Intro:
On paper, this bout felt very much like a 1 vs. 16 seed despite the random draw field for this Cougar Tournament. Lilly, a Hall-of-Famer and SEVEN time Unified Bantamweight Title holder, had as strong a resume as just about anyone to ever grace the FCBA. A Champion across two decades, Lilly was a heavy favorite to make the Title fight out of her half, if not win the whole damn thing. Still impossibly sculpted at age 43, Lilly turned heads as she made her entrance in a nude-colored bra and bottoms; proudly showing off her chiseled midsection for a bit of intimidation and gamesmanship.

Christina Ricci had every excuse to come into this fight with the mindset of an “also-ran”. With her last win coming in 2021 after officially ‘retiring’ in 2016, no one would have blamed Ricci for giving Lilly something of a walkover. Instead, the diminutive brunette came out looking fiery and in fantastic shape. Clad in a beautifully contrasting matte black spandex bikini set; Ricci brushed through a distracted Lilly as she climbed into the ring and graced her corner.

Fight:
It looks like JV versus Varsity physically, with Lilly completely pouring it on through the first two rounds. The favorite has seen as much work in 2023 as Ricci has in the past seven years, with Christina’s win over Danielle Fishel feeling like a lifetime ago for the pixie brunette. As respectful as she is respected, Lilly takes the fight completely seriously where others might have expected to sleepwalk; punishing Ricci with clobbering hooks and tee-shots to the temple despite the American trying desperately to sink her teeth into the fight. The tempo set by the Hall-of-Famer is just class; too quick for the smaller brunette to wiggle her way into striking position no matter how much she vultured around the ring. Ricci tries to skirt away as best she can, but she keeps finding herself right in the wheelhouse of the taller Lilly who’s freely punching downhill. It’s midway through the second before Ricci finally leaves a dent; scrapping her way off the ropes with a biting belt-shot that ripples the Canadian’s concrete midsection and saves her from a late-round flurry.

It’s starting to look like an exhibition for Lilly as the third, fourth and fifth tick by. Minimal punching pressure from Ricci, and a whole hell of a lot of leather from Evangeline. Ricci’s ability to take a jab is admirable, but she’s yet to truly damage former Champion through half the fight. Lilly corners her smaller prey along the ropes late in the fifth, carnally swiping through flesh as Ricci twists and bends against the post in an effort to bob her head out of the way of incoming traffic. Christina narrowly makes it to her corner on two feet as Lilly looks to put a bow on the evening.

Right back to the riding crop in the sixth for Lilly, who comes out with an electric one-two to the sternum, coiling a savage right hand high above her head when Ricci finally detonates. The balled brunette explodes forward with a twisting combination to the abdomen of Evangeline; springing sharp hooks and stumpy jabs into the Canadian’s navel. Lilly scrunches lower as she’s unexpectedly pumped to her heels, wincing as she’s walked down by the fiery brunette’s belly onslaught. Lilly lashes out with a straight jab, but it sweeps over its mark; leaving her open for a pincer hook to the ribs and subsequent hammer uppercut to the bottom of her chin. Lilly’s skull rocks backwards, listlessly slipping to her backside as Ricci miraculously puts her down! The stunned Canadian quickly scurries to her feet at just a 2-count, lending credence to the notion that she might’ve partially slipped. Slip or not, this was suddenly a fight.

After the unexpected wake-up call, Lilly gets right back on her toes in the seventh; side-swiping Ricci into the ropes just seconds in. Ricci opts to dip and slither her way through Evangeline’s assault, landing a rabbit punch to the midsection just before a brutal missile streaks out of her peripherals and slams against her cheek. Ricci twists to all fours at Evangeline’s heels, slumping to her haunches to collect herself before straightening right back up halfway through the count. As she stands, it’s Ricci who presses; whipping a pair of hooks into the brunette’s belly as Evangeline trots into a half-retreat. Christina pursues, but she’s still visibly shaken; her strides unsteady as she pushes after Lilly and walks right into another crunchy overhand. Ricci buckles, genuflecting to a knee before the official finally jumps in and waves off the dogged American.
