SIX DEBUTS IN SEARCH OF AN ASYLUM: A NEW BEGINNING

BEFORE:

"This is a big opportunity for me," says Delilah with a lovely smile. "I've got a bright future in the FCBA, and it starts tonight."

"Delilah is about to get a rude awakening," says a hard-eyed Olivia. "And, by that, I mean, when her corner crew wakes her up from the sand nap she's about to take."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and the four-sided giant screen lowered over the arena, which means Asylum Beach, with plenty of patio heaters and fire pits functioning, is about to get some use. And, that's 'The Look' by Roxette, and here comes a young lady who definitely has it, model Delilah Hamlin!"

McCarthy: "Who ALSO has NO FCBA wins!"

Cassie: "Every YEAR we go through this. Every year..."

O'Dell (sighing): "Hamlin into the ring and helped off with the robe. And, the crowd loving the brunette beauty in that flint colored number she's wearing..."

McCarthy: "Wouldn't SNIFF a 'Playboy' centerfold..."

O'Dell: "And, that's 'Good 4 U' booming through the arena, and here comes the singer of that tune, 'The Murrieta Mauler', Olivia Rodrigo!"

McCarthy: "I swear, Weirdo just draws these nicknames out of his pointy hat..."

Tess: "Olivia had a big first year at Front Street, and she's definitely looking like she wants to keep that going tonight..."

O'Dell: "All business on the way down the aisle and into the ring. She's helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve and the crowd liking the leggy brunette in that Persian blue number she's wearing. Ladies about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Olivia. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Again, NO FCBA wins. Rodrigo!"

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

O'Dell: "Unanimous again. Let's see if the ladies are right. Brunettes getting right to work, and Hamlin setting up at gunnery range, wants to use that length. She's a tall bantam at 5'7" and has some reach on Olivia. Rodrigo, though, not sweating it, angling, getting off in combination."

Cassie: "Just some really slick stuff from Olivia right now."

O'Dell: "No question about that. She's got the geometry down and is able to get to spots and get off. Rodrigo so active that she's suppressing Delilah quite a bit. Hamlin spending most of her time covering up and isn't getting anything done offensively, all while Olivia piles up points..."

McCarthy: "Hamlin kid is like a STATUE! MOVE, kid!"

O'Dell: "Delilah maybe having issues moving on that sand. Her only motion right now is BACKWARD motion, as Rodrigo lands another combination and another! Olivia's got it all going as we roll into the final seconds of the opening stanza. GOOD right from Rodrigo and there's the bell. Not close at all. Olivia gets the points."

Tess: "And the 10-9 lead."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Hamlin taking some advice from Mac here, she's MOVING to start the second, and the direction is FORWARD. She's walking in behind that jab, forcing Olivia back. Rodrigo being forced out of her stance here, as Delilah is able to land that left and follow on with rights."

Cassie: "Olivia needs to get off square."

O'Dell: "Sure does, but, right now, that's not happening. All of a sudden, the geometry isn't working for the Front Streeter. She's getting backed up and touched up as the tyro gets things rolling all of a sudden, plowing forward through the sand. GOOD right from Delilah backs the younger woman up again and again..."

Tess: "Hamlin landing some solid shot here."

O'Dell: "Definitely is. Olivia completely out of sorts at the moment, can't get anything going. Hamlin a good combination, forces Rodrigo back again. Olivia backed to the ropes now, and Delilah going body. Rodrigo not hurt, but she's getting pasted right to the bell. Not close. Hamlin."

McCarthy: "And, we're even at 19."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Hamlin continuing to press forward. Rodrigo using the feet more now, kicking up some sand. She's getting off square, playing the angles, firing back in counter, while still allowing Delilah to fight lead. Hamlin determined to do that, determined to use the length and bring her power to bear..."

McCarthy: "I've got to admit, this kid is impressing me. She's got guts, at least."

O'Dell: "No question about that. Delilah definitely pressing the issue here, something you wouldn't expect to see from a tyro against a fighter like Olivia, who, while not exactly a veteran, has GOBS more FCBA experience than Hamlin. SHARP exchange there, and both fighters landed a good right hand."

Tess: "Olivia handling the aggression much better than the last round...but, Delilah still effective."

O'Dell: "Both fighters are, and that's why there's not much in it as we roll through the final fifteen seconds of the stanza. Nice trade there, with Hamlin getting the better of it and ANOTHER and Olivia got the better of that one. Five seconds. Good right Delilah, and there's the bell. Very close. Hamlin."

Cassie: "And Delilah pulls into a 29-28 lead."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Same again in the fourth. Hamlin pushing forward, Olivia giving ground here and there, moving laterally, working mostly in the counter. Both fighters scoring points on these terms, though this isn't exactly what Olivia, who likes to box at range, wants to do here..."

Cassie: "But, Rodrigo can do a lot of different things in there..."

O'Dell: "And, she's showing that right now. GOOD right hand from Delilah and OLIVIA ROCKS HER WITH A COUNTER! Rodrigo a NASTY right hand and Delilah is all WOBBLY BUTT. Olivia going all in now, flurry after flurry and DOWN GOES DELILAH! Hamlin SPLASHES to her back in the sand after a FIVE-PUNCH combination from Rodrigo!"

Tess: "And, that's going to be it..."

O'Dell: "Rodrigo across the beach to a neutral corner. Hamlin down on her back in the Maltese cross position, eyes closed as the referee counts down on her. Three. Four. Five. No movement at all from Delilah. Six. Seven. This is academic. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! Hamlin is down and OUT and it's OVER, and your winner by KO4 is 'The Murrieta Mauler', Olivia Rodrigo!"

McCarthy: "Lucky punch!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go across the street to the beach and Cassie Scerbo!"

Cassie: "I have our winner, Olivia Rodrigo, and, O-Rod, she got very aggressive with you..."

Olivia (nodding): "Kind of figured she might try that. She's not out-boxing me, so she had to try something. Took me a minute to figure how to deal with it, but, when I got it down, I got HER out."

Cassie: "So, what do you think about this beach stuff?"

Olivia (smiling): "I'm up for it. Whatever you and Wiz want me to do, I'm up for it. Let's have a BIG 2023!"
