Jennifer Aniston versus Harumi Nemoto

(Results: Lookout!, Words: Revolution Boxing)

Aniston never thought she might become the first boxer in the FCBA to lose a match without ever taking a punch, but here she was, still unhurt but pinned in a neutral corner, all of her attention focused on dodging haymakers.

Floating was easy, but stinging was harder: Harumi's haymakers came in swift succession, allowing no recovery or counterpunch. Four rounds she had spent on the defense, but she was determined to break out in the fifth, ever vigilant for any mistake on Nemoto's part. The woman was a careful one, but human; and all humans err, for to err is human and to not, divine.

And soon she saw it. Harumi put her weight too heavily on her right foot, forcing her into a rolling recovery, leaving her upper left open. An opportune hook would end her.

Jennifer seized the chance, coming forward with a stamp of her foot and lunging with all her weight behind a powerful right hook with which she forged her fame in days of old, but Harumi was ready for her, shifting gracefully to her other foot, letting the hook sail by her, breasts heaving pendulously as she moved, just in time for Jennifer to push off the stamping foot and come back around with another blow.

But Harumi had not gotten this far in the FCBA for naught; and being worth her salt, perhaps she had anticipated Jennifer's moves, or perhaps was simply trained well enough to react. Aniston knew not, but Harumi went down and under as her arms crossed in front of her face, stretched out in their attacks, unable to pull back and defend in time. Crouching and rising with a savage fury, Harumi slammed the first connecting blow of the match. Not quite an uppercut and not quite a jab, it met raucous cheer and applause nonetheless, for the stale stupor that had long dominated was broken at last.

Jennifer’s head snapped back in an arc of spit and blood. Of course. The Dempsey Roll. It should have been obvious, but so consumed was she in her desire to break out that she ignored the signs which were so clearly in her face.

The dam broke from there, and it was all Harumi’s show; for she had the tempo and thus the prerogative to dictate the course of the match. Perhaps the next round would have let Aniston make a comeback, but Nemoto’s dominance was too much, too complete, and the referee called the match with fifteen seconds to go in the fifth round.
