will certainly add some spice to this contest.
Mia then adds "finally I feel like I am graining traction, I am fighting at a weight I feel comfortable in, though I will fight anyone who challenges me, the thrill of the fight is maybe too much for me at times to ignore for my own good Alicia, well now I am going to prove all my doubters wrong" getting a nod and smile off the interviewer, before Mia heads off to her locker room.
Fighting time, first to come out onto the stage is Sayuki with her coach Miyada Issiki, she jogs down the aisle wearing a blue bikini with matching gloves, clearly both agreeing to slightly different attire to most, maybe wanting to prove a point whose the better woman all round between them, Sayuki's hair is in a ponytail as she steps into the ring, fist bumping Miyada before she starts shadow boxing.
Here comes Mia now with her coach Kelly Hu, she heads down the aisle in a red bikini with white gloves, hair is braided as she looks like she means business, stepping into the ring with her eyes firmly on Sayuki, she paces in her corner shaking her arms to keep them loose.
Coming together at the center of the ring, both women look each other dead in the eye, hands on hips as both proud women show they won't be intimidated by their opponent, the crowd mixed on their favourite, the fighters don't seem to care as a few words are exchanged, then they thud their gloves into their opponents set, jogging back to their corners, ready to start 10 rounds of lightweight action.
Round 1: Coming out stabbing jabs towards their opponents head, each fighter is trying to get their range, before they launch in with their straight punches, evenly fought opening thirty seconds, Mia slams in the first meaningful punches, landing a jab followed by a right hook that turns the head of her opponent, just missing with a follow up left as Sayuki dances back out of range.
Then it's Sayuki's turn to take the fight to Mia, ducking under a left cross, she digs in several body shots, trying to muscle back Mia, who stands her ground as they slug it out on the inside, Sayuki showing her experience to move back slightly to ping in an uppercut that knocks Mia to her heels.
Taking the center of the ring for herself, Matsumoto is mixing up her targets, keeping Mia guessing with feints as the Chinese star is not throwing as much back in return, trying to keep her own guard tight as Sayuki picks away at her, the round ends with Sayuki getting a nod from her coach, while Mia taps her own cheeks, not pleased with how things went as the former BBU lightweight champion showed some of her class there.
Round 2: Resuming around the middle of the ring, Sayuki is targeting the body more of her opponent, landing some thudding punches till she is nudged back, Mia doubling up her jab in response, drilling it into the forehead of the Japanese fighter, with Sayuki moving around up on her toes to not let Mia tee off her on.
After the opening minute, Mia feints with a jab before catching Sayuki flush with a right cross, smacking it right into her face to knock her back two steps, Sayuki certainly didn't see that coming, now she finds herself being battered back by Kang, who plants her feet as she slams in her punches, Sayuki needing to clinch up to slow the momentum of Mia.
Broken up as they resume with Sayuki having the ropes near her back, both exchanging but Mia looks to be on top now, rifling her punches square into the face of her opponent, opening a cut on the bridge of Sayuki's nose, at the bell it's a much better round for Mia, who raises her arms before she goes over to her corner, Sayuki shaking her head, showing her own frustration at being pushed back by Mia.
Round 3: Sayuki is looking to get into Mia's grill early on, bashing away on the inside till she gets pushed back, Mia rifling her punches back into the face of Sayuki, reopening that cut on her nose, Sayuki hissing each time it is hit, being forced back to the outside part of the ring by Kang.
Into the second minute, both fighters trying to enforce their will on the fight, Mia slams a right hook around the ear of Sayuki, causing her to stumble a step to the right, a double jab knocking her towards the ropes as the Sports Illustrated models fans roar on Mia, Sayuki trying to slug her way out of trouble, INSTEAD AN UPPERCUT LANDS FLUSH ON HER CHIN! DOWN GOES SAYUKI TO HER FRONT AS HER GUMSHIELD FLIES OUT!
Referee doesn't need to tell Mia to go to the neutral corner, she is heading there with her arms in the air and a smile, the referee kneels down and doesn't bother counting, SAYUKI IS OUT COLD!
Winner Mia Kang KO Round 3
After: Big scalp taken by Mia here as she claims a former BBU lightweight champion on her résumé, Mia taps her chest with her right glove as her fans cheer her, jogging to her corner with a sheen of sweat on her brow, Mia fist bumps Kelly as she certainly showed she has the power at this weight to land highlight reel knockout punches.
Sayuki is brought around with smelling salts, confused what happened as she is helped to sit up slowly, she shakes her head and the ringside doctor doesn't look too pleased right now, leading to her being helped out of the ring and taken to backstage so she can have more tests in the medical area.
All eyes now on Mia as she gets her gloves taken off, blowing a kiss to the nearest camera to her corner as she has a beaming smile, jogging to the center of the ring, Mia gets her right arm raised in victory, making it official that she is on a roll of wins, posing for the cameras with her arms flexed, she has certainly worked hard to get into the impressive shape she is in now.
She then steps out the ring with Kelly, Mia walks to the back getting pats on her back from some in the front row, nodding to them with big smiles, looking excited for her future in the FCBA after having a rough time to start in the organisation, maybe a future showdown with people like Ming Xi is on the cards for the title of best Chinese fighter right now, the options are opening up for her now. |
