BEFORE: Gemma Atkinson put on a brave performance for the English welterweight title earlier this season and the Beevers entourage think she should have no trouble in dispatching the Italian power-hitter Elisabetta Gregoraci who has stumbled on some hard times in recent fights. Elisabetta can still knock anyone out but defense is her liability which most of the division has exposed over the years already.
Gemma Atkinson wears a white bikini set & red gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a half-up ponytail. Elisabetta Gregoraci wears a turquoise bikini set & white gloves. Long black hair tied in a sleek ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Round 1:
Elisabetta doesn't waste too much time in sending a proper slugging attack and Gemma isn't quite a speed demon across the canvas so she soaks up the early pressure before blasting the Italian model up the middle which triggers a hectic back & forth affair in the center of the ring. BBU TV's Denise van Outen didn't expect anything different from these two and Elisabetta manages to give the English rival a couple of visible lumps inside the first minute already which makes Beevers coach Denise Lewis verbally upset in the corner. More hits crash into Gemma's face thereafter but she refuses to yield an inch and tries to work something to the brunette's body before a vicious uppercut double slams her on the chin and wobbles onto the ropes. Ugh! Gregoraci wants to pile on more juice but the clock expires before she can add more damage on the somewhat shaky looking blonde.
Round 2:
Another powerful drive from the Italian woman leaves Gemma vulnerable but a missed put away hook allows her to work the overhand response and she matches the brunette for sheer intensity value before blasting her on the mouth to cause instant wobble. Woof. Elisabetta refuses to back off and wants to connect with more head shots yet Atkinson beats her to the punch and begins to pile on the heavy hits herself; she rocks Gregoraci's head back & forth and stuns her with a well-measure switch on the solar plexus. Elisabetta gets stuffed out of breath for a moment and Gemma makes her pay for it as she tears a small gash under the left eye before adding a right hook on the ear that DROPS THE ITALIAN ONTO HER KNEES almost out of nowhere. Big punch from Gemma who struts back to her corner alas the older model is far from finished and makes an angry recovery at seven. Maybe she only slipped here after all? More heavy slugging follows but Elisabetta still comes away worse to wear as Gemma shuts her down on the turnbuckle and knocks her head back until the referee pulls her away at the bell.
Round 3:
Gemma abandons the head-hunting tactics and drills the Italian's midsection straight away; Elisabetta can't quite find her range in this position and tries to clinch the English foe but gets outmuscled out of the stalemate and takes a booming right hook on the chin that slumps her into quiet spasms; Gemma doesn't wait for the next opportunity and flies in with a hard left that half-spins Gregoraci onto the ropes where she sinks on her knees in a critical moment so that Atkinson has a free shot to deliver the slam dunk punch... which she does moments later!!! A big right hook slams Elisabetta on the temple and DROPS HER DOWN IN THE CORNER - this time she can't overcome the knockdown daze and slumps into even louder spasms while the merciless count duly passes her by few seconds later. KO3 Gemma Atkinson!!!
AFTER: That was a much needed victory for Gemma who has endured her stare of underwhelming results over the years but maybe she can still improve her record beyond mere gatekeeper status. Meanwhile this is where Elisabetta seems to be heading, her punching resistance has evaporated and given her age, she can only drop lower down the ladder.
