Cougar Tournament Round 1
Katheryn Winnick vs Nicole Scherzinger

BEFORE: Many pundits believe Katheryn Winnick should be considered a dark horse in this tournament while Nicole Scherzinger's high-profile failures leave her as luxury addition to the line-up by all accounts. If anyone thought the Hawaiian stunner still has something left in the tank then Jenny McCarthy of all people rendered the case moot when she knocked out the singer in less than three minutes over a year ago. Nicole still sells tickets but one shouldn't expect too much out of her boxing career at this stage - for better or worse!
Katheryn Winnick wears a red bikini set & white gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a braid. Nicole Scherzinger wears a white bikini set & black gloves. Long black hair tied in a half-up ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Rounds 1 & 2:
Nicole jumps into a hectic slugging pursuit as she truly has nothing to lose reputation-wise anymore but her intended haymaker efforts miss the target if only they actually keep the blonde in mid-range waiting room. Katheryn slips by the brunette's charge and drops several promising counter punches but she doesn't really push on with her response. There's no need to waste energy so early into a tournament format and all the pressure is somehow on Scherzinger who wants to prove a point she's not exactly finished as a serious fighter. The more desperate she is, the least reward she finds as she makes little progress on Winnick and gets blocked off when she hopes to lock her down in close range stance. Katheryn fends off the danger and works the overhand recovery but the contest still lacks the proper grunt overall.
Rounds 3 & 4:
Katheryn gets moving and uses Nicole's face for some bruising target practice during majority of the third round. The Hawaiian stunner uses her dancing prowess to escape the heat but she can't really yield real estate all the time. She tries to swing back at the Canadian foe but fails to find her range and gets duly clobbered back to the ropes where Winnick cleans her up to the body to secure the round on points. More of the same in the fourth, Nicole gets caught out early and spends too much time dancing around on her toes instead of actually punishing the blonde instead. Katheryn enjoys a dominant spell thumping more leather into the singer's face before a vicious hook on the nose almost drops Scherzinger for the count seconds before the bell.
Rounds 5 & 6:
More slugging heroics from the Hawaiian singer but she just can't land that all important series and frequently leaves herself exposed from the inside. Katheryn misses on the uppercut put away in the fifth and pays a small price as one of Nicole's overhands cuts her up below the left eye but then a hard left/right finds the brunette's temples and flushes her into mid-range retreat. The aggressive pounce picks up in the sixth as Winnick loses her patience and issues a slugging challenge to finally prove Scherzinger is a washed-up operator for lack of a better word. The Hawaiian singer still accepts the high-risk, high-reward opportunity but gets beaten for a brutal hook on the nose that freezes her long enough for Katheryn to SMOKE her with a left/right follow up on the chin. Ugh! Nicole couldn't even raise her gloves in time and she DROPS TO HER BACK in dead meat fashion moments later!!! That should do it... no response from the singer during a slow-ish count so Katheryn Winnick moves into the quarter-finals with a fine KO6 triumph!!!
AFTER: The alleged tournament dark horse rises while Nicole might truly be done even as gatekeeper attraction. Do they award Hawaiian State Championship in women's boxing? Might be the only chance Nicole actually wins something while she's fallen to #158 in Boxing World Online rankings. The only way is... down?
