Natalie Dormer vs Anya Taylor-Joy
(Writing: LMW / Results: Lookout!)
Natalie Dormer (41, 5’6, 15-16-1 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)
Anya Taylor-Joy (26, 5’7, 20-6 FCBA, League of Mighty Women)
Pre-Fight: We are at the Agganis Arena in Boston for an interstable fight between League of Mighty Women’s Natalie Dormer and Anya Taylor-Joy. It will be the first time two LMW members fight each other as the usually close-knit stable showed signs of internal trouble when Natalie publicly voiced her discontent with her stable and her stablemate Anya. Since it became public, LMW management decided to give Natalie a chance to prove herself and settle her differences with Anya in the ring, so now Natalie will be looking to do just that. As for Anya, she was taken aback by her stablemate’s remarks, so she will be looking to prove her wrong.
At the pre-fight press conference Natalie takes the stage first as she reiterates her issues with her stable and Anya. “I already explained my issues, but let me give you a reminder. I was the most experienced fighter in LMW’s roster at the time the stable was founded, so clearly I should have been their locker room leader and their most prized fighter, but they started to neglect me as they focused their attention on Lily (James) and Anya. Now, at least Lily made something out of the attention she was getting and became the champion, but what did Anya do!? Nothing! She stagnated once she got to face elite competition and she is still getting the same level of attention and opportunities. She is obsessed about dealing with bullies, but she acts like them herself. She is just a spoiled brat, who is enabled by getting her way within the stable! But, I will teach her to respect me and make my stable to pay the attention that I deserve to me and if not, well I have better opportunities anyway!” She says those last words with her famous smirk on her face.
Anya shakes her head with a bitter smile on her face before answering her stablemate. “You say you should be the locker room leader, but you aren’t even around anymore. You spend more time with your hosting gig than you do training with us. You are quick to make assumptions about me, but you don’t know what I have been through after my defeats, you weren’t there to provide any support. I had some setbacks, but I’m still improving and I deserve the support and attention I’m getting. What have you done to deserve any attention? You defeated your old rivals thanks to LMW, which you should be thankful to our stable for and other than that you haven’t defeated any serious opponents. You are just a whiny, old bully and it is time I deal with you!” Natalie clearly didn’t like being called old and whiny as she lunges toward Anya and grabs her hair before Anya can get up. Natalie uses her advantageous position to pull Anya’s hair and push her head down, not letting her stand up from her chair as Anya tries desperately to get Natalie off her. It takes both LMW staff and event security to separate the two before they can cause any serious damage and the press conference comes to an abrupt end.
After the press conference, one of the reporters asks how Summer (Glau) is feeling about coaching Natalie, who questioned her coaching capabilities, in the fight against Anya, who also did the same last year. She answers “I have been assigned to Natalie for this fight and I’m just trying to do my job well. Of course I would prefer having a better relationship with the fighters I’m working with and that we solve our issues privately within our stable, but it is what it is. I just hope that they can keep it clean and leave their problems in the ring after the fight.”
It is fight night and Natalie enters the arena first with her coach Summer trailing behind her. She walks towards the ring with that smirk on her face as she ignores the mixed reaction of the crowd. Once inside the ring, Summer tries to give some instructions to her, but Natalie doesn’t seem to be paying much attention to her.
She is wearing a blue sports bra and matching trunks, black gloves and boots, while her hair is tied into a ponytail.
Next comes Anya accompanied by her coach Gillian Anderson. She takes a moment to wave to the fans cheering for her, but otherwise she looks focused as she makes her way to the ring. She locks eyes with her opponent/stablemate as she enters the ring.
She is wearing a white sports bra and matching trunks, pink gloves and boots, while her hair is also tied into a ponytail.
Both fighters come to the center of the ring to receive the final instructions from the referee and then neither fighter goes for the touch of gloves as they give each other an icy stare. They step back to their respective corners and we are now ready for 10 rounds of bantamweight action!
Fight: Round 1: Both fighters are being cautious at the beginning of the fight as they know each other well from their training and sparring sessions. Anya is trying to establish her range, using her reach advantage to land some one-two combos, but Natalie is stepping back in time and not pushing forward yet to stay out of her stablemate’s reach. After a lazy jab by Anya, Natalie rushes in with a jab to the abs and a hook to the ribs, then she quickly clinches with her opponent. They both throw a few body shots from the clinch, but right before the referee breaks them up, Natalie hits a couple of rabbit punches as well, which earns her a warning from the referee. Anya looks pissed after those illegal punches, so she starts to attack recklessly when they are separated. It is probably what Natalie wanted though as she avoids those wild swings and finds openings to land more body shots.
Anya looks frustrated, while Natalie looks smug as the opening round comes to a close. Natalie knew how to anger Anya quickly and make her abandon her game plan, so she ended up winning the round easily. Still, Summer tells her to keep it clean during the break. Meanwhile, Gillian tries to calm Anya down and tells her to stick to the game plan.
Round 2: Anya listens to her coach’s instructions as slows the pace down, stays patient and tries to tag Natalie from the range with short combinations. She might not be hitting lots of clean shots, but she is testing Natalie’s defenses as well as keeping her at bay for the majority of the round. They end up having a few short exchanges from inside when Natalie steps in, but this time Anya also holds her own as she lands some shovel hooks to her opponent’s abs, while receiving some punishment to her ribs. Towards the end of the round, Anya scores with a stiff jab-straight combination to the face, which drives Natalie back to the ropes. Anya takes advantage of the situation with a couple of hooks up top that sways Natalie left and right, but her advantage is short-lived as Natalie bounces from the ropes and hugs Anya, trapping her arms. As they are separated, Natalie lands a couple of kidney shots and the referee tells her that this is the last warning.
There isn’t much left on the clock and Anya is slowed down by the kidney shots, so the round ends without any further action. Anya wins it narrowly, but she is frustrated once again by Natalie’s fouls. During the break, both coaches try to talk some sense into their fighters, so that things won’t get out of hand.
Round 3: Natalie makes a more aggressive start to the third round as she tries to get inside, but Anya keeps stopping her with one-two combinations. Anya ends up turning her opponent’s aggression to her own advantage in the first minute as she keeps scoring with clean punches. Natalie finally gets frustrated and steps in with some wild swings. Anya avoids them, but she needs to step back and ends up backing into the ropes. Not willing to let her opponent escape, Natalie clinches with her stablemate and starts landing body shots from the clinch while constantly pushing Anya back to the ropes. Then she goes for two more shots to the kidney, which drops Anya to her knees, groaning in pain. Of course there is no count as Anya is down because of a foul, so she gets some time to recover, while the referee takes Natalie to the center of the ring and instructs the judges to deduct a point from Natalie. Anya tells the referee that she is ready to continue, so the action restarts.
Anya lands a few single punches for the remainder of the round, but she clearly struggles as Natalie takes control and punishes her opponent’s body until the bell. Natalie would have won the round as she controlled the action later in the round, but it ended up being a draw as she received a point deduction. So, the score is still tied after three rounds. Summer is clearly shocked by her fighter’s actions, so she tries to reason with her, but Natalie dismisses her, telling her that she is willing to do anything necessary to win this fight.
Round 4: Anya still isn’t moving well at the start of the fourth round as she is clearly feeling the effects of those kidney shots. Natalie takes advantage and cuts angles to get inside, eating a few jabs on her way in, but there is not enough power behind them to stop her approach. Once inside, Natalie lands hooks to the ribs and straights to the abs. Anya blocks some of the shots, but her limited movement makes it hard to defend herself well. She ends up clinching with her opponent. Natalie throws a few body shots from the clinch, but having received a point deduction already, she is now being careful not to foul and get a harsher penalty.
The cycle of Natalie getting inside and punishing Anya’s body, and then Anya clinching to slow her opponent down continues for the rest of the round. Natalie wins the round after a dominant display and takes the lead on the scorecards. Ice packs are applied to Anya’s body during the break as her body starts to get marked up by Natalie’s body shots.
Round 5: Anya seems to have recovered from the kidney shots as she is moving better at the start of the fifth round. She doubles up on her jab to repel Natalie when she gets too close and otherwise Anya depends on her footwork to keep her distance from her opponent. Natalie occasionally gets inside, but has to eat a stiff double jab-straight combo on her way in. Once inside she lands a few shovel hooks to the body, but then Anya gets out without sustaining any serious damage. Frustrated with the lack of action, Natalie starts taking more risks towards the end of the round. It ends up working in Anya’s favor though, as she lands more counter punches as Natalie gives more openings and she also defends well, which further frustrates the older LMW member. Anya takes a narrow win in this round to tie the score once again.
Round 6: A similar start to the sixth round as Anya moves around, keeps her distance and tags Natalie with short combinations from range. Natalie answers with single punches, but she clearly wants to get inside and force longer exchanges. Anya denies her that opportunity as she seems to have regained her confidence and found her rhythm getting in and out of range to land short combinations. She controls the action in the first two minutes as she consistently finds the marks with those combos and continues to frustrate her opponent.
Within the last minute of the round, Natalie finally finds the right timing as Anya steps in for a one-two combo, so she ducks and steps in as well with an overhand that lands cleanly. Anya is stunned by it and Natalie uses this opportunity to land a nasty hook to the chin that drives her opponent back and she is a bit unsteady on her feet. A jab-straight combo by Natalie backs Anya to the ropes and getting what she wanted, Natalie goes off with a barrage of body shots. Anya closes up well though as she goes into damage control mode in the final seconds of the round. She survives it as the bell rings, but Natalie steals the round with that late flurry and swings the momentum in her favor once again.
Round 7: Anya starts the seventh round with a defensive approach after getting caught by a nasty punch in the previous round. It is Natalie, who is pushing the pace now as she looks for that big knockout punch. She tries to go for another overhand, which worked well for her in the previous round, but Anya is now on the lookout for it and avoids these attempts by stepping back in time. Then she counters quickly with a double jab, but doesn’t overcommit herself. While Anya plays it safe, Natalie is taking even more risks as she is still looking for that knockout punch. She goes for a wild swing, but Anya side steps and lands a counter hook to the older fighter’s jaw. Natalie keeps forcing the issue with a couple more wild swings, but Anya ducks under them and lands an uppercut to the abs followed by two hooks to the ribs. Natalie starts backing off as her quest for the knockout punch puts her in a bad place. Now Anya is looking for the finish, but she is staying patient. She follows Natalie and keeps landing the jab-straight combo consistently in her opponent’s face. Natalie is starting to get groggy and her movement gets sluggish, so Anya steps in with a lead uppercut to the chin followed by a massive right hook to the chin. Natalie stumbles as she takes a step back and Anya capitalizes with a left hook. Looks like Natalie is going down, but Anya decides to make sure that she does as she lands a cross with a downward trajectory as her opponent falls to the mat on her back! Anya takes a good look at her downed stablemate before the referee urges her to get to the neutral corner. As she walks over there, the referee begins the count! 1…2…3… Natalie lies on the canvas, moaning with her eyes closed 4…5…6… she raises her head off the mat and tries to sit up, but ends up lying back down 7…8… after another failed try, she spits her gum shield and shakes her head, looking disappointed 9…10! No more attempts to get up as the count passes her by! It is all over!
Official Result: Winner via KO in round 7, Anya Taylor-Joy!
Post-Fight: Anya walks over to Natalie, who is still down on her back. Before anything happens, both Gillian and Summer enter the ring to make sure that things don’t get worse with a post-fight interaction. Anya opens her arms and shrugs with an overly innocent look on her face, saying that she is just checking on her stablemate and wasn’t going to do anything else. She offers a fist bump as Summer helps Natalie back to her feet, but Natalie first pushes her coach away and then swats away Anya’s gloved hand, telling her “F*** off you spoiled bytch!” Then she leaves the ring on her own, a bit unsteady on her feet but not willing to accept any help. The medical staff follows her to make sure that she is alright and do a quick check up once she is backstage. Back inside the ring, Gillian checks if Summer is alright and they are soon joined by Anya for a group hug. It looks like Anya and Summer are burying the hatchet after going through this ordeal of dealing with an unruly stablemate.
At the center of the ring, Anya gets her hand raised by the referee and then Sharon Horgan enters the ring and hugs her fighter to congratulate her. LMW’s executive director tells Anya to join her coaches, then she takes the microphone and addresses the crowd. “Congratulations to Anya for winning this fight even after getting fouled several times. Unfortunately, I had to cut the celebrations short as I have an important announcement to make. Natalie voiced her concerns publicly about her career with us and her problems with her stablemate. So we gave her a chance to prove herself, but she only proved that she doesn’t belong here anymore. Natalie’s behavior before, during, and after the fight is not acceptable for a LMW fighter. We also heard a rumor that she has already agreed to sign with the Queens of Absolution. While we are not happy with her recent actions, we would still like to thank Natalie for her time with us. That being said, it is clear that her future won’t be with us. We are terminating her contract and releasing her from LMW, effective immediately.”
With that the interstable fight comes to a shocking end as one of the LMW fighters, Natalie Dormer, is no longer a member of the stable, even though it wasn’t the purpose or the stipulation of the fight. We will surely hear more about Natalie’s future soon.
